Sweeney Quoted in Toy Safety Article in Puget Sound Business Journal
Emilia Sweeney was quoted in the Puget Sound Business Journal on September 21, 2007, in an article called, "In testing toys, are retailers taking liability risks?" The article explored how retailers are responding to recent high-profile recalls of toys manufactured in China. Sweeney said that when a retailer promises to ensure the safety of products it sells, it could possibly be construed as an express warranty, which could leave the retailer potentially liable. "If you go and tell the world that you're testing toys, and then you didn't test something and a problem was found, it would be worse for you in a lawsuit," she said. "Any time you make a public statement like that, you need to be very careful."
