Nationally Recognized Privacy and Data Security, Records and Information Management, and eDiscovery Attorney Joins Davis Wright Tremaine LLP
Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is pleased to announce that Charlene Allyson Brownlee—nationally recognized for her expertise in the areas of privacy and data security, records and information management, and eDiscovery—has joined the firm's Seattle office as a partner.

Brownlee is an active member of leading industry organizations including The Sedona Conference, ARMA International’s Ediscovery Advisory Group and founded the Licensing Executive Society’s Central Texas Chapter. Prior to joining DWT, Brownlee practiced with Fulbright & Jaworski and co-founded that firm's eDiscovery and information management practice group.

"I'm excited about joining Davis Wright Tremaine—it was their outstanding reputation in the area of privacy and security that caught my attention. This area is top of mind for corporate counsel, privacy officers and IT staff. Every comprehensive record and information management program must address the complex regulatory framework of federal, state and international laws. From how long to retain records, to information security and data breach requirements, to secure disposal of personal information – at Davis Wright Tremaine we can offer services across the entire information management lifecycle,” Brownlee said.

“We are delighted that Charlene has joined us. She just co-authored a legal treatise, Privacy Law, which will be available next month through American Lawyer Media/Law Journal Press. Her unique practice and leadership qualities will keep us at the forefront and allow the provision of comprehensive services clients need to mitigate the risks of eDiscovery, data breaches, and failure to implement a records management program,” said Bruce E. H. Johnson, chair of DWT’s privacy and security practice group.

Brownlee brings to DWT more than 16 years of both private practice and in house experience. “Charlene's significant information management and technologies expertise complements our firm's practice. Her reputation as a leader in this field will bring an unsurpassed level of service to our clients," said Daniel M. Waggoner, chair of DWT's communications, media and information technologies practice group.

Her reputation for innovation and passion for her practice have placed Brownlee in high demand as a speaker and panelist for a variety of organizations, including ARMA International; Kroll OnTrack’s Ediscovery Certification Faculty; American Conference Institute; West LegalWorks E-discovery & Records Retention Faculty; The Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals; the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association and more.

In addition to her practice at Fulbright, Brownlee served as in-house counsel with TELUS Corporation, a leading Canadian telecommunications and information management services company, and also spent five years in private practice with premier Canadian firms Bennett Jones and McCarthy Tetrault.

Currently licensed to practice law in Texas, Brownlee is not yet licensed in the state of Washington, but is presently pursuing bar admittance from the Washington State Bar. She received her LL.B. from the University of Manitoba in 1991.

Cozen O'Connor Ranks 5th on 2006 AmLaw Summer Associate Survey
Cozen O'Connor, an AmLaw top-100 law firm with more than 500 lawyers in 23 offices, ranked as the No. 5 best place for summer associates to work in the country in the American Lawyer Media 2006 Summer Associate Survey. Last year, the firm ranked No. 11.

“This accomplishment is the result of the hard work and efforts of everyone at the firm, especially our program coordinators, writing mentors and social mentors who ensured that our students enjoyed their summer experience.” said president and CEO of Cozen O’Connor Patrick J. O’Connor. “These results confirm that we are making a positive influence on our summer associates,” said O’Connor.

"We are truly thrilled that we made the list,” said managing partner of Cozen O’Connor John J. Cunningham. “It’s meaningful because our summer associates’ commentaries were the determining factors in our successful placement,” said Cunningham.

The American Lawyer conducted this survey from early June to mid-August. Nationally, nearly 7000 members of the classes of 2007 and 2008 took the survey, in which they rated their recent summer experiences based on a range of criteria, including workload and firm culture. Scores for each firm were determined by the average of the responses to nine job satisfaction questions. Cozen O’Connor’s summer associates gave the firm high marks when asked about the firm as an overall place to work and about the amount of “real” work assigned. Recent Cozen summer associates also ranked the firm highly with regard to training and guidance, attorney interaction, opportunities for pro bono work, size, and “family-friendliness.
