123 Jones Day Lawyers Selected in 2007 Best Lawyers in America
123 Jones Day attorneys have been selected by their peers for inclusion in the 2007 Best Lawyers in America guide, up from 98 in the 2006 guide.

The list of candidates is voted upon by a peer group of 18,500 leading lawyers throughout the U.S. As a preeminent referral guide to top attorneys nationwide, Best Lawyers includes 57 specialties in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., and is based on some 415,000 detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers. The 2007 edition of Best Lawyers --its 13th--will be published in November 2007.

Jones Day Welcomes Transactional Intellectual Property Partner Warren Nachlis in New York
Warren L. Nachlis, an intellectual property lawyer focusing on transactional matters, has joined the New York office of international law firm Jones Day as a partner.

Formerly a partner at Shearman & Sterling, the primary focus of Mr. Nachlis's practice is technology related corporate transactions, including, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and structured finance transactions, licensing, and joint ventures. He also counsels clients on intellectual property and technology issues. His areas of technical expertise include polymers, pharmaceuticals, chemistry and biology. Mr. Nachlis's background also includes patent litigation and interference matters.

""Warren's broad and deep transactional experience will be extremely helpful to clients,"" said Brian M. Poissant, a co-chair of Jones Day’s Intellectual Property Practice. ""His arrival not only marks another step in establishing our intellectual property practice as the nation's leader, but also provides more depth to our robust transactional capabilities.""

Mr. Nachlis received a B.A. in Chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College in 1987, a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1993, and a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1997.

Jones Day Welcomes Private Equity Partner Robert Kennedy in New York
The international law firm Jones Day announced that private equity transactional lawyer Robert F. Kennedy, 41, has joined its New York office as a partner.

Mr. Kennedy has represented buyout funds and strategic buyers and sellers in numerous leveraged recapitalizations, stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions and private equity investments across a broad range of industries.

""We are very pleased that Bob has joined Jones Day in the New York office,"" said Dennis LaBarre, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's New York office. ""The flourishing private equity markets make the timing of his arrival perfect. His knowledge and experience in this area will be tremendously valuable to our clients. Bob's arrival represents the latest step in our push to substantially expand our transactional practice in New York as we've grown from 170 to 310 lawyers in the last five years.""

Formerly a partner in the New York office of Latham & Watkins, Mr. Kennedy is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He is listed in Chambers' guide to America's leading lawyers for business, and in The Best Lawyers in America.

CDO lawyer Edward O'Connell joins Jones Day in New York as Partner
Edward J. O'Connell, a prominent CDO and structured finance lawyer, has joined the New York office of Jones Day as a partner.

Formerly a partner with the CDO group at Schulte Roth & Zabel, Mr. O'Connell's practice focuses on collateralized debt obligations, both cash and synthetic. He also has extensive experience with traditional securitization transactions.

""Getting a lawyer with the experience and reputation of Ed O'Connell is a clear demonstration that Jones Day has arrived in the CDO space,"" said Glenn S. Arden, a New York partner, who along with Mark Sisitsky, is responsible for the CDO and securitization practice at Jones Day.

Mr. O'Connell is a frequent speaker and writer on the subject of structured finance. Recent articles include ""ABCs of Synthetic ABS"" in the Journal of Structured Finance (Spring 2006) and ""Developments in Credit Card Securitization"" in the Review of Banking and Financial Services (August 2006). He is a graduate of Wagner College (B.S. 1982) and Fordham University (J.D. 1986).

Jones Day also recently added derivatives specialist Joel Laub, formerly with Morgan Lewis, as of counsel. Jones Day has 30 offices in centers of business and finance throughout the world. Robert J. Miller Joins Jones Day Columbus Office
The international law firm Jones Day is pleased to announce that Robert J. Miller has joined the Columbus office as Partner in the general business practice, where he will focus primarily on cross-border transactions and corporate governance.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Mr. Miller served as corporate general counsel/global legal for Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, where he oversaw legal efforts relating to corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property strategy, technology licensing, contract law, litigation and claims defense, and international trade.

Mr. Miller spent several years in Japan, where he successfully handled a variety of Asian transactions including joint ventures, divestitures and corporate structures. While the majority of the transactions were in China and Japan, he also led projects in India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan and Australia. He brought to each opportunity the skill he gained working with foreign government officials to gain the appropriate licenses, protections and regulatory approvals.

Elwood Lui Awarded California Bar's Witkin Medal as "Legal Giant"
Elwood Lui, the Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's San Francisco Office who also maintains a practice in Los Angeles, is the 2006 recipient of the State Bar of California's prestigious Bernard Witkin Medal, awarded to ""those legal giants among us who have altered the landscape of California jurisprudence.""

""We have always been proud of Elwood's accomplishments and are all very pleased to see him receive this lofty recognition,"" said Stephen J. Brogan, Managing Partner of Jones Day. ""He certainly deserves to be in the company of past recipients like Shirley and Seth Hufstedler, Bob Raven, Chief Justice Ronald George, and Court of Appeal Justice Norman Epstein. We all count ourselves lucky to be his partner.""

Mr. Lui had a distinguished judicial career before entering private practice. A former associate justice of the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division 3, he also served as a judge of the Los Angeles Superior and the Los Angeles Municipal Court. Mr. Lui began his legal career as a deputy attorney general for the California Department of Justice.

Considered an authority on financial and accounting matters Mr. Lui was a certified public accountant with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu). He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and a member of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers. At Jones Day, Mr. Lui has concentrated his practice in appeals and complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts and has represented major corporations and public entities in trial and appellate matters.

The Bernard Witkin Medal is named after its first recipient, a towering figure in California jurisprudence who was a lawyer, author, lecturer and scholar. The late Mr. Witkin received the medal in 1993. Each year, a distinguished panel chooses the medal recipient.

Jones Day Welcomes Christine M. Kim to Asian Real Estate Practice
The international law firm Jones Day announced that its new partner, Christine M. Kim, has joined its Hong Kong Office to lead the Firm's Real Estate Practice in Asia. Ms. Kim joins Jones Day from Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, where she has been a real estate partner in its New York office since 1997.
