Clifford Chance is "Law Firm of the Year" in Germany
In addition Clifford Chance received the award for "Law Firm of the Year for Private Equity & Venture Capital".

JUVE is the leading legal publishing house in Germany. The award "Law Firm of the Year" was named in a total of 16 different categories. The awards were handed over at a gala in Frankfurt on 02 November 2006.

Please find the laudation below:
The years of hard work on build-up and restructuring have paid off. Clifford Chance has pulled away from the pack and is now widely regarded as the strongest challenger to Freshfields and Hengeler. The transaction business is its clear priority, not only in M&A but also in finance, real estate and private equity law. – Clifford Chance is among the top law firms in all of these areas. What is remarkable in this context is that the firm got there without too many lateral hires. Instead, it is relying primarily on its own up-and-coming lawyers.

Apart from the closure of CC’s Berlin office, the firm has managed to restructure its German practice relatively quietly and without much loss of image over the years. Today the organization appears more compact and profitable than ever. Management’s decision to orient the practices to certain industry specialisations and thus to push internal cooperation and cross-selling was groundbreaking, – and of all the offices worldwide, the Germans went furthest in implementing this strategy. Indeed, Clifford Chance has been more successful than many other international law firms in striking a balance between corporate and the other practice areas.

Its strong corporate practice, which has excellent contacts, especially with clients in industry, performed very well last year and was again able to push the entire firm ahead. The smaller offices in Düsseldorf and Munich also reported substantial progress in positioning themselves with the large corporate groups based in their regions, for example Düsseldorf office´s client Bayer. Clifford Chance’s investment of major resources in its private equity practice two years ago has also paid off handsomely.

Clifford Chance shows remarkable continuity in all this. The third generation of successful lawyers is now working in its real estate practice. But management won’t be able to rest on its laurels if it wants to remain successful and defend the firm’s position. The firm has a whole stable of younger partners and lawyers who are certainly worth retaining.

Clifford Chance advises International Power on 436MW wind farm acquisition in Europe
Global Law Firm, Clifford Chance, has advised International Power on its acquisition of the 436 MW Levanto onshore wind farm portfolio from Christofferson Robb & Company (CRC) for an enterprise value of EUR 567 million (GBP 379 million).

The acquisition comprises 286 MW of capacity in operation, 126 MW under construction, which is due to commence operation in 2007, and 24 MW of fully permitted capacity, which is planned to commence operation in 2008. 409 MW of the capacity is located in Germany and 27 MW in France, two of the most favourable regulatory regimes for renewable generation.

The Clifford Chance team was led by Andrew Grenville, a partner in the firm's London office and Joint Head of Clifford Chance's Global Energy and Utilities Group and Brendan Moylan, a partner in the London Corporate Finance Group.

Andrew comments:
This was an interesting transaction for CC because it allowed us to combine our extensive European renewables experience with our ability to put together an integrated multi-jurisdictional team. This deal is symptomatic of the way that renewables transactions have now moved into the major league in terms of scale and complexity. The transaction was important for our client, extending International Power's renewables business significantly, with this major position in Western European wind assets."

Other members of the team included Chris Oakley, Richard Tomlinson, Rita Charon, Jean-Paul Olivier, Volker Junghanns and Moritz Moeller-Hermann.

Skadden Arps, lead by Douglas Nordingler, acted for CRC.
