David J. Steerman Speaks at Pennsylvania Bar Institute Program
David J. Steerman, a partner in the Litigation Department’s Family Law Practice Group of Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP, recently served as a panelist for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute program, "10th Annual Family Law Update," on October 4, 2006. Steerman’s presentation covered alimony and counsel fees. Steerman is a leader of the Family Law section of the Philadelphia Bar Association, and served as its chair in 2003, overseeing issues that are pertinent to family court. He is a former member of the Judicial Selection and Retention Committee and the Board of Governors for the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Steerman received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and was awarded his Juris Doctor from Temple University School of Law. He has earned an AV ® rating from Martindale-Hubbell, indicating very high to preeminent legal ability and very high ethical standards. He donates his legal expertise to Philadelphia V.I.P and is an Attorney Mentor in Family Law. Steerman is a resident of Penn Valley.

Steerman has been a featured speaker on family law topics for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the National Business Institute, Temple University L.L.M. Program, Widener University Paralegal Institute, as well as other organizations. He has penned family law articles for various periodicals including Philadelphia Lawyer Magazine and Pennsylvania Family Lawyer. Steerman has also appeared on Comcast’s CN8 "Money Matters" program speaking on family law issues.


He has authored numerous articles, including: "Case Note on Gowdy v. Kesserling," Pennsylvania Family Lawyer (June 1997, Volume 19, No. 2); "Custody Relocation Update, The Burdens of a Move," Philadelphia Bar Association Family Law Section – Newsletter (Fall – 1996); "Interviewer – Custody a View from the Bench," Philadelphia Lawyer Magazine (Summer 1994, Volume 57, No.2) and "Family Law – The Right Moves," Philadelphia Lawyer Magazine (Summer 1993, Volume 57, No. 2).

His cases that have appeared in publications include: "Schulman vs. Schulman," Wall Street Journal, and "Egelman vs. Egelman," The Philadelphia Legal Intelligencer.

His professional associations & memberships include: Philadelphia Bar Association, Family Law Section, Chair (2003-2004); Chair Elect (2002); Treasurer (2001); Secretary (2000); Co-Chair, Special Events Committee (1999); Family Law Section Executive Committee Member (1998-present) Co-Chair, Custody Committee (1993-1998); Member of The Temple American Inn of Court – Barrister; Montgomery County Bar Association - Associate Member - Member Family Law Section and numerous pro bono activities. Steerman was named as one of Pennsylvania’s "Super Lawyers" as listed in both the Philadelphia Magazine (June 2005 & 2006) and the Law and Politics Magazine, Pennsylvania Super Lawyers (2005 & 2006 editions).

Steerman also contributes his time and energy to assorted local charities and non-profit organizations. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Joseph J. Centeno Named One Of “Best Lawyers Under 40” By National Asian Pacific-American Bar Association
Joseph J. Centeno, a partner with the law firm of Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell and Hippel LLP, was named one of "Best Lawyers Under 40" by the National Asian Pacific-American Bar Association. Mr. Centeno will be honored on November 11 at the NAPABA National Installation Banquet in the Hyatt Bellevue Hotel. Mr. Centeno was selected because of his prominence and distinction in the field of law and for having demonstrated a strong commitment to civic and community affairs.

In addition to having been named one of the Best Lawyers Under 40, Mr. Centeno has a highly successful practice as a labor relations and litigation lawyer. He has won important cases for his numerous clients, including a major healthcare corporation and a prominent financial services firm as well as for townships. In addition, he has been successful in appeals before the United States Supreme Court on employment law issues and before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania on trade secret issues. It is no wonder that he was selected as one the "The Best of The Best" among labor and employment lawyers in the United States in 2006. In 2005, he was selected as one of "Pennsylvania’s Rising Stars" and a Super Lawyer. Due to his prominence and civic contributions, he was appointed by Mayor John Street to serve as a Commissioner to the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations.

In addition, Mr. Centeno serves as Hearing Officer to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s Disciplinary Board and is a member of the Board of Governors for the Philadelphia Bar Association; he also serves on the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Investigative Division for the Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention Committee.

He resides in Flourtown, Pennsylvania, which is in Springfield Township, Montgomery County.

Gary A. Bridge Joins Merchant & Gould, Minneapolis
Merchant & Gould, an intellectual property law firm, announced that Gary A. Bridge has joined its Minneapolis office as an associate. Mr. Bridge will practice intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent prosecution, focusing primarily within the chemical and biotechnology, and interference practice areas

Gary has experience in many aspects of client counseling including U.S. patent prosecution matters, patent interferences, patentability searches and opinions, due diligence (including review of license agreements), and infringement and clearance opinions. His specialties include patent interference practice, due diligence, patentability and prior art searches, and clearance opinions. Gary has experience in counseling clients over a diverse range of technologies, including biotechnology, therapeutic applications, organic and biologic-based pharmaceuticals and formulations, vaccines, antibodies, biochemistry, cell biology, biomaterials, herbicides, sanitizers, organometallic catalysts, and chemical processes.

Mr. Bridge earned his J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, NH. He also has a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri.

Merchant & Gould Welcomes Five New Attorneys To Minneapolis Office
Merchant & Gould, an intellectual property law firm, announced that it has added five new attorneys for positions in its Minneapolis office. The new attorneys bring a wealth of technical knowledge to the firm, including expertise relating to chemical and electrical engineering, aerospace, and physics.

Lori P. Sarageno joins the firm as an associate. She received her J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law and received her Ph.D. in organic and polymer chemistry from the University of Florida. She holds a B.S. in chemistry from the State University of New York. Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, she was employed by 3M.

Joshua P. Graham joins the firm as an associate. He received his J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center and holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and a B.A. in Mathematics from University of California, San Diego. He was also a senior editor for "Idea: The Intellectual Property Law Review."

Scott M. Oslick joins the firm as an associate. He received his J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law and holds a B.A. in government and politics from the University of Maryland. Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, he spent seven years working as a trademark attorney for the United States Patent and Trademark office.

Sarah M. Stensland joins the firm as an associate. She received her J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law and graduated magna cum laude. She was also a member of the William Mitchell Law Review. She holds a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Iowa.

Benjamin A. Tramm joins the firm as an associate. He received his J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law. He holds a B.S. degree in physics and engineering from Bethel University and has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology.

Significant Expansion at Atlanta Office of Merchant & Gould

David Wigley joins the firm as a partner. David's practice focuses on chemical, pharmaceutical, polymer, materials science, nanotechnology, optical sciences, biotechnology and related arts. He received his J.D. from the University of Arizona in 2000, and holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Purdue University.

Todd Obijeski joins as a patent agent. He has industry experience in the chemical, polymer and plastics packaging industries. Todd has an M.S. in chemical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a B.S. in chemical engineering from Cornell University.

Roy F. Kaufman appointed to Surrogate Decision Making Committee of NYS Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities.
Roy F. Kaufman has been appointed by the NYS Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities to a fourth consecutive two year term as a member of the Surrogate Decision Making Committee. The Committee reviews applications for medical services for disabled individuals and determines if the consumer has the capacity to consent to his own treatment, has a willing and available surrogate, and whether the proposed treatment is in the consumer's best interests.
