Marc Gerson Rejoins Miller & Chevalier
Miller & Chevalier Chartered today announced that Marc J. Gerson has joined the Tax Department and the Tax Legislative Practice of the Government Affairs Department as a Member. Gerson recently served as Majority Tax Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways & Means in the 109th Congress.

"We are thrilled that Marc is returning to Miller & Chevalier, bringing with him the substantial legislative tax experience he gained while at the Committee on Ways & Means," said Lawrence B. Gibbs, former IRS Commissioner and Member of Miller & Chevalier's Tax Department. "Marc's unique combination of government, corporate and private practice experience will greatly enhance the existing capabilities that we offer our clients."

Gerson's arrival is the latest step in Miller & Chevalier's strategy to establish a leading bipartisan Government Affairs practice with the ultimate goal of covering the three main areas of jurisdiction within the House Ways & Means and Senate Finance Committees - International Trade, Tax and Healthcare/Employee Benefits.

The announcement follows the addition of leading trade litigator and trade policy practitioner John Magnus who joined the firm in November. Both additions exemplify the strategic expansion of Miller & Chevalier's Government Affairs Department and the growing synergy between its tax legislative and trade policy practices - an intersection where the firm is ideally positioned to provide practical solutions to its clients.

Enhancing A Preeminent Tax Practice

"Marc has a unique understanding of the tax legislative process and is highly regarded in legislative and legal circles," said Greg Mastel, former Chief of Staff to incoming Finance Committee Chair Max Baucus (D-MT) and Chair of Miller & Chevalier's Government Affairs Department. "Because many of the issues our clients care about are addressed and resolved at the Congressional level, Marc's legislative experience, combined with our technical expertise on the tax side, will enhance our ability to deliver creative and effective solutions for our clients."

Miller & Chevalier was founded 86 years ago as one of the first tax practices in the United States after the initial income tax was passed. Focused largely on corporate tax issues, the practice spans business transactions and reorganizations, employee benefits, international tax, tax accounting, financial products, tax litigation and tax policy. The firm's tax attorneys have deep credentials in all three branches of government and related federal agencies, and include a former IRS Commissioner; a former Tax Legislative Counsel of the U.S. Department of the Treasury; a former Chief Economist of the Senate Finance Committee; a former Democratic Counsel of the Senate Finance Committee; and a former Associate International Tax Counsel of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, among numerous others.

According to Gerson, the quality and sophistication of Miller & Chevalier's Tax Department played a key role in his decision to rejoin the firm. "Miller & Chevalier has a long history of offering its clients some of the finest tax attorneys in the country," said Gerson. "The technical depth and breadth of the firm's Tax Department complements what I hope to bring to the table from a tax legislative point of view. I look forward to leveraging my Congressional experience to help clients navigate a variety of complex matters.
