Winstead's Austin Office Rates A+ in Diversity Survey
The Austin office of Winstead Sechrest & Minick P.C. has received an A+ rating in the latest annual survey of minority lawyers at large Austin law firms.

The Hispanic Bar Association of Austin and the Austin Black Lawyers Association compiled the “report card” based on figures submitted by the various firms. Winstead’s Austin office received the A+ designation in recognition that 15.8% of its lawyers are minorities.

Figures show minority lawyers comprise 14% of the membership of the State Bar of Texas.

“We’re quite honored and proud of this ranking,” says David Hewlett, Austin office Managing Partner. “But while it’s good news, we need to continue working on expanding diversity, as do all businesses.”

This is the seventh year for the survey, which grades firms on their percentage of minority attorneys and efforts to recruit additional minorities.

NATASHA CAVANAUGH ELECTED VICE CHAIR TO BOARD OF FREEDOMYP
Natasha Cavanaugh, associate in the Tax, Probate and Estate Planning Department of Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP, has been appointed vice chair to the Board of Directors of FreedomYP. FreedomYP is the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center’s young professionals group.

Cavanaugh, a resident of Park Hills, received her undergraduate degree in Economics and Masters Degree in Sociology from Stanford University. She obtained her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Cavanaugh was the managing editor for the Virginia Journal of Sports and the Law and was on the Article Review Board of the Virginia Journal of Social Policy and the Law. She also was vice president of the Virginia Employment and Labor Law Association.

Cavanaugh is a member of Southwestern Ohio Tax Institute Committee, the Board of Directors of the Senior Services of Northern Kentucky, the Unified Kenton County Code Enforcement Board, the Kenton County Democratic Executive Committee, and the firm’s Professional Women’s Resource Group (PWRG). She also has been selected to participate in the C-Change leadership program sponsored by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce.

TERRANCE ASHANTA-BARKER ELECTED TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF FREEDOMYP
Terrance Ashanta-Barker, an associate in the Business and Finance Department at Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP, has been elected to the Board of Directors of FreedomYP, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center’s young professionals group.

Ashanta-Barker, a resident of the Greater Cincinnati area, received his undergraduate degree from Tuskegee University and law degree from The Florida State University College of Law. He is a board member of the Cincinnati Business Incubator and the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation. Ashanta-Barker is a volunteer for the Special Olympics and various other community service initiatives.

SCHIFF HARDIN LLP TO RECEIVE PRO BONO AWARD FROM THE CHICAGO LAWYERS' COMMITTEE
The Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Inc. will recognize Schiff Hardin and other lawyers, along with plaintiffs from the Afro-American Patrolman's League, on the 30th Anniversary of their role in landmark litigation challenging racial discrimination in hiring and promotion by the Chicago Police Department. This will take place at the annual meeting of the Chicago Lawyers' Committee on Monday, August 28, 2006, which begins at 11:30 a.m., and will be held at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel, Chicago, Illinois. U.S. Senator Russ Feingold will give the keynote address at this event.

Chicago Lawyers' Committee, a cooperative, pro bono effort of Chicago's leading law firms, is Chicago's partnership for equal justice. Annually, more than 20,000 hours of donated professional legal services, with a value of $3.5 million, are directed to civil rights issues through the Committee. P. Glen Smith Joins Husch & Eppenberger's Insolvency Practice Group
Husch & Eppenberger, LLC proudly welcomes P. Glen Smith as of Counsel in the firm's Insolvency Practice Group.

Mr. Smith concentrates his practice in the areas of creditor's rights, workouts, and reorganizations. He is the founding and Senior Pastor of Liberty Springs Covenant Church in Liberty, Missouri, having received his Masters of Divinity (M.Div.) training from Nazarene Theological Seminary. Mr. Smith previously practiced law with Husch as a Member of the Firm from 1991-2001.

Mr. Smith earned his law degree from the University of Memphis School of Law in 1983. He graduated with a B.S. in Political Science from Tennessee Technological University in 1978.
