Quinn Emanuel Receives Award for Pro Bono Work
Quinn Emanuel has been honored as Co-Counsel of the Year by the Disability Rights Legal Center (“DRLC”), a non-profit public interest law organization based at Loyola Law School.

During the past year, Quinn Emanuel associates acted as lead counsel in the representation of 15 low-income disabled students and their parents in administrative challenges seeking appropriate educational placements and related services from Southern California school districts. Quinn Emanuel provided complete coverage for all aspects of the hearing process, including the filing of a detailed complaint, lengthy and complex negotiations with school officials at mediation sessions, and representation at due process hearings before administrative law judges.

In every case, Quinn Emanuel and DRLC obtained excellent results for the students, and dramatically improved their odds of success in school. The program honed the skills of Quinn Emanuel’s junior lawyers, because due process hearings require intensive preparation, involve the examination of witnesses, and the use of experts. At the same time, students who might otherwise get lost in the system obtained top-drawer legal representation. The impact extends beyond particular cases, as well: DRLC credits Quinn Emanuel’s involvement with causing school districts to take more seriously the claims of other disabled students and their parents.
