BS&K Attorneys to Present at HR/NY Annual Legislative and Legal Conference
When conducting a workplace investigation and making the adverse employment decisions that often result from the investigation, investigators and decision makers must anticipate the possible legal challenges to their actions and decisions. At a minimum, you must prepare for the possibility of being tested and second guessed by the unemployment division, the EEOC, Department of Labor, the NLRB, City or State Human Rights Division, arbitrators, juries or judges.

Louis P. DiLorenzo, Managing Partner of Bond, Schoeneck & King's Manhattan and Garden City offices and Howard M. Miller, Partner at Bond, Schoeneck & King, will present a case study of workplace investigations involving employee misconduct and a resulting adverse employment decision concerning a protected individual. You will witness live portions of the actual investigation conducted by the Human Resources Director and then watch as the Human Resources Director and the actual decision maker are cross-examined by the plaintiff's lawyer. You will be able to observe the resulting consequences of an employer's investigative and other strategic decisions and then participate in a lessons learned discussion. You will not want to miss this interactive demonstration or the valuable reference material that will be provided.

Test
Corporate Counsel magazine's annual survey of Fortune 250 general counsel, "Who Represents America's Biggest Companies", placed Baker Botts No. 1 in Intellectual Property with seven mentions, No. 4 in Corporate Transactions with seven mentions, and No. 5 Overall with 20 mentions.

Last year the firm was tied for fourth in IP with five mentions, did not make the Corporate Transaction list and was tied for 10th Overall with 19 mentions.

For the past five years, Corporate Counsel has conducted this survey, asking general counsel to list their "primary" outside law firm. This year, 93 companies provided information on their top outside counsel for corporate transactions, litigation, labor and employment, and intellectual property. Baker Botts was mentioned four times in the litigation field and twice in the labor and employment section in the 2006 survey.

"Placing first in the nation in Intellectual Property and among the Top 5 in Corporate Transactions and in the Overall category this year is a reflection of how we continue to strengthen our client service," said Managing Partner Walt Smith. "Most importantly, our 'overall' numbers come from across all categories, not from just one or two survey areas.
