Three FETF Attorneys Named Illinois Super Lawyers for 2007
Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery is pleased to announce that John Flannery, Timothy Maloney and Phil Petti were once again voted Illinois Super Lawyers for 2007. This recognition is based on an annual survey sent to 47,000 active lawyers in Illinois, the results of which are published in the Law & Politics and Chicago magazines. Fasken Martineau Pledges $50,000 to the Restoration of Stanley Park
Fasken Martineau is a proud supporter of the Stanley Park Restoration Fund. Together with corporate and community citizens, the Vancouver office has pledged assistance to the rebeautification of the city's precious woodland. Throughout the month of January, the firm will match all employee donations and pledge one dollar for every recorded billable hour by professionals, to a maximum of $50,000.

On Dec. 15, 2006, a devastating windstorm caused nearly 3000 trees to fall in Vancouver's beloved Stanley Park, considered North America's third largest urban core park with an estimated eight million visitors. Several roads and amenities in the park remain closed while clean-up is undertaken.

"Stanley Park is a very special place. Whether it's memories of a wedding, a child's first dip in the water park, a lunch time jog through the trails, company picnics, or the peace and tranquility of enjoying quiet moments in the Rose Garden or on the beach, the Park has been a source of happiness for many of us. We are fortunate to have such a local treasure to look out on and enjoy daily, just part of the West Coast lifestyle that we all cherish. As we all know, Stanley Park now needs our help," said Will Westeringh, Managing Partner, Vancouver Region.

Fasken Martineau, Vancouver, and Stanley Park share a unique and special bond. Both were founded in the same decade. In the mid-1880's, Vancouver's first City Council petitioned the Federal Government to lease 1,000 acres of land for park and recreation purposes. The park officially opened in 1888 and was named for Lord Stanley, Governor General of Canada (1888 - 1893). At the same time, Fasken Martineau's western roots were planted when Joe Russell, a 21 year-old lawyer from New Brunswick, began his law practice in Vancouver. Joe joined Victoria law firm, Yates & Jay, and became a partner in 1889 when he was called to the British Columbia Bar.

Fasken Martineau is the first Vancouver law firm to launch such an initiative. This week Will Westeringh, Managing Partner, issued a friendly challenge to the top 15 law firms in Vancouver to also lend their support to this project. Other community leaders have launched similar campaigns including Jim Pattison, TELUS, HSBC, and Goldcorp.

Dunn Carney assists Morrison Family Services
Last December, Dunn Carney employees collected toys, clothing and money for the children of Morrison Child and Family Services. The staff shared with us that there is also a big need for school supplies for the children as school starts in Sept. So, in August we had Dunn Carney Hawaiian Days to raise money for the kids. We collected donations from everyone who wore a Hawaiian Shirt and had a big shopping day purchasing $250 in school supplies, including five backpacks. The Director is absolutely thrilled that we were able to fill a need on behalf of these kids.

Thanks to the Dunn Carney employees for their contributions to these kids in need.
