Arent Fox Announces 16 Promotions
Arent Fox LLP—a full-service law firm with offices in Washington, DC, New York City and Los Angeles—has announced promotions of 16 lawyers at the firm.

The following promotions were effective January 1, 2007:

Janine Carlan of the Litigation Group has become a partner. Carlan is a Registered US Patent Attorney and concentrates in resolution of intellectual property disputes. She has extensive experience in litigating intellectual property matters throughout the United States involving a wide range of legal issues and technologies.

James R. Davis, II of the Intellectual Property Group has become a partner. Davis focuses on the protection of clients’ intellectual property from infringement on the Internet. He also spends a significant amount of time prosecuting international trademark portfolios as well as protecting and policing clients' marks from infringers and counterfeiters.

Lisa Estrada of the Litigation Group has become a partner. Estrada focuses her practice on complex civil litigation in the areas of health care, government contracts and securities law. In her litigation practice, she represents clients in government enforcement actions and investigations, including both civil and criminal investigations initiated by the US Department of Justice, US attorneys’ offices, state attorneys general and state Medicaid Fraud Control Units.

Suzy Chan Hung of the Immigration Group has become a counsel. Hung’s practice focuses on employment and family-based immigration, non-immigrant visas, and naturalization and citizenship. She also counsels U.S. and foreign companies in matters relating to employer’s legal obligations under immigration law, including I-9 compliance. She has represented clients in various industries, including automobile manufacturing, engineering, healthcare, hotel, information technology, legal, management consulting, educational and financial institutions.

Mindy Hurwitz of the Business Transactions Group has become a partner. Hurwitz’s practice includes acquisitions and sales, financing, real estate development, commercial office and retail leasing and related corporate and partnership issues. She has represented clients in a variety of commercial real estate and general business transactions since joining Arent Fox in January 1997. She has extensive experience with national rollout development and with representing clients in the hospitality industry.

Mark Lunn of the International Group has become partner. Lunn practices primarily in the areas of international trade regulation and trade policy, including representing clients in antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings before the US Department of Commerce and International Trade Commission. He also works on market access issues and litigation before the World Trade Organization.

Keith Marino of the International Group has become a partner. Marino focuses on international trade litigation and policy, intellectual property litigation, and customs law. He represents major corporations, governments, and associations in trade relief matters arising under the international trade and customs laws of the United States, the WTO Agreements, and the NAFTA. Keith also has significant experience in handling matters before the Office of the US Trade Representative and Section 337 intellectual property cases before the US International Trade Commission. Keith has provided counsel to foreign and domestic clients covering a wide range of industries including: processed agricultural products (sugar), manufactured goods (automobiles, bearings, munitions, industrial presses, and steel), softwood lumber, semiconductors, telecommunications, medical devices, and luxury cruise vessels.

Jennifer Myron Donohue of the Intellectual Property Group has become a partner. She specializes in transactions related to protection and exploitation of intellectual property rights with a special focus on multimedia and entertainment industry clients. Her practice includes representing motion picture studios, television networks, technology developers, fashion designers and various consumer product retailers in negotiations involving content and technology acquisition, licensing and sponsorship deals, and production and distribution agreements. She also supervises global trademark and copyright portfolios for several companies and provides advice concerning brand management strategies.

Nancy Noonan of the International Group has become a partner. Noonan’s practice focuses on proceedings under the international trade and customs laws of the United States. She has represented a wide variety of clients in antidumping, countervailing duty, and Section 201 proceedings. Noonan’s clients have included a major steel company, a provincial government in Canada, several trade associations and manufacturers ranging from softwood lumber to salmon to bedroom furniture.

Elizabeth Pierce of the Finance Group has become a counsel. Pierce’s practice focuses on representing nonprofit borrowers in tax-exempt financing transactions and both borrowers and lenders in conventional and securitized financing transactions. Her background includes extensive representation of nonprofit corporations in general corporate and financing matters, including the issuance of tax-exempt debt. More recently, her practice has evolved to include a focus on the delivery of nonconsolidation opinions in securitized financing transactions.

Paul Rudolf, MD, of the Health Care Group has become a partner. Rudolf has significant experience in both Medicare and FDA legal, regulatory and policy issues, particularly as they relate to counterfeit drugs and radiofrequency identification technology as applied to pharmaceuticals and medical devices. He also is a recognized expert on coverage, coding and reimbursement issues for hospital and physician payment systems under the Medicare payment systems.

Jeffrey Rummel of the Telecommunications Group has become partner. Rummel represents telecommunications service providers, government contractors, equipment manufacturers and users of telecommunications services in a variety of transactional, regulatory and contested proceedings before the FCC, state public utility commissions and state and federal courts. He specializes in handling licensing/certification matters, license transfers in the context of mergers and acquisitions, and the unique regulatory requirements applicable to manufacturers of homeland security and military-related RF systems, as well as other high tech applications. He has represented the telecommunications-related interests of companies in many different areas, including the defense, mining, hospitality, automotive, chemical, food service and music industries.

Beata Salamon Glover of the Finance Group has become a counsel. Salamon’s principal areas of activity include real estate acquisition and finance, corporate acquisition and finance, asset-based secured financing, corporate reorganization, venture capital financing and general business law.

Don M. Tellock of the Litigation Group has become partner. Tellock focuses his practice on privacy, government investigations, advertising, data protection and litigation issues. He counsels companies in all aspects of conducting business over the internet and represents companies in government investigations, complex commercial litigation, and consumer related litigation.

Eugene Tibbs of the Real Estate Group has become a counsel. Tibbs has extensive experience in commercial leasing, formation of business entities, secured transactions, commercial lending, land use issues, municipal law and developer-related issues including site acquisition, financing and development. He has extensive transactional experience in both portfolio and single-asset acquisitions and dispositions of commercial and multifamily properties and mortgage loans secured by such properties.

Eleanor Zappone of the Real Estate Group has become partner. Zappone practices primarily in the areas of general real estate and real estate finance. She has assisted clients in the purchase and sale of commercial properties, both locally and nationally. She has also been involved in financings and refinancings for such properties as well as construction loans. In the leasing area, Zappone has represented landlords on office leases, particularly nonprofits with additional space in their buildings.

Snell & Wilmer Elects New Partners
Snell & Wilmer announces the election of its new partners for 2007. Kamie F. Brown and Wade Budge were elected to partner in the firm’s Salt Lake City office. In total, the firm named 14 partners in its various offices this year.

Kamie F. Brown concentrates her practice in the areas of product liability defense and commercial litigation, where she represents manufacturers in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, aircraft, watercraft, asbestos, ATVs, motorcycles, and automobiles. She graduated magna cum laude from J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University where she was Order of the Coif and Lead Note and Comment Editor of the Brigham Young University Law Review. Ms. Brown is a member of the Utah State Bar, American Bar Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Defense Research Institute, and the A. Sherman Christensen American Inn of Court. Wade Budge's practice is concentrated in a broad range of land use and regulatory matters including zoning, real estate and natural resource litigation, telecommunications, construction and environmental law. He represents developers, lenders and property owners and also advises natural resource developers and public lands users on laws regulating exploration, development and transportation of minerals, including oil, gas and coal. SNELL & WILMER ELECTS NEW PARTNERS AND SENIOR ATTORNEY
Snell & Wilmer announced the election of 14 new partners and one senior attorney today. John Baird, David Caplan, Robert Feinberg, Matt Fischer, Josh Grabel, Monica Limon- Wynn, Cindy Pillote, Joseph Viola, and Josh Woodard were elected partner, and Denise Atwood was elected senior attorney in the firm’s Phoenix office. Kamie Brown and Wade Budge were elected partner in Salt Lake City; Janet Hickson and Mark Ziebell were elected in Orange County, and Mandy Shavinksy was elected in Las Vegas. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, John Baird concentrates his practice in the area of real estate transactions, including work on behalf of sellers, buyers, landlords, tenants and investors in a wide variety of transactions involving retail, commercial, residential and mixed-use rojects; municipal development agreements; resort hotels and golf course developments; purchase, sale, option, and development transactions involving large tracts of land; agricultural and ranch land; condemnation matters; commercial leasing; title examinations and insurance; and multi-family and single-family developments. Baird earned his juris doctor from the University of Kansas.

He also earned a Masters of Science as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Old Dominion University. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, David Caplan is an intellectual property attorney. He is licensed in Arizona and Maryland and his practice is concentrated in intellectual property law. Specifically in the fields of strategic counseling in the development of patent, copyright and trademark portfolios, handling of related multinational prosecution, clearance and due diligence activities, intellectual property infringement litigation, and negotiating licenses, technology acquisitions, and other business transactions in the United States and abroad. Technical experience includes computer hardware and software, computer systems, financial transaction related technologies, point of sale systems, encryption technologies, defense and aerospace applications, semiconductor manufacturing, and business methods.

Caplan earned his juris doctor from the University of Maryland and his Bachelor of Science from Carnegie-Mellon University. With a diversified, broad-based litigation and trial law practice, Robert Feinberg concentrates his practice in the areas of healthcare, construction and criminal defense. Born in New York, New York, Feinberg represents hospitals, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in malpractice and credentialing actions. He has lectured at medical malpractice and health law seminars in Arizona and around the country, and written manuals on the defense of malpractice cases, hospital corporate liability and institutional negligence. Feinberg is currently a member of the American Health Lawyer's Association, where he recently finished a four year term as Vice-Chair of the Healthcare Liability and Litigation Practice Group.

Feinberg also represents healthcare entities, construction professionals and others in matters involving criminal law, including Grand Jury subpoenas, search warrants, Attorney General and County Attorney investigations, and a wide variety of other areas. Feinberg was a former felony prosecutor prior to becoming a civil litigator. He earned his juris doctor from Arizona State University as well as his Bachelor of Arts degree from he University of Arizona. Born in Mesa, Arizona, Matt Fischer concentrates his practice in general commercial litigation with emphasis on business, contract, securities, real estate, and intellectual property litigation. Fischer has significant experience representing financial institutions, securities broker-dealers, investment advisory firms, mortgage banks and brokers, title and escrow companies, commercial and residential real estate developers, and companies in the telecommunications and technology sectors. In addition to state and federal civil trial courts, Fischer represents clients in alternative dispute resolution forums, such as the National Association of Securities Dealers and the American Arbitration Association, and before regulatory agencies, such as the Arizona Department of Real Estate and the Arizona Corporation Commission. Fischer is a graduate of Brophy College Preparatory, he earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame, and earned his juris doctor from the University of Arizona. Born Phoenix, Arizona, Monica Limon-Wynn has a practice concentrated in commercial litigation and media law. Litigation experience includes: representing businesses and professionals in various contract disputes, litigating non-compete covenants, and anti piracy and non-solicitation provisions, protecting trade secrets and confidential information, defending against defamation, misappropriation, and unfair competition, representing the broadcast media on a variety of issues, and representing businesses that have purchased failed or defective computer software. Limon- Wynn earned her juris doctor and Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University.

Born Marquette, Michigan, Cindy Pillote’s practice includes intellectual property counseling; patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution; related technology transfer; and licensing. Pillote has technical experience in, among other areas, medical devices and products, life sciences, semiconductors and semiconductor manufacturing, electronic commerce, mechanical devices, chemical processes and compounds, mining technology, and electronic communication. Pillote earned her juris doctor as well as her Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University.

Born Torrance, California, Joseph Viola is licensed in New York and Arizona, Mr. Viola’s practice concentrated in real estate transactions, including acquisition, disposition, construction, development and leasing. Mr. Viola’s transactions include vacant land, office, retail, industrial, education and mixed-use projects. He works with both public and private sector clients. Viola earned his juris doctor from New York University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame.

Licensed in Arizona, California and Nevada, Josh Woodard concentrates his practice in labor and employment law. He advises and represents employer/management clients before state and federal agencies, including the Arizona Civil Rights Commission, the California Department of Labor Standards Enforcement, the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the United States Department of Labor. Woodard has extensive litigation experience in both state and federal jurisdictions in wage and hour issues, misappropriation of trade secrets, non-competition/non-solicitation matters, wrongful termination, sexual harassment, discrimination, employment contracts, and related matters. Mark Ziebell’s legal practice is concentrated in mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and reporting compliance, and venture capital investments. His practice, in the Orange County office, represents clients from a broad range of industries including biopharmaceuticals, technology, manufacturing, retail, and franchising. Ziebell received his juris doctor degree in 1994 and his Bachelor of Arts in accounting in 1985 from the University of San Francisco. Mandy Shavinsky’s Las Vegas office practice is concentrated in real estate development and commercial transactions. Born in Las Vegas, Shavinsky earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada at Reno, and a juris doctorate from the Ohio State University College of Law with honors. She is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Nevada Clark County Bar Association and participated on the Business Law Section-Subcommittee to Improve the Nevada Common Interest wnership Act.

Litigation Attorney Leslie G. Fritscher Joins Ward and Smith, P.A.
Ward and Smith, P.A. is pleased to announce that Leslie G. Fritscher joined its Litigation Section on January 2, 2007. Ms. Fritscher, who will work from the firm's Greenville office, was the President of Fritscher Law Firm, P.A. in Raleigh, N.C. She brings to the firm five years of experience in family law. Ms. Fritscher's practice experience has encompassed separation disputes, child custody disputes, and equitable distributions. She has also served as Guardian of the Estate for minor children and incompetent adults, and has provided representation in a variety of guardianship cases.

Ms. Fritscher earned her J.D. from Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 2001 and her Bachelor of Social Work, magna cum laude, from North Carolina State University in 1996. Real Estate Attorney Kristie M. Ravert Joins Ward and Smith, P.A.
Ward and Smith, P.A. is pleased to announce that Kristie M. Ravert joined its Real Estate Section on January 2, 2007. Ms. Ravert, familiar with many aspects of commercial real estate, will assist in acquisitions of commercial properties and preparation of lender closing documents. She is experienced in evaluating existing leases, mortgage agreements, and business organizational documents for clients. Ms. Ravert routinely advises both lender and developer clients on purchase, sale, loan, and lease issues. She also is experienced in the drafting and review of conveyance, authority, title, survey, condominium, foreclosure, and other real estate documents.

Ms. Ravert received her J.D. from Ohio Northern University College of Law where she was involved with the Ohio Northern University Women's Law Journal and the Environmental Law Journal. She received her B.A. in Sociology, cum laude, from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania and was the co-founder of their Pre-law Society. RYAN PROSECUTOR JOINS LATHAM & WATKINS
Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Zachary T. Fardon has joined the firm's Chicago office as a partner in the Litigation Department, effective January 1, 2007.

Immediately prior to joining Latham, Fardon served as the First Assistant US Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee in Nashville where he was one of the lead attorneys from the US Department of Justice in the successful prosecution of former Illinois Governor George Ryan for corruption.

From 1997 to 2003 Fardon served as an Assistant US Attorney (AUSA) for the Northern District of Illinois and participated in "Operation Safe Road," an extensive investigation of corruption by public officials that led to the indictment of former Governor Ryan. While an AUSA, Fardon assisted in the successful prosecution of Scott Fawell, an aide to former Governor Ryan and Citizens for George Ryan, Ryan's campaign organization. The landmark trial was the first time that a campaign organization was convicted under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

In the Chicago office, Fardon joins several former Assistant United States Attorneys in the White Collar and Criminal Investigations Group. The group includes Bob Tarun, Sean Berkowitz and Deborah Steiner. Tarun, who concluded his decade of service with the US Attorney's Office in Chicago as Executive Assistant US Attorney, joined the firm as a partner in 2003. Berkowitz, the former Director of the US Department of Justice's Enron Task Force, became a partner at Latham in November. Steiner, who also served as the First Deputy Inspector General for the Illinois Inspector General, joined Latham in 2005.

"Zach is another outstanding addition to our firm," stated Stephen Bowen, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Chicago. "He is an accomplished lawyer whose talent and experience will further enhance Chicago's litigation practice and Latham's high profile national white collar practice."
