Sidley Austin Receives Top Rankings in 2007 Chambers Global Guide
Chambers Global named 52 lawyers from Sidley Austin as honorees in its 2007 guide of global law firms. Sidley ranked in a total of 31 practice areas, including seven number one rankings in the following areas: Capital Markets: Debt (Global); Capital Markets: Securitisation (Global); Capital Markets: Structured Finance & Derivatives (Global); WTO/International Trade (Global); WTO/International Trade: Belgium (Global); Capital Markets: Securitisation (USA); and Capital Markets: Structured Finance (USA).

Nine Sidley lawyers achieved Chambers Global number one rankings. In Brussels: Competition/Antitrust, Stephen Kinsella; WTO/International Trade, Scott D. Price; Energy - Oil & Gas (Regulatory & Litigation), Eugene R. Elrod; in Chicago: Capital Markets – Securitisation, Thomas W. Albrecht and Gary Stern; TMT - Telecom, Broadcast and Satellite, David Carpenter.

The Chambers Global Guide based its rankings on in-depth interviews with more than 6,500 key in-house counsel and leading private practice lawyers in 170 countries. A team of 30 full-time researchers conducted the survey over a 12-month period, with law firms and lawyers chosen on merit.

Accolades given to Sidley’s Capital Markets group – in the U.S. and globally - included “securitisation practices don’t come much better than Sidley’s” and the firm has “the best asset-backed commercial paper practice in the world.” Renwick Martin was hailed as “the finest structured finance expert in the country.” Gary Stern was noted as an “indisputable leader in the film finance industry.”

The firm’s WTO/International Trade group was praised as “exceptional” and “cutting edge.” One client commented that members of the group “know everyone who matters.” Dan Price, head of Sidley’s WTO/International Trade group received widespread recognition for his “sheer brilliance” and the “breadth and range of his experience and the quality of his intellect.”

The WTO group was also recently named Global WTO Law Firm of the Year at the Chambers Global Awards 2006. This was the first year that Chambers has given an award in this area. The group was recognized for its excellence in WTO dispute settlement and negotiations, and its innovative use of WTO rules to assist clients.

Stephen Kinsella, who heads the firm’s Competition/Antitrust practice out of Belgium, was noted as “so thorough and precise, you never have the feeling anything might have been missed.
