Deery Joins Nelson Mullins Product Liability Practice
Shawn Boyd Deery has joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in its Columbia office and will practice in the product liability area.

A native of Goose Creek, he formerly served as a law clerk to the Honorable H. Bruce Williams, associate judge for the S.C. Court of Appeals. Before that he served as a staff attorney to the S.C. Court of Appeals and as a research assistant to Professor F. Patrick Hubbard at the University of South Carolina School of Law. He also served in the U.S. Air Force as a crash fire rescueman from 1991-1997.

Admitted to the S.C. Bar, he is a co-author of “Do Owners Have a Fair Chance of Prevailing Under the Ad Hoc Regulatory Takings Test of Penn Central Transportation Company?”

Mr. Deery earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina in 2003, where he was associate student works editor of South Carolina Law Review. He received the Order of the Coif, the Order of Wig and Robe, and CALI (American Jurisprudence) awards in Torts I, Torts II, Civil Procedure I and Criminal Procedure. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, summa cum laude, and a minor in Legal Studies in May 2000 from Clemson University.

Berman Named a Fellow of Leadership Greater Chicago
Jenner & Block Partner Debbie L. Berman was recently named a 2007 Fellow of Leadership Greater Chicago, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping “Chicago’s most promising leaders” to develop community awareness among leaders in the Chicago metropolitan area.

As a fellow, Ms. Berman will join other corporate and civic leaders in a 10-month study of the challenges facing Chicago-area communities. The 36-member class will identify issues in Chicago’s economy, education, race and ethnic relations, housing, crime and violence, and healthcare. They will also meet with an array of Chicagoland leaders, including the mayor, other government officials, corporate CEOs and civic leaders.

According to LGC, fellows are selected for their “demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to civic and community affairs,” and because they “care about their communities and hope to make a difference.”

Ms. Berman is Co-Chair of the Firm’s Trade Secrets and Unfair Competition Practice. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors of Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago. She is also an active member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, EZRA Multi-Service Center, and Brandeis University Alumni Admissions Council. Recently, Ms. Berman was named to the prestigious Crain’s Chicago Business “40 Under 40” list.

Chadbourne Advises Boeing in 787 Dreamliner Joint Venture for Titanium Production
Chadbourne & Parke LLP has acted for The Boeing Company in its US$60 million joint venture with Open Joint Stock Company ""Corporation VSMPO-Avisma"", the world's largest titanium producer.

The Framework Agreement which was signed on August 11, 2006 contemplates establishing a Russian joint stock company to undertake machining of titanium forgings that are manufactured by VSMPO for Boeing or Boeing's subcontractors located in Verkhnaya Salda, Sverdlovsk Region, Russia.

Titanium is a key component of the Boeing 787 and the titanium produced by the joint venture will be used in the jetliner production and assembly process.

Chadbourne is advising Boeing in all aspects of this joint venture including the establishment of the company and other related matters.

The Chadbourne team was led by Moscow office Managing Partner Laura M. Brank, supported by associates Olga Watson and Alexander Volnov.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the next generation jetliner being produced by Boeing. As of the end of June 2006, the company has received a total of 403 orders and commitments for the planes.

The Dreamliner is designed to use 20% less fuel than today's planes of comparable size.

Los Angeles Times Names Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP Partner Bob Hertzberg Among Southern California's Most Influential People
The Los Angeles Times has published a list of the 100 most influential people in Southern California and has named Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP Partner Bob Hertzberg among these distinguished individuals, known as ""The West 100.""

The Los Angeles Times reviewed over 350 names in creating this list and narrowed the field to 100 based on the individual's, "".having influence over the way we live as Southern Californians.""

Mr. Hertzberg is a partner in the Government and Global Trade Group of Mayer, Brown's Los Angeles office. Prior to working at the firm, he was Speaker of the California State Assembly. The Los Angeles Times praised him for connections and ability to work with both members of both the left and the right side of California Politics and described him as a "".discreet advisor on civic issues such as economic development, transportation and term limits.

Friedman Comments on Constitutionality of Early Voting
Dan Friedman, Special Counsel in the Litigation Department in the Baltimore office, was quoted in this article about Circuit Court Judge Ronald Silkworth's ruling that it is illegal to open Maryland polling stations a week before Election Day, saying that the constitution firmly establishes the timing of elections.

""I think there is some flexibility in the constitution,"" Mr Friedman, who wrote The Maryland State Constitution: A Reference Guide and teaches constitutional law at University of Maryland School of Law, said. ""The Court of Appeals has said the constitution isn't meant to be a straitjacket.

Longo Appointed Co-Chair of ABA Litigation Section Class Actions and Derivative Suits Committee
O’Melveny partner Amy Longo has been appointed as one of the Co-Chairs of the Class Actions and Derivative Suits Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation. The Committee, situated within Division IV - Procedural, of the Litigation Section, includes subcommittees ranging from antitrust and consumer law to employment, mass torts and securities class actions. Longo will hold the position for the 2006-2007 leadership year commencing August 1, 2006, and will have responsibilities for, among other areas, the committee's programming, membership, communications, CLEs, and policy proposals.
