Jeanette Chan and Doug Cifu Listed Among the 30 Most Influential Lawyers in Global Private Equity
Partners Jeanette Chan and Doug Cifu were listed among Private Equity International's 30 most influential lawyers in global private equity. These lawyers were selected by the publication for a "compelling mix of attributes" that includes being "sharp, commercial, great at negotiating terms and even better at working long hours without their attention to detail fading." The article notes that "Paul, Weiss has been at the forefront of Asian private equity for years, and the firm's China practise has been particularly active." Jeanette, who the publication calls a "veteran deal lawyer with particular experience in the tricky area of foreign direct investment into the People's Republic," is noted for being involved "in some of the firm's most high profile mandates in China to date" with fellow partner Jack Lange. The article points out that Doug, "the co-head of the private equity group at Paul, Weiss, has a global vantage point on the private equity industry, as well as an understanding of technology-driven sectors that until recently were only the province of venture capital." OMM Represents Lead Investor in VaxInnate Series C Financing
O'Melveny represented New Leaf Venture Partners as lead investor in the $40 million Series C financing of drug manufacturer VaxInnate Corp.

The funding will be used to launch clinical trials of two influenza vaccines, the first in a pipeline of immunological products that VaxInnate is developing using a proprietary platform for identifying and manufacturing antigens using recombinant DNA techniques.

"We decided to lead the round because we view VaxInnate as a unique development platform, with initial applications in areas where there is clear unmet medical need," said Phillippe Chambon, managing director with New Leaf Ventures. "They already have really exciting efficacy data and a much better manufacturing process than most vaccines."

Also participating in the round were Canaan Partners and returning investors CHL Medical Partners, HealthCare Ventures, MedImmune Ventures Inc., and Oxford Bioscience Partners.

The O'Melveny team was led by Silicon Valley partner Sam Zucker and associates Monifa Clayton and Stephanie Sheng. Newport Beach partner John Kappos and associate Diane Wong provided IP advice.

VaxInnate is a privately held biotechnology company based in Cranbury, New Jersey. The company is developing novel, proprietary vaccines for both pandemic and seasonal influenza. VaxInnate's breakthrough vaccines are based on its Toll-like receptor (TLR) technology platform, which dramatically improves vaccine immunogenicity and efficacy.
