Nine Associates Become Baker & Daniels Partners
Nine associates at Baker & Daniels LLP became partners of the law firm on Jan. 1. At its annual fall meeting, the partnership voted to admit the following new partners:

* Maxwell N. Barnes, who practices in corporate finance and corporate transactional matters from the 96th Street office in Indianapolis. Barnes, who joined the firm in 2003, graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School after earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.

* Alison G. Fox, who practices in labor and employment law from the South Bend office. Fox, who joined the firm in 1999, earned her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law after receiving a bachelor's degree cum laude from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

* Norman J. Hedges, who practices in intellectual property protection from the Downtown Indianapolis office. Hedges, who joined the firm in 2004, graduated cum laude from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington and with highest distinction from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree.

* Jennett M. Hill, who practices in nonprofit law from the Downtown Indianapolis office. Hill, who joined the firm in 2001, earned her J.D. magna cum laude from the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis and B.A. from DePauw University.

* Jennifer Bickley Hull, who practices in labor and employment law from the South Bend office. Hull, who joined the firm in 2002, graduated cum laude from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and magna cum laude from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree.

* Jennifer L. Kremp, who practices in corporate finance and business planning from the 96th Street office in Indianapolis. Kremp, who joined the firm in 1994, graduated magna cum laude from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington and summa cum laude from Ball State University with a bachelor's degree.

* Michael D. Schwartz, who practices in intellectual property law from the Fort Wayne office. Schwartz, who joined the firm in 1999, earned his J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington and B.S. from Michigan State University.

* Christopher J. Spataro, who practices from the Elkhart office in labor and employment, creditors' rights and commercial litigation centering on recreational vehicle related issues. Spataro, who joined the firm in 2000, graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School after earning his bachelor's degree cum laude from New York University.

* Paul A. Wolfla, who practices in general litigation matters and complex business litigation from the Downtown Indianapolis office. Wolfla, who joined the firm in 2003, earned a J.D. from the Ohio State University College of Law, M.A. from the University of New Mexico and B.A. from Indiana University in Bloomington.

Jan Dodd Named One of "Litigation's Rising Stars"
Jan Dodd, Litigation partner in the Los Angeles office, was named one of "Litigation's Rising Stars" in the January issue of American Lawyer magazine. American Lawyer conducted an informal canvas of hundreds of lawyers to generate nominations and select litigators age 45 and under who have "worked relentlessly to get where they are" and who they "expect to see leading the field for years to come." Ms. Dodd was recognized for her key defense verdicts for client Novartis AG and for her "killer client skills" in landing a civil case representing Shell Oil Co.

Kaye Scholer represents RBS Greenwich Capital and Lehman Brothers in Broadway Real Estate Partners' $3.3B Beacon Capital Portfolio Acquisition
Kaye Scholer's real estate department represented RBS Greenwich Capital and Lehman Brothers in providing first mortgage and mezzanine financing to Broadway Real Estate Partners L.L.C. for Broadway Real Estate Partners L.L.C.'s $3.3 billion acquisition by merger of the building office portfolio of Beacon Capital Strategic Partners L.L.C. The transaction, totaling approximately 7 million square-feet of space, is one of the largest real estate transactions ever between private investors, included the John Hancock Tower in Boston, the Citigroup Center in downtown Los Angeles and 8 other buildings in Boston; Los Angeles; Washington, DC and Denver.

RBS Greenwich Capital and Lehman Brothers were represented by a Kaye Scholer team led by Steve Gliatta, Jeannie Bionda, Melissa Kurfist, John Bauco, Matthew Borah, Sarah Rapke and Aviva Grinbaum. Lauren Bernstein provided advice and assistance on corporate finance matters. Mel Cherney and William Lonergan provided advice and assistance on corporate matters. Kathleen Faccini provided assistance on employment matters.

Michael A. Weil Joins Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C.
Michael A. Weil has joined the Firm's Tax and Estate Planning Groups. Prior to joining Jaffe, Mr. Weil was an attorney with Bassey and Selesko PLC, a tax-oriented law firm located in Southfield, Michigan. While there, he provided business, estate and tax planning to individual and business clients, and also spoke frequently before accounting and insurance groups.

Preceding his tenure at Bassey and Selesko, Mr. Weil was a tax consultant for PrivewaterhouseCoopers LLP in both Detroit, Michigan and Columbus, Ohio.

In 1985, Mr. Weil earned his B.A., with high distinction, in business administration from the University of Michigan, and in 1988 his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.

He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Michigan Association of Certified Pubic Accountants, Financial and Estate Planning Council of Metropolitan Detroit and the American Bar Association.

Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C. Donates Toys, Necessities To Judson Center Residences
Southfield-based Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C., announced that it has donated computers, toys, good, clothing and other living essentials to the Judson Center, a nonprofit serving southeast Michigan children, adults with disabilities and families in crisis. The donation was part of the Firm's annual Spirit of Giving Campaign, which concentrated holiday philanthropy on a local nonprofit in need.

"We are overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness Jaffe has shown our organization," said Stephanie Paauwe, the Judson Center Development Officer-Annual Giving. "It's impossible to express what a world of difference these items will make for the kids in our residential homes."

"It is very rewarding for our Firm to be a part of something that enriches the community in this way," said Sue Robinson, Jaffe Marketing Coordinator. "The Judson Center is a terrific organization and it has been our privilege to work with its dedicated staff and amazing children."

Jaffe's four offices contributes to the annual Spirit of Giving Campaign, an internal philanthropy effort managed by a volunteer committee. Each Judson Center child submitted two gift requests, which were fulfilled through Firm donations. Remaining donations went toward the purchase of essential home products.

Judson Center's Residential Care Program provides an alternative home-like environment for children ages 9 through 17 whose emotional needs have not been met through family-based counseling. A multi-disciplinary team of professional care for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the children twenty-four hours a day. Jaffe's 2006 Spirit of Giving donation is, specifically, to meet the needs of the 31 children currently living in these three Judson Center residential units.

Clay B. Thomas Joins Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C.
Clay B. Thomas, has joined Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C., as an associate in the Firm's Real Estate Practice Group.

In 1997, Thomas earned his B.A., with honors, in classical studies from the University of Michigan and, in 2000, his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.

While attending law school, Thomas held the position of contributing editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law and served as an associate attorney for Detroit-based Dykema Gossett, PLLC. He received the Best Oralist Award from the University of Michigan Law School Practice Program

Mr. Thomas is a member of the State Bar of Michigan.

Salans advises Ascom Group on a $300million bond issue
Salans' London, New York and Almaty offices have recently advised Ascom Group, an international oil and gas producer on the raising of $300 million through a special purpose company, Tristan Oil. The purpose of the finance was to further the operations of Ascom in Kazakhstan. The notes are to be listed on the Luxembourg stock exchange.

Partners Jonathan Denton and Mark Wilson, assisted by Adam Jones, Dean Nash and Angela Mount advised on UK law and assisted on due diligence and verification. The team in New York which produced the offering circular, was led by partner Anthony Carroll and of counsel Robert Ebin, assisted by partner Nick Gatto and by associates Sahra Dalfen, Harriet Karanikolas and Istvan Hajdu. On the Kazakh law side, partners Abai Shaikenov, Aigoul Kenjebayeva and associate Madi Mukhametzhanov negotiated the Kazakh securities documents and provided the legal opinion.

Jonathan Denton commented: "This was a truly international deal which brought together all the skills set of Salans in 3 major jurisdictions.
