Cablevision Names Zachary Carter to Special Litigation Committee
Dorsey partner and chair of the firm's White Collar and Civil Fraud group, Zachary Carter, was named last week to the board of Cablevision Systems Corp, where he will serve on a special litigation committee. A former U.S. attorney and federal magistrate in Brooklyn, New York, Carter joined the board together with Grover Brown, formerly a chancellor and vice-chancellor on the Delaware Court of Chancery. Carter also serves on the board of Marsh and McLennan Companies.

Cozen O’Connor Attorney Richard R. Rardin Honored by Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center for Pro Bono Work
Cozen O'Connor member Richard R. Rardin was recently honored for his ongoing pro bono work for abused and neglected children by the Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center in Denver, Colo. The Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center delivers high quality legal services for at-risk and maltreated children. The center evolved from a demonstration project to a major force that advocates for the protection of children in the Rocky Mountain Region and across the country. The center has a staff of 20, including nine full-time attorneys, two social workers and administrative staff, and maintains an expert panel that gives pediatric healthcare, psychological and psychiatric technical help to its staff attorneys, volunteers in the Pro Bono Attorney Program and law students in its Child Advocacy Clinic.

Rardin practices in the firm’s Denver office with the subrogation and recovery department. Prior to joining Cozen O’Connor, he served as an assistant city attorney with the city and county of Denver, where he prosecuted child welfare dependency and neglect cases, as well as a deputy district attorney with the 13th Judicial District in Sterling, Colo., and deputy prosecuting county attorney in Rock Springs, Sweetwater County, Wyo., in the 3rd Judicial District.

Rardin earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming (B.S., 1987) and his law degree from the University of Wyoming College of Law (J.D., 1991). He is admitted to practice in Wyoming and Colorado, as well as before the Colorado Supreme Court and the U.S. District Courts for the District of Colorado and Wyoming. He is a member of the American, Colorado, Wyoming and Denver bar associations.

Cozen O’Connor Family Law Attorney Jennifer A. Brandt Appears on Cn8 Your Morning….
Cozen O’Connor member Jennifer A. Brandt recently appeared on It’s Your Call With Lynn Doyle on CN8, The Comcast Network, discussing whether pre-nuptial agreements have gone too far in their provisions beyond the usual financial considerations. Many pre-nuptial agreements are now putting limits on weight, frequency of marital relations, dress code, and other matters previously not addressed in a written contract between spouses. Brandt also appeared on CN8 Your Morning to discuss the recent New Jersey Supreme Court decision regarding gay marriage. Brandt explained the parameters of the decision including the options for the legislature enacting laws specifically allowing gay marriages or civil unions.

Brandt practices from the firm's Philadelphia and Cherry Hill offices, where she concentrates in family law litigation, focusing on divorce, custody and support matters at both the trial court and appellate levels. She also assists clients in adoptions and in family matters concerning incapacitated persons.

Brandt serves as a family law expert on numerous media programs, including KYW Newsradio, WPVI and WCAU and KYW television in Philadelphia, and CN8 The Comcast Network. She has been quoted in Main Line Today magazine and The National Law Journal. She also serves as a course instructor at Haverford Township Adult School and at Main Line School Night for Adult Learners.

Brandt was named as one of American Lawyer Media’s 2004 “Lawyers on the Fast Track” and served as a judge for the 2005 “Lawyers on the Fast Track” competition.

Brandt is a member of the family law sections of the American, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia bar associations. She is former chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s membership committee, a former member of its executive committee and previously served as editor of the family law section newsletter. She is a member of the Thomas J. Forkin American Inn of Court in Family Law.

A resident of Wynnewood, Pa., Brandt earned her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University (B.A., with highest honors, 1991) and her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D., 1994), where she was senior editor of the Journal of International Business Law and an Arthur Littleton Fellowship Instructor in legal research and writing. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.

Cozen O’Connor Attorney Richard J. Bortnick Presents at National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies Annual Conference
Cozen O’Connor member Richard J. Bortnick recently served as a presenter on “D&O Exposures: Present and Future” at the Annual Conference of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies in Tampa, Florida. Resident in the firm’s West Conshohocken, Pa., office, Bortnick practices with the insurance department, concentrating his practice in directors' and officers' liability, securities fraud, insurance coverage, products liability, employment practices and commercial litigation. He lectures frequently at seminars around the world and has published and been quoted in numerous articles on D&O and insurance-related issues. He also has authored a chapter on D&O which was published in the professional liability treatise "Inside the Minds: Professional Liability Law: Leading Lawyers on Strategies for Minimizing Risk and Increasing Success in Professional Liability Suits."

Bortnick is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the District of New Jersey and the Western District of Michigan, as well as the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Eleventh Circuit.

A resident of Gladwyne, Pa., Bortnick earned his undergraduate degree from Boston University (B.S., summa cum laude, 1981) and his law degree from the Villanova University School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 1985).

Ptaszek Named "Leading Lawyer
Cleveland partner Edward Ptaszek has been named a "Leading Lawyer" by Inside Business magazine, which will publish the 2007 edition of "Leading Lawyers" in its December issue. This honor places Mr. Ptaszek among the top one percent of attorneys in Northeast Ohio, according to Morgan Lewis, Editor, Leading Lawyers.

Mr. Ptaszek has developed special experience in federal and state taxation, with a particular emphasis on tax planning for corporations and partnerships. He has extensive experience in planning for joint ventures between major enterprises, real estate development and business formation, and in the tax aspects of securitized asset-backed financing and tax-exempt financing.

Prominent Corporate Attorney Joins Winston & Strawn's New York Office
The international law firm of Winston & Strawn LLP continued its New York expansion today with the announcement of the hiring of partner Carey Schreiber in its corporate group. Schreiber was most recently with Dewey Ballantine LLP.

Schreiber focuses his practice in bankruptcy matters, including corporate reorganization and refinancing, and debtors’ and creditors’ rights and remedies. He has counseled clients on both finance and corporate matters and also argued motions and participated in contested matters in federal courts in various jurisdictions, as well as New York state courts.

“Carey’s arrival enhances our existing corporate practice and is yet another important step towards our expansion goals in New York,” said Jonathan Goldstein, head of the firm’s New York office. “His broad experience in corporate reorganization and bankruptcy matters make him a valuable addition to the firm.”

Schreiber’s experience includes representation of debtors, creditors, purchasers, and other parties in many of the largest bankruptcy cases. Schreiber has represented lenders in loan transactions, workouts, analysis of collateral positions, and bankruptcy restructuring matters. He frequently represents clients with respect to the treatment of executory contracts and unexpired leases, the purchase and sale of assets at bankruptcy sales, mergers and acquisitions of troubled companies, bankruptcy claims trading, and the prosecution and defense of avoidance actions brought under the Bankruptcy Code.
