Porter & Hedges Lawyers Appointed to Leadership Positions in Several Professional & Civic Organizations
Porter & Hedges is pleased to announce the appointment of four lawyers to serve in leadership roles for various civic and professional organizations that include: The Texas Chapter of the March of Dimes; the Houston Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors Political Action Committee; the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Houston, Inc., and the 2007 Gala Committee of the Asian American Bar Association.

“Everyone at Porter & Hedges shares a desire to be actively involved in the Houston community,” said firm chairman Bill Porter. “These appointments are a reflection of our attorneys individual efforts to support valued organizations.”

Each lawyer appointed will service in the following capacities:

Gene Nettles, a partner in the litigation section of the Firm, has been elected as the Chairman of the Board for the Houston Division and a member of the Executive Committee of the Texas Chapter of the March of Dimes.

Jeff Elkin, a partner in the litigation section of the Firm, has been elected by the members of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Houston, Inc., (the BBB of Houston) to serve as Chairman.

Ben Westcott, an associate in the litigation section of the Firm, has been elected to serve as Vice Chairperson of the Houston Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors Political Action Committee.

Joyce Kao Soliman, an associate in the banking & finance section of the Firm, has been appointed as the Co-Chair of the 2007 Gala Committee of the Asian American Bar Association.

PHILLIPS LYTLE PARTNER JOHN G. SCHMIDT JR. RE-ELECTED TO LEADERSHIP BUFFALO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
John G. Schmidt Jr., a Partner with Phillips Lytle LLP, one of the region’s largest full service law firms, was re-elected to the Leadership Buffalo board of directors for a fourth term and elected to serve as Vice President of Programs. A member of the Leadership Buffalo Class of 2002, he most recently served as Treasurer. Nine Phillips Lytle attorneys are Leadership Buffalo graduates and the firm has been a Diamond Sponsor of Leadership Buffalo for several years. The mission of Leadership Buffalo is to unite and develop existing and emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds and perspectives in order to increase their knowledge of community issues, broaden vision and enhance individual and collective ability to lead.

At Phillips Lytle, Mr. Schmidt focuses his practice in the area of commercial litigation, employee disloyalty, technology law, computer forensics and class action defense. A member of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy and the New York and Erie County Bar Associations, he holds a J.D. from State University of New Jersey School of Law, Newark and a B.F.A from New York University. In addition, Mr. Schmidt serves on the executive committee for Boy Scouts of America Greater Niagara Frontier Council and pro bono legal counsel for Greater Buffalo Metropolitan Crime Stoppers, Inc. He also serves as a board member of the Erie County Republication Lawyer s Club. Mr. Schmidt is a frequent speaker on employee disloyalty, electronic discovery and legal ethics.

Oblon, Spivak Elects Four New Members and Elevates Six Attorneys to Senior Associate
Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, P.C. is pleased to announce that Edwin D. Garlepp, Kirsten A. Grüneberg, Ph.D., Barry J. Herman and Scott A. McKeown, have been elected as members to the Firm. Additionally, six associates have been elevated to senior associates.

Edwin D. Garlepp practices in the firm's Electrical/Mechanical Practice Group, focusing on all areas of patent law including securing patent protection, drafting legal opinions and enforcing patents. He has technical expertise in semiconductor devices, processes and manufacturing equipment, and is also experienced in a broad array of consumer electronic technologies. Before attending law school, Mr. Garlepp worked on communications and radar equipment for the U.S. Navy, and worked as an Electronics Systems Quality Engineer at Electromagnetic Sciences, Inc. He also served as a Patent Examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he specialized in redundant power sources and electronic switching systems. Mr. Garlepp received his J.D. from The University of Georgia School of Law. He received his B.S. degree from Southern Illinois University and his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from George Mason University.

Kirsten A. Grüneberg, Ph.D. practices chemical patent prosecution in the firm's Chemical Practice Group. Dr. Grüneberg has published more than 20 papers and has been an invited speaker regarding her research at international conferences in the U.S., Japan, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Korea. She is an inventor on several U.S. and foreign patents. Dr. Grüneberg received her J.D. from the George Washington University School of Law. She received her M.S. degree in Organic Chemistry, summa cum laude, and her B.S. degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering, magna cum laude, from the E.-M.-Arndt-Universität in Germany. After receiving her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, magna cum laude, from the Technische Universität Berlin in Germany, Dr. Grüneberg was awarded a Lynen-Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany to perform research for three years at the Center for Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.

Barry J. Herman is a patent attorney in the firm's Litigation Practice Group. He represents domestic and foreign clients involved in patent and other intellectual property disputes before the United States Federal District Courts and the International Trade Commission. Mr. Herman received his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law and was awarded the Order of the Coif upon graduation. He received his B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University.

Scott A. McKeown focuses his practice on client counseling, litigation and patent prosecution in the firm's Electrical/Mechanical Practice Group. He has experience in diversified technologies which include semiconductor fabrication, computer software, telecommunications, e-commerce applications, and consumer electronics. Mr. McKeown received his J.D. from Temple University School of Law. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with honors from Temple University.

New senior associates:

Kurt M. Berger, Ph.D. practices in the firm's Electrical/Mechanical Practice Group and prepares and prosecutes patent applications in the electrical, computer, medical imaging, and bioinformatic arts, and on patent interferences. Prior to joining the firm, he was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Ohio State University. Dr. Berger received his J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, with a specialization in computational fluid dynamics, from the University of Wisconsin, where his research was supported by the National Science Foundation. He received a M.S. in Systems Engineering, a B.S. in Computer Engineering, and a B.A. in Economics, summa cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University.

John D. Dellinger, D.V.M. practices all areas of patent prosecution and litigation in the firm's Chemical and Litigation Practice Groups. Dr. Dellinger received his J.D. from The College of William and Mary. He received his D.V.M. degree from North Carolina State University, where he also received his B.S. degree, cum laude. Dr. Dellinger practiced veterinary medicine for seven years prior to attending law school.

Remus F. Fetea, Ph.D. practices patent prosecution in the firm's Electrical/Mechanical Practice Group. Prior to joining the firm, he was a research scientist with Condensed Matter Research Institute of Timisoara, Romania, a research scientist with the Department of Electrical Engineering at University of Cape Town and a senior lecturer in the same department. Dr. Fetea received his J.D. degree from George Mason University Law School. He holds a Ph.D. in physics, with a specialization in Elementary Particle Physics, from University of Cape Town, South Africa. He received his M.S. and B.S. degrees from University of Timisoara, Romania.

Stefan Uwe Koschmieder, Ph.D. practices in the firm's Chemical Practice Group. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Koschmieder worked for several years in the chemical industry. He has published over 40 technical papers in his field. Dr. Koschmieder received his J.D. degree from George Washington University Law School. After receiving his Ph.D. in Chemistry from The University of Texas, Dr. Koschmieder held a post-doctoral fellowship at Imperial College in London England with Nobel Laureate Prof. Sir Geoffrey Wilkinson. He also has an MBA from the University of Houston.

Vincent K. Shier, Ph.D. focuses his practice on chemical and biotechnology patent prosecution in the firm's Chemical Practice Group. Dr. Shier received his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School. He received his Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Rochester, with a double major in biology and chemistry.

Edward W. Tracy, Jr. focuses on patent prosecution in the firm's Electrical/Mechanical Practice Group. Before attending law school, Mr. Tracy was an engineer at Raytheon Electronic Systems. Mr. Tracy received his J.D. degree from Boston College Law School. He received a M.S. degree in Physics from Indiana University. He received his B.S. degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, with honors, from Purdue University.

Peter Donati Appointed to Human Resource Association of Greater Oak Brook Board of Directors
Levenfeld Pearlstein LLC is pleased to announce that Peter F. Donati, head of the firm’s Employment Service Group, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Human Resource Association of Greater Oak Brook (HRA). The HRA is a local branch of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and is comprised of more than 100 businesses and non-profit organizations in Chicago and its Western suburbs. Mr. Donati’s term begins in January 2007.

Founded in 1970, the HRA provides professional development and networking opportunities for association members and other human resource professionals, practitioners, consultants, vendors and students. Mr. Donati assumes the position of Legislative Representative for the Board.

In his legal practice, Mr. Donati represents clients in a wide range of employment-related litigation, including discrimination claims, employment contract disputes, and claims involving restrictive covenants. He has appeared in state and federal courts throughout the country at both the trial and appellate levels and represented clients before the EEOC, NLRB and other government departments and agencies.

Mr. Donati also counsels clients on employment issues, negotiates executive employment agreements, conducts training for supervisors and managers, and advises clients on employment-related matters in domestic and international transactions.
