Nixon Peabody Expands Business Litigation Practice on the West Coast; Firm Attracts Seasoned Litigator to Its Los Angeles–based Practice
Los Angeles, CA. Nixon Peabody LLP announces it is expanding its commercial litigation practice in Los Angeles with the addition of Thaddeus Stauber as a partner in its business litigation group.

Mr. Stauber is regarded as one of the few “go to” attorneys in the country for commercial disputes and complex issues involving cultural institutions, universities, foreign entities, and major art collectors engaged in the collecting and trade of important and valuable art and cultural property objects. He joins Nixon Peabody from the Los Angeles office of Sidley & Austin. Prior to that, he was general counsel for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). His arrival supports a firmwide strategy at Nixon Peabody to respond to the growing needs of clients on the West Coast by expanding in Los Angeles and California in strategic areas such as commercial litigation.

Mr. Stauber focuses his practice on complex business litigation and international disputes. He has worked on significant litigation and dispute matters across many borders, including in England, Germany, France, and Spain as well as multimillion-dollar transactional agreements. Representative work includes internationally reported claims and legal actions arising out of ownership disputes over priceless art works and cultural property in important international collections, and extensive trial and courtroom experience on legal actions ranging from creditor claims in bankruptcy to a wrongful death insurance coverage dispute and breaches of commercial contracts. In addition, he has successfully represented a number of major cultural institutions in their efforts to obtain tax-exempt bond financing and approvals from local governments to expand their campuses. Mr. Stauber has represented a diverse mix of clients including cultural institutions, leading universities, U.S. and foreign governmental entities, major banks, auction houses, and high-net-worth individuals.

Dennis Duggan, partner and chair of Nixon Peabody’s Litigation department, said, “Thaddeus Stauber adds depth to Nixon Peabody’s commercial litigation practice in Los Angeles and California, markets that we know are important to many of our clients. Thad’s dispute resolution and litigation success in the cultural world has enabled him to advance into other areas of law with these institutions, including in their borrowing and public financing transactions. In addition to his litigation background, this experience adds a unique resource to clients of our public finance practice, which is regularly ranked as one of the most active and sophisticated in the country. We are pleased to welcome Thad to Nixon Peabody, and look forward to the added litigation skill he brings to our firm and clients.
