VORYS TAPS CORPORATE LAW EXPERT TO LEAD FIRM
Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP is pleased to announce that Russell M. Gertmenian, a partner with more than 35 years of experience in corporate law, has been named managing partner. In this capacity, Mr. Gertmenian will lead a team of nearly 400 attorneys at the firm, which is ranked 108th among the nation’s top law firms. He succeeds Robert W. Werth who has been managing partner since 1995.

As managing partner, Gertmenian oversees the strategic development and operations of the firm, which has offices in six markets. He is also responsible for business development, practice group coordination and staffing, committee assignments, and further improving firm efficiency to bring the greatest value to its clients. In addition, Gertmenian manages the expansion of Vorys’ practice capabilities and will continue to promote the firm’s distinctive practice model that has been deeply rooted in client service for nearly 100 years.

“It is an extraordinary honor for me to work collaboratively with the firm’s leadership team,” said Mr. Gertmenian. “Vorys is dedicated to exceptional client service, and our highly skilled attorneys consistently exceed those expectations. I look forward to continuing that commitment in the future.”

A member of the firm’s executive committee, Gertmenian is recognized as one of the top corporate law attorneys in the nation and acts as general counsel to a variety of public and private corporations. He practices in the areas of general corporate and contract law, including mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. His practice also includes intellectual property law, with a specialty in unfair competition and trademark/servicemark law. Gertmenian also serves on the Board of Directors of Abercrombie & Fitch Co., AirNet Systems, Inc., Desco Corporation and Van Dyne Crotty, Inc.

Maximizing the firm’s strengths, growing business and continuing to build relationships are among Gertmenian’s top priorities. One of his first tasks as managing partner is to appoint a new executive committee to assist in identifying his successor so when the time comes for him to step down, a smooth transition can take place. The firm has experienced tremendous growth over the last 15 years and currently has offices throughout Ohio and in Alexandria, VA and Washington D.C. While there is no formal plan for expansion into new markets within a specified time frame, Gertmenian says his focus will certainly remain on growing the firm and building a national presence.

“We’re going to continue to look at that very actively,” said Gertmenian. “Our goal is to grow the law firm both in Columbus and at the existing offices and, if we choose elsewhere, in a very orderly fashion.”

Robert W. Werth served as Vorys’ managing partner for 12 years and was responsible for growing the firm from 284 attorneys in four offices in 1995, to nearly 400 attorneys in six offices today. He has 40 years of experience in the areas of banking, savings and loan, real estate and bankruptcy law. Werth will return to practicing law full time as a senior member of the firm’s commercial, bankruptcy and real estate practice group and plans to remain active in the central Ohio community. He is currently a board member and counsel for the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Ohio Business Roundtable, president of the Columbus Law Library Association and an advisory board member of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission.

During Werth’s tenure the firm was recognized for a wide variety of achievements including being one of only 25 firms nationwide, to receive prestigious recognition as a “Cross-Practice Powerhouse” by Fortune 1000 companies in the BTI Power Rankings. The firm also maintains a 97 percent overall client satisfaction rating, affirmation of Vorys client-centric culture and unique practice model. Vorys represents 12 of the top 18 largest central Ohio companies and more than half of the Ohio-based Fortune 500 companies. In addition, Vorys was named the Top Corporate Law Firm in Columbus by Corporate Board Member and was named a Top 25 Law Firm for Retail and Industrial Manufacturing Legal Services by Fortune 500 companies.

“The firm has a long and respected history and a very promising future, Russ’ appointment is a complement to the firm’s position as a leader in corporate law,” said Werth. “I am confident he will leverage Vorys’ unique assets to further build relationships and deliver services that make strategic sense for our clients.”

In 2006, Vorys was named a Go-To Law Firm™ by Limited Brands Inc., American Standard and Goodyear in litigation, corporate governance and labor and employment. Vorys is one of the largest law firms in the United States with offices in Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Akron, Ohio, as well as in Washington, D.C., and Alexandria, VA.
