Attorneys David Conaway and Al Windle Selected as North Carolina "Legal Elite"
Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is pleased to announce that DAVID H. CONAWAY and STEELE B. (Al) WINDLE, III, partners in the Charlotte, North Carolina office, have both been recognized as a 2007 "Legal Elite" by Business North Carolina magazine.

This designation is based upon the results of a peer-review survey sent to all licensed North Carolina lawyers who were asked to vote for the best practitioners among 12 fields of law. Fewer than 4% of all North Carolina attorneys are awarded this honor.

Mr. Conaway’s principal areas of practice are bankruptcy, non-bankruptcy insolvencies or restructurings, workouts and commercial transactions.

Frederick Cohen to Serve as Moderator on “Deal or No Deal: Advanced Alimony” AAML Program
Frederick Cohen, Of Counsel with Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP, will serve as moderator for the upcoming American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Program, “Deal or No Deal: Advanced Alimony.” The program will be held on January 12, 2007 at the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey and is open to Pennsylvania Bar Association members.

Cohen is of counsel with Obermayer and is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and Family Law Group. Additionally, he is the Chief Support Master for the Court of Common Pleas of Montgomery County. Cohen’s practice is concentrated solely in the area of family law, where he has comprehensive knowledge of divorce, custody, marital agreements and support.

Cohen was recently named as one of Pennsylvania’s “Super Lawyers” in the June issue of Philadelphia Magazine and the Law and Politics Magazine, “Pennsylvania Super Lawyers 2006” edition. He is also listed as one of the Top 100 Philadelphia attorneys and Top 100 Pennsylvania attorneys in both issues. Cohen was also previously named in both the 2004 and 2005 editions.

Cohen is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White Inc., every edition) and Who’s Who in American Law. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Joint State Commission’s Advisory Committee on Domestic Relations Law, and a Certified Arbitrator of Matrimonial Disputes by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Cohen obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia (1957), and was awarded his LLB from University of Pennsylvania School of Law (1960). Prior to joining Obermayer in 1996, he was a partner with the Philadelphia law firm of Blank Rome Comisky & McCauley.

A frequent lecturer, Cohen is a faculty member and periodic lecturer at Statewide Judicial Conferences held by the College of the Judiciary. He is also a CLE adjunct faculty member in the Family Law Department at Temple University School of Law, and a CLE guest lecturer in the Family Law Department at Dickinson Law School. He has also lectured or presented family law courses for the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the Philadelphia Bench-Bar Conference Annual Conventions, the AAML Arbitration Committee and the American Law Institute of the American Bar Association.

Cohen is past chairman of the Family Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and a fellow with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He is a member of the Family Law Sections of the Montgomery County, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations. He was previously a member of the board of directors of the Domestic Relations Association of Pennsylvania. Other associations he has participated in include the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Domestic Relations Committee and the Philadelphia Family Court Division Rules Committee.

Cohen is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Obermayer is a full service regional law firm headquartered in Philadelphia with offices in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cherry Hill, New Jersey and Wilmington, Delaware.

Miller Johnson Elects Fallon and Karr to Management Committee
Jeffrey S. Ammon announced that William H. Fallon and Carol J. Karr have been elected to serve on Miller Johnson’s management committee. They join Craig H. Lubben, Craig A. Mutch and Mr. Ammon on the committee. The three-year terms began on Jan. 2, 2007.

William H. Fallon is a 1981 graduate of University of Michigan Law School, and serves as the chair of the firm’s employment and labor practice group. He is listed in “The Best Lawyers in America®” for labor and employment law.

Carol J. Karr earned her juris doctorate at Harvard Law School in 1978. She chairs the firm’s probate and estate planning practice group and is listed in “The Best Lawyers in America®” for trusts and estates. She has also been named a Michigan “Super Lawyer” and is on the Top 50 Women List.

Mr. Fallon and Ms. Karr replace Mary V. Bauman and Robert R. Stead who completed three year terms on the committee.

Matheson Ormsby Prentice Appoints Ten New Partners
Matheson Ormsby Prentice has announced the appointment of ten new partners reflecting the ongoing growth at the firm which earlier this year announced its intention to move to new and significantly expanded offices at Riverside IV, Sir Rogersons Quay in the new year.

The ten new partners are Fergus Bolster, Hilary Coveney, Katie da Gama, Christian Donagh, Bryan Dunne, Libby Garvey, Shane Hogan, Noreen Howard, Peter O'Brien and John O'Connor.

Five of the ten new partners previously worked with City of London firms. Katie da Gama was formerly with Hill Dickinson LLP, and Christian Donagh was with Lehman Brothers and Allen & Overy before he joined Matheson Ormsby Prentice. Libby Garvey worked with Weil Gotshal & Manges in London, Peter O'Brien was with Clifford Chance and John O'Connor previously worked with Simmons & Simmons.

Matheson Ormsby Prentice is the stand-out success story among Irish law firms over the last ten years. With more than 520 people, the firm doubled in size between 1992 and 1999 and doubled in size again between 1999 and 2006. This latest announcement means that over the last five years the firm has appointed over 45 new partners bringing the total number of partners to 71.

Matheson Ormsby Prentice advises on more Irish M&A transactions than any other law firm in 2006
For the second year running, Matheson Ormsby Prentice has been named the top Irish law firm, advising on the most Irish mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions in 2006. The rankings are generated by MergerMarket, the leading international financial publisher which compiles global M&A league tables.

According to MergerMarket, Matheson Ormsby Prentice advised on 34 Irish deals in 2006, to the value of €7.86 billion, topping the table in terms of volume, a key performance indicator.

In one of the largest transactions in recent years, Matheson Ormsby Prentice advised on the acquisition by the newly-formed Irish public limited company HM Rivergroup PLC of US publisher Houghton Mifflin and Riverdeep, valuing the combined group in excess of US$4.5 billion, the largest ever acquisition by an Irish company. The firm also advised Australian investment company Babcock & Brown Capital Limited on the €2.36 billion acquisition of eircom plc by it and the eircom employee share ownership trust.

Matheson Ormsby Prentice's clients include many of the current Fortune 500 companies and leading global organisations from all business sectors including banks, financial institutions and insurance companies.

SGR ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNERS
Smith, Gambrell & Russell announces the addition of 8 attorneys to its partnership.

The new partners are:

Hal Gill: Mr. Gill practices in the firm’s Real Estate section. Mr. Gill has experience in commercial real estate representing both developers and lending institutions. He also has an active hospitality practice in representing hotel owners and developers.

Keith Daw: Mr. Daw practices in SGR’s Environmental section out of its Jacksonville office. He has seventeen years of experience counseling clients in environmental matters.

Ann Murray: Ms. Murray practices in the firm’s Executive Compensation and ERISA/Employee Benefits practice area. She counsels clients on the design and administration of qualified and nonqualified plans, IRS and DOL matters, merger and acquisition issues, welfare benefits and executive compensation.

Scott Harty: Mr. Harty practices in the firm’s Tax section. His practice focuses on corporate and international tax matters which includes international corporate restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, and inbound and outbound tax planning.
