Mesher and Baker Author Chapter in Insurance Publication
Barry Mesher and Gabe Baker have written a chapter entitled, "The Role of an Insurance Lawyer," which appears in a book called Insurance Settlements and Negotiations: Leading Lawyers on Structuring Insurance Contracts, Negotiating Policy Disputes, and Formulating Litigation Strategies published by Aspatore Books as part of its "Inside Minds" series. This popular series taps into the minds of leading C-level executives and presents their perspectives on a wide variety of business topics.

Four Associates at Keating Muething & Klekamp Admitted to Practice Law in Ohio
Gregory L. Cecil, an associate of Keating Muething & Klekamp (KMK) since 2005, Trenton B. Douthett, Jonathan M. Hiltz and Mark L. Opitz were recently admitted to practice law in Ohio.

Gregory L. Cecil, already licensed in Kentucky (2005), practices in the firm’s real estate group. He received his J.D. from Salmon P. Chase College of Law, Northern Kentucky University (2005) and his B.A. from the University of Kentucky (2000). Prior to joining KMK, Mr. Cecil was a Closing Agent with Riverbend Commercial Title Agency, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the firm.

Trenton B. Douthett received his J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law (2006) and his B.S. from the United States Naval Academy (1996). Mr. Douthett practices in the firm’s litigation practice group. Prior to joining KMK, Mr. Douthett was a Senior Consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton in San Diego and a Lieutenant in the United States Navy.

Jonathan M. Hiltz received his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law, Editor-in-Chief of Law Reveiw, Moot Court (2006) and his B.S. from Miami University (2003). Mr. Hiltz practices in the firm’s business representation and transactions practice group.

Mark L. Opitz received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School, cum laude, Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy, Executive Editor; White Scholar (2006) and his B.S. from Saint Louis University, summa cum laude (2003). Mr. Opitz practices in the firm’s business representation and transactions practice group.

Hunton & Williams’ Steven Epstein named to Community Partnerships Board
Steven B. Epstein, counsel with the Raleigh office, was named to Community Partnerships, Inc.’s board of directors. Community Partnerships, a United Way community agency, is a private, nonprofit agency that works to improve the quality of life for children and adults who experience disabilities or other challenges through various programs in Wake, Durham, Johnston and Wayne counties.

“Hunton & Williams has been a longtime supporter of Community Partnerships,” says William S. Patterson, managing partner of the Raleigh office of Hunton & Williams. “We believe it is important to be involved in organizations such as this that better our community. We congratulate Steve on being named to the Community Partnerships board of directors.”

Epstein has been practicing law for 16 years. His litigation practice focuses on product liability, personal injury and wrongful death, commercial contract disputes, business torts, unfair trade practices, construction, and mediation and arbitration.

Community Partnerships, Inc. achieves its mission by working with individuals, families, and community members to expand educational opportunities, advance economic independence and promote full citizenship for children and adults with disabilities. White Collar Criminal Defense Lawyer Whitney Ellerman Joins Litigation Practice at Hunton & Williams
Hunton & Williams LLP is pleased to announce the expansion of its firmwide litigation practice with the addition of Whitney C. Ellerman, as partner, in its Washington, DC office. He joins the law firm’s white collar criminal defense and special investigations practice. Most recently with Janis, Schuelke & Wechsler, he has served both as a federal prosecutor and in private practice. “Whitney has a tremendous reputation in the local bar,” said Wally Martinez, managing partner of Hunton & Williams. “The fact that Whitney has been both a private practice lawyer and a federal prosecutor provides him an in-depth understanding of the challenges facing our clients.”
“As a former federal prosecutor, Whitney has a strong referral network and a reputation for handling investigations,” added Tom Slater, who heads the litigation, intellectual property and antitrust practices of Hunton & Williams firmwide. “He will work closely with Ken Bell’s group, which joined the firm three months ago, to further broaden our white collar defense practice in Washington.” Ellerman received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Virginia. Following his graduation from law school, where he was the Special Projects Editor of the Virginia Law Review, Mr. Ellerman worked as an associate at Latham & Watkins and at Wiley, Rein & Fielding. Ellerman then joined Janis, Schuelke & Wechsler, left to become an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, and later rejoined that firm. He is admitted to practice in Virginia and the District of Columbia. The white collar and special investigations practice at Hunton & Williams covers a broad spectrum of matters: assisting our clients with regulatory and compliancerelated issues, civil and criminal enforcement actions by federal and state governments, and internal and external investigations.

Greg Goldberg Appointed Co-Chair Of ABA White Collar Crime Regional Committee
Holland & Hart is pleased to announce that Greg Goldberg is now Co-Chair of the American Bar Association's White Collar Crime Committee for the Rocky Mountain Region.

Mr. Goldberg is a Partner in the firm's Commercial Litigation, White-Collar, and Corporate Compliance practice groups in Denver. Specifically, Mr. Goldberg represents companies and individuals in commercial litigation and in responding to government criminal and administrative investigations, and requests for documents and information.

His recent appointment as Co-Chair of the Rocky Mountain Region Committee is for a two-year term, ending October 2008. Along with his fellow co-chairs in this position, Mr. Goldberg will organize and structure the committee, conduct dialogue sessions between local defense attorneys and the U.S. Attorneys Office, create a Young Lawyers Division within the regional committee, hold educational programs, contribute to the national organization's newsletter, and attend the national meetings.

Former Illinois Solicitor General Joins the Chicago Office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP
Former Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw partner and Illinois Solicitor General Joel D. Bertocchi, has joined the Chicago office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP. Bertocchi will bring his extensive experience as an appellate and criminal law advocate to the firm.

Mr. Bertocchi, who also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Chicago, has argued two cases before the United States Supreme Court and more than two dozen appeals in the United States Court of Appeals and state appellate and supreme courts.

“In our parallel career paths, I have known and worked with Joel as a federal prosecutor, senior government counsel and private practitioner,” said J. William Roberts, Managing Partner of Hinshaw and Chair of the firm’s national Business Litigation Practice. “He is uniformly respected for his incisive legal analysis and his ability to communicate through the written word. I look forward to sharing his acumen, wit and energy in our appellate, white collar and governmental practices.”

Mr. Bertocchi began his legal career as a law clerk for the Honorable Aaron E. Goodstein, the United States Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Wisconsin from 1983 to 1985. He also served two years as a staff attorney for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit before joining the U.S. Attorney’s office. As an Assistant United States Attorney he tried cases, supervised grand jury investigations, and briefed and argued numerous complex appeals on behalf of the United States. He is active in several professional organizations, including both the Criminal and Civil Pattern Federal Jury Instruction Committees of the Seventh Circuit. He is also a member of the Seventh Circuit Bar Association, a Master of the Bench of the Chicago Inn of Court and a member of the Appellate Lawyers’ Association.

Mr. Bertocchi graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1985 and received his undergraduate degree, with honors, from the University of Wisconsin as well. He has received the 2002 “Supreme Court Best Brief Award” from the National Association of Attorneys General, as well as the Director’s Award for Superior Performance from the U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Bertocchi has been selected by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in Civil Appellate Law.

Jeff Nave Named to NABL Board
Foster Pepper PLLC is pleased to announce that Jeff Nave, Chair of the firm’s Municipal Government practice group, has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL). Jeff practices out of the firm’s Spokane office.

The National Association of Bond Lawyers was incorporated as an Illinois non-profit corporation on February 5, 1979, for the purposes of educating its members and others in the law relating to state and municipal bonds and other obligations, providing a forum for the exchange of ideas as to law and practice, improving the state of the art in the field, providing advice and comment at the federal, state and local levels with respect to legislation, regulations, rulings and other action, or proposals therefore, affecting state and municipal obligations, and providing advice and comment with regard to state and municipal obligations in proceedings before courts and administrative bodies through briefs and memoranda as a friend of the court or agency.

Jeff’s practice emphasizes municipal finance, municipal tax and federal tax credit law. He has substantial experience representing Indian tribes, housing authorities and other local governments in connection with the issuance of tax-exempt bonds and with transactions involving federal tax credits. In addition, Jeff represents investment banking firms as underwriters' counsel on municipal securities offerings.
