Downey Brand adds two new associates
Annie Amaral and Danielle Stephens join Sacramento's largest law firm as associate attorneys.

Amaral joins the firm's litigation practice group. She received her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2005 and her B.A. from California State University, Sacramento in 2001. Prior to joining Downey Brand, Amaral was a law clerk to District Judge Garland E. Burrell, Jr. of the United States District Court, Eastern District of California.

Danielle Stephens joins the firm's real estate practice group. She received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2004 and her B.A. from Santa Clara University in 2002. Prior to joining Downey Brand, Stephens was an associate with Boutin Dentino Gibson Di Giusto Hodell Inc.

Woodcock Washburn Elects Three Attorneys as Partner
The national intellectual property law firm Woodcock Washburn LLP is pleased to announce it has elected three new partners to the Firm: Michael K. Jones, Vincent J. Roccia, and Andrew T. Serafini, Ph.D. Michael K. Jones specializes in patent prosecution, litigation, client counseling and strategic planning in a wide range of technologies.

Jones is a strategic thinker who enjoys working with clients to learn about their business in order to develop and implement processes and systems that allow clients to fully leverage their intellectual property in order to drive value, outmaneuver the competition, and stimulate innovation. Prior to joining Woodcock Washburn, Jones worked as a senior engineer and program manager for more than 10 years with the Naval Surface Warfare Center – Ship Systems Engineering Station. He received his J.D. from utgers School of Law, and his B.S. in Marine Engineering Systems & Mechanical Engineering with honors, from the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Vincent J. Roccia specializes in patent prosecution and client counseling. His practice focuses mainly on medical devices, telecommunications and computer software. In addition, Roccia works closely with startups and medium-sized companies. He formerly spent 12 years as a senior electrical engineer for the U.S. Department of Defense. Roccia received his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law with honors, and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University.

Andrew T. Serafini, Ph.D, provides biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and other life sciences clients with strategic and comprehensive intellectual property counseling and management to enable them to obtain, protect and enforce their intellectual property rights. In addition, Serafini works closely with the venture capital community to help build market-leading companies in the life sciences, and he works closely with public and private universities and research institutions to help protect, leverage and commercialize their technology assets and innovations.

He received his J.D. from University of California Hastings College of the Law, his Ph.D. in Immunology from Stanford University School of Medicine, and his B.S. in Biochemistry with honors, from Case Western Reserve University.

Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., Announces New Shareholders
Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., a leading Twin Cities law firm, formally announces 5 new shareholders and 2 new managing associates. David M. Aafedt, Christopher A. Camardello, Brian W. Kensicki, Joy S. Newborg, and Michael T. Olsen were previously associates with the firm and have been named shareholders. In addition, Justice Ericson Lindell and William A. McNab have been named managing associates with the firm.

David M. Aafedt’s practice focuses on the areas of Business and Commercial Litigation, Legislative and Regulatory, Insurance and Financial Services, Licensed Professionals, Energy and Telecommunications. David joined the firm after practicing at the Minnesota Attorney General’s office for six years.

Christopher A. Camardello represents secured and unsecured creditors in the areas of banking litigation, bankruptcy, foreclosures, liquidations and Article 9 transactions. He has also served as an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law.

Brian W. Kensicki focuses his practice in business and general corporate law, representing clients in acquisitions, dispositions, financing, formation and leasing agreements. He also represents clients in connection with software and hardware licenses, software development agreements, distribution agreements and strategic alliances.

Joy S. Newborg’s practice centers on the areas of corporate finance and securities law, including public and private equity and debt financings, SEC regulatory compliance for reporting companies, corporate governance, broker-dealer and investment adviser regulation and mergers and acquisitions. Joy joined Winthrop & Weinstine in 1999.

Michael T. Olsen counsels clients in the areas of intellectual property, including patent, software, and technology licensing. His practice also includes both domestic and International trademark prosecution and disputes before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Michael joined Winthrop & Weinstine in 2003.

Named as Managing Associates, Justice Ericson Lindell and William A. McNab both practice in the areas of business and commercial litigation. Justice has represented clients in the areas of intellectual property, employment law and Indian law, and Bill brings significant business management and entrepreneurial experience to his diverse business litigation practice.

WK&G's Susan Lehr and Lisa Wiese Named Members
As of January 1, 2007, Seattle Of Counsel Susan Lehr and Lisa Wiese have been named Members.

Ms. Lehr's practice focuses on representing clients in the areas of real estate, securities, business transactions, tax, and corporate law with an emphasis in general business and real property development. She has worked on complex, mixed-use projects, providing innovative structuring which has resulted in maximal flexibility for financing and liability limitation, while preserving developer control and favorable tax treatment. Her real estate projects include residential and commercial developments, financings, leasing and condominiums. Ms. Lehr has also organized and closed complex business transactions including venture capital, private placement and institutional financings, mergers, and acquisitions. Additionally, she has represented international clients in transnational business planning and transactions including private and public offerings.

Ms. Wiese has a wide range of experience in tort and commercial litigation, with a primary focus in consumer product liability, food products, toxic tort, premises liability, medical malpractice and insurance defense. She has substantial litigation experience, including pre-litigation risk evaluation, motions practice, pleadings, written discovery, alternative dispute resolution, and settlement negotiations. Ms. Wiese has tried personal injury cases for both plaintiffs and defendants, and has defended clients in administrative proceedings.
