Serge O. Bechadè
Member of the Corporate, Tax, and Estate Planning and Probate Practice Groups

Serge focuses his practice in international and domestic corporate and partnership transactions and tax-related aspects of commercial transactions. He also focuses on Estate Planning for business owners. Serge received his J.D. from Northeastern University, his M.S. in Accounting and his M.B.A. from Northeastern University, and his B.A. from the University of Vermont.

Thomas M. Elcock
Member of the Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group

Tom’s practice is focused on appellate matters and in the arbitration and litigation of complex reinsurance, insurance, and commercial matters. He received his J.D. from Suffolk University and his B.A. from Denison University.

Kristin M. Knuuttila
Member of the Litigation Practice Group

Kristin specializes in defending self-insured companies and insurers in wrongful death and other catastrophic injury cases. She has over a decade of experience litigating before state and federal courts in Massachusetts. Kristin received her J.D. from Catholic University of America and her B.A. from Syracuse University.

David E. Plotkin
Member of the Media and Intellectual Property and Corporate Practice Groups

David represents media and high tech companies on a broad range of transactional, commercial and content matters. His practice includes licensing, internet law, trademarks, copyrights, First Amendment law and prepublication review. Thacher Proffitt Announces Three New Partners
Janet A. Barbiere, William J. Cullen, Stephen S. Kudenholdt, Bola O. Oloko, Paul D. Tvetenstrand

William “Butch” Cullen, Janet Barbiere, Bola Oloko Return to Thacher Proffitt After Ten Years

Thacher Proffitt announced today that William “Butch” Cullen, Janet Barbiere, and Bola Oloko have joined the Firm as partners. The group will practice in the Structured Finance Practice Group, residing in the New York office. All three partners join Thacher Proffitt from the New York office of Sidley Austin LLP, where they were partners. Prior to Sidley Austin, they each practiced at Thacher Proffitt.

“We proudly welcome Butch, Janet and Bola back to the Firm,” said Paul Tvetenstrand, Chairman and Managing Partner of Thacher Proffitt. “They each are experienced advisors in commercial mortgage-backed securities and we look forward to their ongoing successes here.”

“Commercial mortgage-backed securities are a very important segment of the securitization market, and Butch, Janet, and Bola add tremendously to the breadth of our existing structured finance practice,” said Steve Kudenholdt, Partner and Chair of Thacher Proffitt’s Structured Finance Practice Group. The practice has more than 125 attorneys that specialize in a range of transaction structures, as well as regulatory and compliance issues.

Mark A. Shapiro Joins Real Estate Department at Loeb & Loeb in New York
Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that Mark Shapiro has joined the New York office as a partner in the Real Estate Department. He was previously counsel at Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner LLP.

Shapiro's practice is focused on sophisticated transactions in office and retail leasing and subleasing on behalf of landlords and tenants; brokerage matters on behalf of landlords, tenants, and brokers; purchasers and sellers of vacant land and improved commercial and industrial properties; and lenders and borrowers in mortgage and construction. Shapiro rejoins the Commercial Real Estate Leasing Group led by Ray Sanseverino, who left Brown Raysman in August 2006 to lead that practice group at Loeb.

"Mark joins the firm at a time when our real estate practice is booming," said Michael Beck, Co-Chairman of Loeb & Loeb. "This past year we expanded our real estate practice with the additions of three partners and two associates from Brown Raysman and Mark is a valuable addition to our diverse and national team."

Shapiro received his bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1986 where he graduated cum laude. He earned his law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1994 where he graduated magna cum laude.

Four Holland & Knight Attorneys Recognized as Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Stars
Four lawyers from Holland & Knight LLP's Virginia office have been named Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Stars for 2007. Super Lawyers is a comprehensive and diverse guide to outstanding attorneys representing a wide range of practice areas, firm sizes and geographic locations.

Rising Stars recognizes the top 2.5 percent of up-and-coming lawyers in the state. Super Lawyers – the top 5 percent of lawyers in the state – vote for the best attorneys who are either 40 or under or who have been practicing 10 or fewer years. The Rising Stars lists include both private practice attorneys and attorneys in non-private practice areas such as prosecutors, in-house counsel, judges and public service lawyers.

Hogan & Hartson Elects 19 to Partnership and Appoints 10 as Counsel
