The law firm of Vedder Price announces the winner of its annual Diversity Scholarship Award for minority law students in Illinois. Elijah M. Watkins, a first year law student at the University of Illinois, will receive a $5,000 stipend for each of his three years of law school and is guaranteed a position in Vedder Price’s award-winning Summer Program for 2007. The award was presented by Douglas M. Hambleton, Chairman of the Firm’s Executive Committee and Lawrence J. Casazza, Chair of the Firm’s Diversity Committee. James V. Garvey, Chair of the Firm’s Associate Hiring Committee also participated in the selection process. “We are delighted to make this award to Elijah Watkins, a truly exceptional candidate,” said Mr. Hambleton, “As a Firm, our goal is to promote diversity both internally and within the profession at large, and we appreciated the large number of applications we received. We look forward to bestowing many more such awards in future years.”

Mr. Casazza noted that “the Firm had seen a number of excellent candidates for the 2007 award. We are absolutely delighted with the level of participation that our scholarship program is receiving.”

Heath Miller Joins Morgan Lewis: Brings His Employee Benefits Experience to Dallas
Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP is pleased to announce that Heath A. Miller has joined the firm as a partner in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice. Mr. Miller has broad experience in the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefit plans, including qualified retirement plans, nonqualified plans, health and welfare benefit plans, stock and other equity-based plans, and other executive compensation arrangements.

"Adding Heath, with his strong reputation, experience, credentials, and client and community relationships, to our already notable Morgan Lewis Employee Benefits Practice Group will enable us to enhance our reputation and to continue to develop our sophisticated national practice," said John Kober, Managing Partner of the Dallas office, and a partner in the Employee Benefits Practice. "His presence also assists us as we expand our Texas and Southwest benefits and executive compensation practice," he continued.

Mr. Miller represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor on matters related to employee benefits and has extensive experience with the correction programs embodied in the Employee Plans Compliance Resolutions System (EPCRS). Additionally, he advises clients, as well as corporate and securities lawyers, regarding the employee benefit issues associated with mergers and acquisitions, and he provides practical guidance to clients with respect to benefit integration both in preparation for and following such transactions.

A 1997 graduate of South Texas College of Law, Mr. Miller received an LL.M. in tax from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1998. Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Miller was with the law firm of Baker Botts LLP.
