Ellis Lawhorne adds two attorneys
Ellis Lawhorne & Sims, P.A., Attorneys At Law, has announced that Jenkins Mann and Knowlton “Rip” Sanders have joined the full-service law firm.

Mann is the newest member of the Firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group. Mann earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Law in 2006. He is a 2002 graduate of USC, with a B.A. in English. Mann will focus his practice on litigation matters involving local, regional and national companies as well an individuals.

Sanders is part of Ellis Lawhorne’s Business, Real Estate and Finance Practice Group. A 1993 graduate of Clemson University, Sanders earned his Juris Doctor from the USC School of Law in 2006. His practice will concentrate on the areas of commercial real estate and corporate transactions. He will assist companies and individuals with general corporate matters and business transactions.

Commenting on the Firm’s new associates, Ellis Lawhorne Managing Shareholder Bill McElveen said the two attorneys bring valuable practical business experience to the Firm. “We are very pleased to have attorneys of Jenkins’ and Rip’s caliber join us in two high-growth practice groups within the Firm: Litigation and Dispute Resolution; and Business, Real Estate and Finance. Both men have experience running successful companies prior to law school, which gives them a practical perspective and first hand business acumen. Both will be assets to the Firm and our clients.”

Ellis Lawhorne’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group includes 15 attorneys. Its Business, Real Estate and Finance Practice Group has seven attorneys.

Rogers Selected For Admission to Leadership Columbia
Christian L. Rogers, an associate with Ellis Lawhorne, recently was selected for admission to Leadership Columbia.

Rogers is the sixth member of the firm to attend Leadership Columbia. J. Lyles Glenn IV as well as lawyers Jack Pringle, Rob Bethea, Erin Cook Owen and Matt Hill are alumni of the program.

Leadership Columbia, sponsored by the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, provides existing and emerging leaders with opportunities to enhance their civic knowledge and civic network. For over 30 years, this program has helped participants better understand how the community works, build relationships with the region’s current and future leaders and become inspired to focus talents in a way that will best serve the community.

Jonathan Lee Joins the Ellis Lawhorne Trusts & Estates Practice Group
Jonathan P. Lee recently joined the Ellis Lawhorne Trusts and Estates Practice Group.

Lee earned a Master of Laws in Estate Planning from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Florida. In 2005, he received a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Lee received his B.S. cum laude in Business Economics and Management from the University of South Carolina Moore School of Business in 2002.

"We believe Jonathan will add value to the service we provide our clients," said David Sojourner, a member of the Ellis Lawhorne Trusts and Estates Practice Group. "His addition to our talented team gives us added strength in helping clients negotiate the difficult legal issues surrounding probate."

The Trusts and Estates Practice Group includes Lee, Sojourner, Rita Bragg Cullum, Erin Cook Owen, Karen Hudson Thomas, Robert P. Bethea Jr. and Christian L. Rogers.

Connolly Bove Continues A Tradition Of Service To Federal And State Courts
Kevin F. Brady, a partner in the Wilmington, Delaware Office of Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz LLP, received the prestigious Andrew D. Christie Pro Bono Publico Award on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. The award, given by the Delaware Supreme Court and presented by Justice Carolyn Berger, was established in 1997 and recognizes individuals who have provided exceptional service to the Supreme Court of Delaware in its regulation of the Delaware Bar and the practice of law. Through the years, Kevin F. Brady has been an active part of Delaware Law with many memberships and associations including the Delaware Board of Bar Examiners of the Delaware Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, and a founder of the Richard S. Rodney Inn of Court. Most recently, Kevin F. Brady is serving as Ombudsman for the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware and has previously served as a Judicial Law Clerk to The Honorable James L. Latchum, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court, District of Delaware between 1983 and 1985.

Kevin F. Brady joins a large number of Connolly Bove attorneys who have served the courts in a variety of positions for more than thirty years. Three members of Connolly Bove have received the Delaware District Court's Caleb R. Layton, III Award, an annual award given to individuals who personify the qualities of a Federal Practioner, Legal Acumen, Professional Decorum and Public Service. Paul E. Crawford received this award in 2001, Arthur G. Connolly, Jr., past president of the Delaware State Bar Association, received this award in 2004 and Collins J. Seitz, current President of the Board of Bar Examiners of the State of Delaware, received the award in 2004.

In 2002, the United States District Court for the District of Delaware also appointed Collins J. Seitz as Special Master for pre-trial proceedings in the largest securities class action filed in Delaware, In re DaimlerChrysler Securities Litigation. Collins J. Seitz was selected by the Delaware District Court judges as one of four members of the District of Delaware's panel of Special Masters for intellectual property litigation discovery disputes.

Between 1975 and 1980, three Connolly Bove attorneys served the Superior Court of Delaware as Judicial Law Clerks; Henry E. Gallagher, Jr. (1975 - 1976), Edward F. Eaton (1975 - 1976) and Jeffrey B. Bove (1979 - 1980).

From 1980 to 1988, N. Richard Powers was the United States Magistrate-Judge for the District of Delaware, and had also previously clerked for Judge Latchum.

Between 1986 and 1987, Matthew F. Boyer served as a Judicial Law Clerk to The Honorable Andrew D. Christie, Chief Justice, Delaware Supreme Court.

Between 1997 and 1998, Eric J. Evain served as a Judicial Law Clerk to The Honorable Joseph T. Walsh of the State of Delaware, Supreme Court.

In 1988, Arthur G. Connolly III served as a Law Clerk for the Delaware Court of Chancery.

Between 1995 and 1997, Manuel C. Nelson served as a Judicial Law Clerk to The Honorable John T. Elfvin, Senior Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York.

In 1997, Christos T. Adamopoulos served as a Law Clerk in the U.S. District Court of Baltimore, Maryland.

In 1998, Daniel C. Mulveny served as a Judicial Law Clerk to The Honorable Thomas J. Rueter, United States Magistrate Judge of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

In 1999, Helena C. Rychlicki served as a Judicial Law Clerk to The Honorable Randy J. Holland of the State of Delaware, Supreme Court.

Between 1999 and 2000, Max B. Walton served as a Judicial Law Clerk to The Honorable William T. Quillen of the Superior Court of the State of Delaware after previously serving as a Judicial Intern in the same office between 1998 and 1999.

Between 2003 and 2004, Jaclyn M. Mason served as a Judicial Law Clerk to The Honorable Kent A. Jordan at the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.

Between 2004 and 2005, Ryan P. Newell served as a Judicial Law Clerk to The Honorable Kevin A. Hess, Cumberland County Court of Common Pleas.

Between 2005 and 2006, Josiah R. Wolcott served as a Judicial Law Clerk for The Honorable Richard R. Cooch, Superior Court of Delaware.

Nissen joins Ellis Lawhorne Litigation Team
Genevieve A. Nissen recently joined Ellis Lawhorne as an associate, offering clients counsel in construction litigation.

Previous to joining Ellis Lawhorne, Genevieve served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jasper M. Cureton with the South Carolina Court of Appeals and was a staff attorney to the South Carolina Court of Appeals. In addition, she served as a law clerk for The Honorable Steven H. John in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit.

After earning a bachelors and masters in English from Louisiana Tech University, Genevieve earned her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She is a member of the South Carolina Bar and serves on the Law Related Education Committee, the Pro Bono Committee and the Young Lawyers Division. She is also a member of the South Carolina Women’s Lawyer’s Association.

She has been recognized for her work with the Star of the Quarter Award from the South Carolina Bar and received the Volunteer Service Award from the Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands.
