John Hueston Named By Fortune Magazine as Person Who Shaped the Business World in 2006; Also Named to List of California's Top 100 Lawyers
John C. Hueston, who recently joined Irell & Manella LLP as a partner, has been selected by Fortune Magazine as one of 25 men and women who shaped the business world in 2006. He was recognized for his role as lead prosecutor with the Enron Task Force. John was also recently named as one of the top 100 lawyers in California by the Daily Journal. Morgan Chu, another Irell partner and chair of the firm's litigation group, is also on the Daily Journal's top 100 list.

Irell managing partner David Siegel said of Mr. Hueston's decision to join Irell: "John’s stellar performance in the Enron trial was widely reported and properly admired. But even before that, he was recognized as one of the best trial lawyers in the Justice Department. He will add even more depth to an already deep and growing bench of leading trial lawyers at Irell. Given his background, we also expect him to be active in any area of ‘bet-your-company’ litigation and in the rapidly growing corporate internal investigations field."

Mr. Chu, a prominent trial lawyer in his own right, commented on Mr. Hueston's trial experience: "John is one of the top trial lawyers in the nation. He has demonstrated this throughout his career and most recently as one of the lead counsel for the Department of Justice in United States v. Skilling and Lay."

Mr. Hueston joins six other former federal prosecutors at Irell: Brian Hennigan, Richard Kendall, Layn Phillips, Martin Gelfand, Christine Byrd and David Nimmer.

During his 12-year tenure with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Hueston was presented with four awards by each of the last three U.S. Attorneys General for his trial work. He is widely noted for having never lost a case or even a single count in any of his trials. And his work on the Enron Task Force is widely credited with having sealed the government’s criminal cases against major defendants Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling.

Mr. Hueston also received a special award from the U.S. Army for his work in U.S. v. Moran. He was named a "Top 20 under 40" pick by The Los Angeles Daily Journal, and one of the Daily Journal’s choices for California’s Top 100 leading lawyers.

Mr. Hueston is an Adjunct Professor at Chapman University School of Law. He was a law clerk for the Honorable Frank M. Johnson, Jr. of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Hueston is a magna cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College (1986) and a graduate of Yale Law School (1991), where he was a Notes Editor for the Yale Law Journal.
