Firm Adds 2 Attorneys to Highly Regarded Litigation Group
Newmeyer & Dillion LLP, a prominent business and real estate-law firm, has added two attorneys in its Northern California office, located in Walnut Creek. Peter M. Geckeler and Kyle A. Lewis join the firm as associates in the highly regarded litigation group, where they will concentrate on civil litigation, primarily involving construction and insurance matters.

“We are pleased to welcome Kyle and Peter to our litigation team,” said Jan Gruen, managing partner in Walnut Creek. “Their expertise will further enhance our capabilities to serve our growing list of clients in Northern California.” Prior to joining Newmeyer & Dillion, Lewis was a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Captain. He was deployed to Iraq where he advised on various legal issues. While in the Marine Corps, Lewis earned the Purple Heart Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Lewis obtained his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law, where he was inducted into Phi Delta Phi, the international legal honors society. Peter Geckeler focuses on the representation of homebuilders in complex construction defect litigation. He also has litigated catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death suits, and represents corporate policyholders in disputes with insurers.

He has also served as a political consultant and strategist. Geckeler received his Juris Doctor from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, where he was a recipient of the Hon. Rodney J. Weiss Scholar in Law Scholarship, and served as an associate editor of the Washington University Journal of Urban and Contemporary Law. During law school, he served as an extern clerk to Judge Theodore McMillian of the Eight Circuit Court of appeals. Geckeler earned his undergraduate degree in history from Oberlin (Ohio) College.

Maria L.H. Lewis, Daniel J. McGravey, Michael A. Morse and Kevin E. Raphael Selected as Super Lawyers Rising Stars for 2006
In the 2006 Super Lawyers Rising Stars listing, Maria L.H. Lewis was selected in the area of Employment Litigation. Daniel J. McGravey, Michael A. Morse and Kevin E. Raphael were selected in the area of White Collar Criminal Defense.

The attorneys who receive the honor of Super Lawyers Rising Stars are chosen through Law & Politics Magazine's rigorous, multi-step selection process which evaluates quality objectively and then verifies the data collected. The first step in this process is the creation of a candidate pool: ballots are mailed to all Pennsylvania lawyers, who then in turn nominate the best up-and-coming lawyers that they have observed in action as candidates. Step two of this process is the evaluation of the nominated candidates, for which the Law & Politics research department evaluates the background and experience of the candidates by examining various criteria. Finally, only 2.5% of the total lawyers in Pennsylvania are selected to be listed as Rising Stars.
