MOTLEY RICE ATTORNEYS INCREASE PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT IN SOUTH CAROLINA
Motley Rice LLC, one of the nation's largest plaintiffs' litigation firms, today announced that attorneys James W. Ledlie and Marlon Kimpson have taken leadership positions in two prominent South Carolina organizations. Ledlie was recently appointed to the 2006-2007 South Carolina Bar Torts Insurance Practice Council. Kimpson will be joining the University of South Carolina Board of Visitors.

The South Carolina Bar, which has a membership of more than 11,500 lawyers, is dedicated to advancing justice, professionalism and understanding of the law. The Torts and Insurance Practice Section maintains a strong interest in products liability, workers' compensation, wrongful death and survivor actions, automobile law, insurance law and medical and legal malpractice and damages.

Ledlie began work with Motley Rice attorneys in 1998 and currently focuses his efforts within the firm's Occupational Disease and Toxic Tort, Securities and Consumer Fraud and Environmental Practice Groups. He graduated with a B.A. from Wofford College and earned a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He is licensed to practice in the state of South Carolina. He currently serves as a member of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Board of Governors. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the American Association of Justice and the United States Supreme Court Historical Society

Attorney Marlon Kimpson has been appointed by President Andrew Sorenson to serve a two-year term as a presidential appointee to the University of South Carolina Board of Visitors. The Board consists of prestigious USC alumni and serves to assist the Board of Trustees with the overall advancement of the University.

Kimpson began working with Motley Rice attorneys in 2000. He was recognized in 2005 when named one of Charleston Business Journal's 40 Under 40 award recipients. He currently serves as President of the Charleston Black Lawyers Association and is on the Palmetto Board of Directors. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the National Bar Association. He is a Member of Congressman James and Emily Clyburn Endowment Fund Committee and the Carolina Youth Development Center as well as on the Board of Directors for the New U.S.C. Law School Building Fund Committee. He served as Chairman of the South Carolina Election Commission from 2001 to 2003. Kimpson received a BA degree from Morehouse College and a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Locke Reynolds Partner Receives Award from the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel
Alan S. Brown was named the first recipient of the Joseph R. Olshan Award at the Annual Meeting of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC). The Olshan Award is given in honor of the FDCC’s long-time executive director and awarded to a leader in the organization who displays the most outstanding organizational skills and dedication to the FDCC.

The FDCC is an international organization of attorneys and corporate involved in the defense of claims and litigation and the advancement of civil justice. Mr. Brown has served on the FDCC’s board of directors for six years.

Mr. Brown’s practice focuses on business, contract and complex litigation and general business counseling. He has been a partner of Locke Reynolds since 1985. Mr. Brown is chair of the firm’s Business Services Group, chair of its Business Litigation Group, and co-chair of its Litigation Group.

Kronish Lieb Launches New Practice – The Structured Real Estate Investments Group
Kronish Lieb Weiner & Hellman LLP today announced the formation of a new practice, the Structured Real Estate Investments Group. Corporate partner Chet F. Lipton and Real Estate partner Thomas D. O'Connor will serve as Co-chairs of the Group. The seven-partner practice will focus on structured transactions involving real estate and related assets and draw upon the resources of specialists in the Firm's real estate, corporate, tax and bankruptcy groups.

The Group will provide clients with cross-disciplinary skills for real estate transactions involving joint ventures, preferred equity investments, mezzanine financings, asset collateralizations and securitizations, fund formation, syndications and structured asset acquisitions and dispositions.

""In many other firms, structured real estate transactions are addressed on an ad hoc basis by a real estate group, which must then seek input from other practice groups,"" said Mr. Lipton. ""At Kronish Lieb, the Structured Real Estate Investments Group is fully integrated and is dedicated to addressing all aspects of real estate transactions spanning multiple practice areas.""

The Group will assist Kronish clients in securing financing, gaining access to capital markets and finding transaction opportunities.

""Members of the Structured Real Estate Investments Group will provide clients with multi-faceted expertise and cutting-edge strategies because they understand the markets in which they operate,"" said Mr. O'Connor. ""Lawyers in the Structured Real Estate Investments Group have strong relationships with institutional lenders and investors, funds and underwriters, as well as real estate owners and operators.""

Transactions addressed by the Structured Real Estate Investments Group involve real estate located in the U.S. and in any number of foreign countries. The Group works closely with the Firm's internationally recognized Tax group to devise and implement tax efficient structures which address U.S. and foreign tax concerns.

The accumulated experience of the Structured Real Estate Investments Group includes a broad array of institutional and private clients in connection with structured real estate matters. There are 13 attorneys in the Group.

Mr. Lipton has over 26 years experience handling the corporate aspects of real estate transactions, including public and private real estate syndications, joint ventures, acquisitions, collateralized debt obligations and common and preferred equity investments in real estate ventures. Mr. O'Connor has over 17 years of experience in various aspects of real estate finance and acquisitions, and represents numerous institutional and private real estate lenders and investors.

Lorne J. Baker has joined the workers’ compensation practice group of Evans & Dixon, L.L.C. as a senior associate.

Baker is licensed to practice in Missouri. Prior to joining Evans & Dixon, Baker was assistant vice president and general counsel for MERS/Missouri Goodwill Industries.

He received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan and a doctorate of law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
