Porter Wright Expands White-Collar Crime Practice With Addition of Former Criminal Chief of the US Attorney's Office
Richard Chema, formerly the Criminal Chief of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Ohio and the Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress for Ohio's Third Congressional District in the Fall mid-term election, has become a partner at Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP. The announcement of his new position was jointly made by the Firm's Managing Partner, Robert "Buzz" Trafford, and the Partner-in-Charge of its Dayton office, Bruce Snyder.

Mr. Chema, who for the last 12 years has been an Assistant United States Attorney in Dayton, and since 2001 the head of all federal criminal prosecutions in southern Ohio, will expand Porter Wright's Ohio white-collar criminal practice for corporate and individual clients who are under investigation or pending charges by federal, state, and local authorities. Additionally, Mr. Chema will furnish proactive preventative counseling to help ensure compliance with governmental requirements, provide assistance with governmental requests in enforcement actions and conduct corporate in-house investigations. Mr. Chema will also assist the Firm's existing complex civil litigation and government contracts practices.

Perkins Coie Promotes 21 to Partner and Of Counsel
Perkins Coie announced that 21 attorneys from eight of its offices have been named partners and of counsel effective January 1, 2007.

Pennington Partner Selected As Speaker For ABA National Institute on Gaming Law
Marc Dunbar, Pennington Shareholder, has been selected as a speaker for the ABA National Institute on Gaming Law which will be held February 15-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Green Valley Ranch Resort & Spa. This program is presented by the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Section, the Section of Business Law Gaming Law Committee, and the ABA Center for Continuing Legal Education. The Gaming Law Minefield program constitutes one of the most comprehensive, state-of-the-law gaming programs available. Program attendees have consistently rated the program as a valuable educational experience that provides participants with the opportunity to meet and talk with a wide variety of gaming law experts and leading state and Native American regulators.

CLE Credit Available for Legal Project Management Lunch & Learn
Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit is available to attorneys participating in a free upcoming seminar on Legal Project Management. Customized for General Counsel and in-house attorneys, the seminar will provide an in-depth look at Legal Project Management as a means to complete legal matters on time and on budget, enhancing the communication, accountability and professionalism within the attorney-client relationship.

Topics include using project management in delivering legal services; increasing efficiency and controlling the cost of legal services; adopting and implementing Legal Project Management; improving internal and external communication; and providing transparency into the delivery of legal services. Case studies will show how Legal Project Management has been used in areas including litigation, mergers and acquisitions, private financing and IP/patent prosecutions.

The lunchtime seminar will be held Tuesday, January 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m.. The location will be the 18th floor or the Atlanta Financial Center in the offices of Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30326. Lunch will be served. There is no cost to attend.

Morris, Manning & Martin Attorney John Yates to Speak at 2007 Information Technology Law Institute
Technology attorney John Yates will speak at 2007 Information Technology Law Institute in New York March 8 and 9. The Institute is the most prominent technology law seminar for lawyers in the country, and Yates has been a featured speaker for over a decade. It is hosted by the Practising law Institute (PLI,) a leading provider of continuing legal education (CLE) credit.

The theme of the program is Systems Security, Record Retention and the Rise of Information Life Cycle Management. Yates will speak about “Due Diligence of Intellectual Property in Mergers and Acquisitions.”

“When one company merges with or acquires another, they inherit different policies and procedures for managing sensitive and critical data,” Yates says. “As attorneys guide their clients through these transactions, they should be aware that managing, and then integrating the data of the acquired company raises important intellectual property issues.”

The conference agenda also examines issues including spyware and pretexting; corporate document management and the need to change corporate culture; developing information security programs; data migration and regulatory compliance; trends in trade secret law; new e-discovery rules; Sarbanes Oxley and corporate governance compliance issues for data retention; and recent litigation.

Drzal Elected to Board of Charlottesville Venture Group
Michael P. Drzal has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Charlottesville Venture Group. The Charlottesville Venture Group was created in April 1998 to address the need for educating and promoting the Charlottesville entrepreneurial community in order to further enhance the intellectual, social, economic and human capital of our community, region and state.
