Tyler Cooper Managing Partner Serves on Governor’s Commission on Judicial Reform
Tyler Cooper Managing Partner William S. Fish, Jr. is among a group of lawyers, judges, lawmakers and others who have been serving on the Governor's Commission on Judicial Reform. The commission, which has been studying ways to increase openness and accountability in the state's judicial system, recently submitted its final report to Governor M. Jodi Rell.

The commission met numerous times over the past several months and held public hearings throughout the state to solicit citizen input on the topic of judicial reform. The commission surveyed judicial rules, policies and procedures in developing its report for the governor. Issues dealt with included public and media access to court records and documents, cameras in the courtroom, the judicial grievance process, and the rule-making authority of judges.

Canada’s Largest College Confers First Honorary Degree to Bill Davis
Seneca College will confer its first ever honorary degree to the Honourable Bill Davis. Mr. Davis will be presented with an Honorary Bachelor of Applied Studies.

Mr. Davis was one of the architects of Ontario's college system. As Ontario's Minister of Education from 1964 to 1971, he oversaw the creation of 22 community colleges.

Strasburger Continues Commitment to Diversity by Adding Eight New Associates, Including Three Women and Two Minorities
Strasburger & Price, LLP is pleased to announce the addition of eight new associates to its practice earlier this fall. Of the eight joining Strasburger, three are women and two are Hispanic, continuing Strasburger’s efforts to recruit and hire minority and women attorneys. Strasburger proudly welcomes the following new associates:

“Strasburger has a long history of valuing diversity. This class is representative of our commitment to diversity. In 2003, as part of this commitment, Strasburger formed its Diversity and Community Relations Committee. In the aggregate, over the three years since the Committee was formed, 30% of permanent offer acceptances for first year associate positions have been by minority candidates,” said Arcie Jordan, Chairperson of Strasburger’s Diversity and Community Relations Committee.

Strasburger also values placing minorities and women in leadership positions: Strasburger is the only large Texas firm with a woman currently serving as Chairperson. Carol Glendenning has served as Chair of Strasburger’s Policy Committee since 2005.

Further, of Strasburger’s five Texas offices, one is headed by a minority partner and another is headed by a female partner. Ms. Jordan continued, “Our class of 2007 is also diverse, with 75% women and 50% minorities starting next fall. The firm will continue its mission to build a diverse team of attorneys who offer top-notch legal services.

Marcy D. Sheinwold Joins Adjunct Faculty at Touro Law Center
Partner Marcy D. Sheinwold has joined the adjunct faculty at Touro Law Center. Ms. Sheinwold was Valedictorian of Touro's Class of 1988. She is delighted to be back on campus in this new capacity teaching a course entitled "Legal Process," which focuses on developing research and writing skills for new law students.

HALL ESTILL ATTORNEY SELECTED TO AUTHOR BOOK
Jeffery M. Sherman, shareholder in the Washington, D.C. office of the law firm of Hall, Estill, Hardwick, Gable, Golden & Nelson, P.C., has been selected by Aspatore Books as an author in their newly published book, Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Settlements and Negotiations: Leading Lawyers on Debtor/Creditor Relations, Litigation Issues, and Bankruptcy Proceeding.

The book features contributing authors from some of the nations leading law firms and provides an authoritative perspective on best practices for dealing with financially distressed companies covering the intricacies of bankruptcy and financial restructuring from a creditor and debtor perspective, and detailing the various solutions and forums available to each party.

Sherman has 25 years of law experience. His practice areas include Corporate/Commercial Litigation, Bankruptcy/Debtor/Creditor, Claims Litigation, Financial Services, International, Turnaround & Restructuring and other related areas. He received his J.D., with honors from George Washington University, National Law Center, class of 1981.

Don and Judy Kihle Host The Assistance League of Tulsa Annual Antique Seminar
Honorary Chairs, Don and Judy Kihle will host the Assistance League of Tulsa Annual Antique Seminar and Luncheon on Wednesday, October 25th at the Doubletree Hotel Downtown in Tulsa. Ken Hays, an internationally recognized appraiser who appears on “Antiques Roadshow” on the PBS network, will be the guest speaker.

The league gives scholarships to various public school programs and individuals. The league also provides funds for a variety of fine arts programs through the Betty Bradstreet Endowment. A non-profit, all volunteer organization, the Assistance League receives no funds from federal, state or local agencies.

Don Kihle has been in the practice of law for over 60 years in Tulsa. He was a Director of the law firm of Arrington Kihle Gaberino and Dunn and predecessors from 1967-1997. He has been with the firm of GableGotwals since 1997 and is currently of counsel. Mr. Kihle has a long history of service to the community, serving with the Rotary Club since 2001 and the Boys Scouts of America as Cubmaster, Troop Committee Chairman, District Chairman and Camporee Chairman. He has received the Silver Beaver Award and the Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow.
