JOHNSON & CONDON PARTNERS PRESENT AT 2006 STATE DISTRICT COURT JUDGES’ ASSOCIATION SYMPOSIUM
Johnson & Condon Partners Shamus O’Meara and Dale Thornsjo recently lead an engaging and lively discussion on MANAGING THE IMPERFECT STORM: Mold and Indoor Air Quality, at the annual Minnesota State District Court Judges’ Association Symposium held at Madden’s in Brainerd. O’Meara and Thornsjo frequently present, both locally and nationally, on mold and indoor air quality, and the construction, medical and practical issues parties face in these cases. Their comments to the Judges focused on insights which would be most helpful to the judiciary when faced with these cases, and promoted an opportunity for the Judges to roundtable common concerns about mold and water intrusion cases being filed across the state. The spirited and enthusiastic discussion with the attendees proved once again that our state’s judiciary is highly qualified and conscientious in attending to every type of case it faces.

Johnson & Condon Partners in Groundbreaking Digital Imaging Project for People With Developmental Disabilities
Johnson & Condon is partnering with St. Paul's Midway Training Services on a digital imaging project initiated by the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities, chaired by Shamus O'Meara, a partner at the firm. The project involves hiring people with developmental disabilities to digitally scan our firm's paper files to create searchable, lasting electronic records while eliminating thousands of dollars in storage costs. This partnership provides people with developmental disabilities quality jobs and wages, and helps us meet our technological needs by integrating an efficient and uniform electronic document storage and retrieval system.

Deb Cramer, our firm's office manager, commented on the project: "Like many law firms we have thousands of documents in storage accumulated over the years. We were interested in a system that could significantly reduce our storage costs and still provide accessible, protected information when needed. Our participation in digital imaging through Midway Training and the Governor's Council, where people with developmental disabilities do the work, is meeting these needs and providing a great experience for us."

This experience is important to us, and to others. Former U.S. Senator Dave Durenberger, co-author of the Americans with Disabilities Act, strongly advocates for this kind of partnering: “Digital imaging dramatically increases employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. It is an excellent example of public-private partnering to improve the lives and health of our communities, and should be a model for inclusion in our nation’s workforce.
