Jackson Walker Co-sponsors the NDCC's Telecommunications Conference 2006 - What's Next
Jackson Walker is proud to co-sponsor the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce's 2006 Telecommunications Conference. The conference will be held November 28th at the InterContinental Hotel in Dallas. The featured speakers are Steve Largent, President/CEO of CTIA-The Wireless Association, and Paul Hudson, Chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas. Berry Named Mid-South Super Lawyer
Frost Brown Todd is proud to announce that Member James W. Berry, Jr. has been named as a Mid-South Super Lawyer by Law & Politics Magazine. The complete listing of Mid-South Super Lawyers will appear in the December 10th issue of The New York Times. Only 5% of attorneys in Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee receive such an honor.

Berry is a Member of Frost Brown Todd’s Nashville office, practicing in the Firm's Corporate Department and the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice Group. Listed in all twelve editions of The Best Lawyers in America®for over twenty consecutive years, he is a member and past president of the Middle Tennessee Employee Benefits Council and a member of the Gulf Coast Area TE/GE Council. Mr. Berryis the Vice-Chair of the Tax Section of the Tennessee Bar Association, and has recently been elected to the Board of the Nashville Estate Planning Council where he will serve as Vice President for the 2007-2009 term.

He lectures frequently on employee benefits topics including talks to groups representing the Profit Sharing Council of America, the Legal Secretary/Law Office Management Institute, the Estate Planning Councils of Nashville, Memphis and Chattanooga, the National Association of Homebuilders, the Middle Tennessee Employee Benefits Council and the Tax Section of the Tennessee Bar Association.

Super Lawyers is an annual listing of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Attorneys are selected through a multi-step selection process that takes approximately nine months to complete. This process begins with a survey to all lawyers in the state who have been in practice for at least five years. In addition to the survey, Law & Politics researches credentials of nominees, assembles a blue ribbon review panel of leading attorneys from each of the 60 practice areas included in the evaluation, directly contacts lawyers and law firm representatives, verifies data, and conducts a good-standing review of candidates.

Legrand in €855 Million Secondary Offering
Cleary Gottlieb acted as counsel to the underwriters, JP Morgan Securities Ltd., BNP Paribas and Goldman Sachs International, in connection with a €855 million secondary offering of shares of Legrand, a large French electric equipment manufacturer. The offering was conducted through an accelerated bookbuilding and included an offering to qualified institutional buyers in the United States, as well as to institutional investors outside the United States. The transaction priced on November 7 and is expected to close on November 10.

The selling shareholders, Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, Montagu Private Equity and West Luxcon Holdings S.A. (a subsidiary of WestLB AG), sold a total of 39,750,000 shares in the offering. As a result, the free float of Legrand increased from 20% to 35%.

Banco de Crédito del Perú in Subordinated Debt Offering
Cleary Gottlieb represented Banco de Crédito del Perú (BCP) in a Rule 144A/Reg. S offering of $120 million of 6.95% notes, in the form of subordinated negotiable certificates of deposit, due 2021. Citigroup Global Markets Inc. acted as sole book-running manager of the offering, which closed on November 7.

BCP is the largest bank in Peru and has operations in Panama, Bolivia and the United States. It is the operating subsidiary through which Credicorp, Peru’s largest financial services company, conducts its Peruvian operations. The proceeds of the offering will be used to increase BCP’s regulatory capital.

Chrys Martin named chair of Law Institute for DRI—The Voice of the Defense Bar
At the recent Annual Meeting of DRI-The Voice of the Defense Bar in San Francisco, Chrys A. Martin, shareholder at the law firm Bullivant Houser Bailey PC in Portland, Oregon was named Chair of the Law Institute for the 22,000-member organization. As Law Institute Chair, Martin is responsible for the creation and direction of seminars and continuing legal education programs for the nation’s largest organization of defense trial lawyers.

With over 25 years of experience, Martin is a seasoned labor and employment law attorney. She focuses her practice on discrimination, discipline, discharge, harassment, wage and hour, union negotiations, employee contracts and benefits, ERISA, fiduciary liability, confidentiality agreements and selected litigation. Her casework includes being lead counsel in defending over 100 ERISA plan trustees in five class action suits and 12 Department of Labor claims in the largest investment manager fraud case in U.S. history.

“We are enthused to have Chrys Martin as the chair of the Law Institute. She brings boundless creativity coupled with unquestionable leadership, and I am confident that she will continue to lead the Law Institute into the creation and implementation of unique and effective educational programs for our members,” said John Kouris, executive director of DRI.

Martin was named by Chambers USA as one of America’s leading business lawyers in employment for the last two years, and most recently was recognized in the 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America published by Woodward/White, Inc. for her work in employment law. She has been a member of the Law Institute since 1994, and has previously served as the Chair of the Labor and Employment Committee, as well as on the Board of Directors from 1997-2000. She is a graduate of Oregon State University, and received her juris doctorate from Lewis & Clark Law School.

The Law Institute has a responsibility to DRI and its members to provide unparalleled legal education programs and seminars. I will strive to continue the proud tradition of the Law Institute to provide informative and insightful materials to better prepare them for the challenges they will face in their individual practices,” said Martin.

AMY K. FRIEDMANN JOINS BUCKINGHAM, DOOLITTLE & BURROUGHS, LLP AKRON OFFICE
The law firm of Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLP (“BDB”), is pleased to welcome Amy K. Friedmann, an Associate resident in the Akron office. The addition of Ms. Friedmann increases the Akron office to 49 attorneys and strengthens its trusts & estates practice.

Ms. Friedmann began with BDB as a Summer Associate in 2005. She served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Deborah L. Cook, United States of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, in 2004. Before studying law, Ms. Friedmann was a Network Consultant who specialized in deploying computer networks, servers, and databases. She also taught a college-level course in Windows Server technology.

Missouri State Honors Fry
Missouri State University presented Blackwell Sanders Partner Virginia L. Fry with its Outstanding Alumni Award at the Homecoming Dinner and Awards Ceremony on October 27, 2006, at the University Plaza Hotel. She was recognized for her extraordinary personal and professional accomplishments.

Among the qualities considered for the award are notable success in a profession, loyalty to the University and outstanding contributions to society.

As managing partner of the firm’s Springfield, Mo., office, Fry practices in the Labor & Employment Department, where she handles commercial litigation and also advises employers about employment contracts, separation agreements, and employment policies and procedures. In 2002, Fry was selected as one of the “Top 20 Influential Women in Business” in Springfield. She has also been selected as one of The Best Lawyers in America.
