Pam Cox Elected as 2007 LES Chair
Marshall, Gerstein & Borun is pleased to announce that Partner Pamela L. Cox is serving as 2007 Chair of the Licensing Executives Society (LES), Chicago Chapter.

“We are pleased to see Pam lead the local arm of the Licensing Executives Society,” said Jeff Sharp, managing partner of Marshall, Gerstein & Borun. “The technical experience, industry knowledge and enthusiasm that make Pam such a valuable asset to the firm and her clients will undoubtedly make her a strong leader for the society, as well.”

Following on the Chapter leadership efforts of Mark Dietzen and Michael Bredhal and responding to a recent survey of LES members, in 2007, the Chapter is focused on bringing its members speakers and topics that cover a wide range of pressing issues in valuation, negotiation, deal optimization and the law.

“I am excited about the top-notch speakers we have lined up to provide insight and creative solutions to issues facing the experienced licensing executive,” Cox said.

Cox handles licensing and other IP-related transactions for a range of clients from start-up organizations to non-profit institutions to multi-national corporations. She also focuses on biotechnology patent opinion work and counseling. Cox is a frequent speaker and active participant in several professional organizations, such as the Intellectual Property Owners Association, Association of University Technology Managers and BIO.

Cox received her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame School of Law and her B.S. in biology from Indiana University. She is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

K&L Gates Hires Pensions Team
Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis LLP (K&L Gates) announced the appointment of Danny Tsang as partner, and Louise Waldron and Comron Rowe as associates. This is a significant enhancement of the firm's benefits group and re-establishes the London Office's pensions capability.

Tsang and his team join from McDermott Will & Emery.

Tsang qualified in 1994, became a partner of McDermott Will & Emery in January 2005 and has been the Head of Pensions & Incentives in its London Office since September 2005. Tsang has a wide-ranging pensions law practice and advises both employers and trustees. He has extensive experience in advising on plan re-organisations and strategy as well as on corporate transactions with particular expertise in public sector outsourcing. His expertise also includes employee incentives (both equity and cash based) and, having advised on a number of global share plan projects, he will work closely with Ian Fraser in further developing the London Office's share schemes offering.

Senior associate Louise Waldron joined McDermott Will & Emery in November 2002 and is a qualified solicitor in both the UK and South Africa. Prior to this, Waldron spent two years at MacFarlanes.

Comron Rowe also joins K&L Gates as an associate. He joined McDermott Will & Emery last year from Simmons & Simmons.

Katz Barron Attorney Elected to Nicaraguan American Chamber of Commerce Board
Ileana M. Espinosa, associate in the Litigation and Restructuring & Creditor’s Rights groups of Katz Barron, has been elected as a board member of the Nicaraguan American Chamber of Commerce and will serve as the organization’s board secretary.

James Wyse will be teaching a course entitled "Tax Benefits and Appraisals of Conservation Projects" at the Midwest Land Conservation Conference in Indianapolis on April 26, 2007. The course is part of the land trust accreditation curriculum sponsored by the Land Trust Alliance.

Harold Franklin, a King & Spalding Lawyer, Named President Of Gate City Bar Association
King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today that Harold E. Franklin, Jr., is the new president of the Gate City Bar Association, the oldest African-American bar association in the state of Georgia. Franklin is a senior associate in the firm’s Tort and Environmental Law practice group.

Franklin’s installation as president of the association took place at ceremonies yesterday at the Fulton County Government Center Assembly Hall.

“We applaud Harold’s commitment to the Gate City Bar Association and congratulate him on this personal honor,” said Mason W. Stephenson, managing partner of King & Spalding’s Atlanta office. “Harold’s dedication to this venerable professional organization is characteristic of our lawyers’ determination to give back to the community in a tangible way.”

The Gate City Bar Association, established in 1948, has approximately 450 members and is an affiliate chapter of the National Bar Association. With over 20,000 members, the National Bar Association is the nation’s oldest and largest national association of predominantly African-American lawyers and judges. Gate City is the official affiliate host of the National Bar Association Convention, scheduled this summer in Atlanta.

Franklin concentrates his legal practice in the area of defending complex product liability actions. He has served as counsel for a number of the country’s largest automotive, pharmaceutical, beverage and package delivery companies and has been actively involved in matters throughout the continental United States and abroad. He also has served as in-house counsel (on loan from King & Spalding) for General Motors Corporation. Franklin has utilized his fluency in Spanish in his law practice in matters in Puerto Rico, Europe and South America. He received a B.A. degree from Emory University and a J.D. degree from Georgia State University School of Law. Franklin recently was elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and is listed in the 2006 issue of Georgia Trend magazine’s Legal Elite as a leading lawyer in his practice area.

Pierre Cournot joins Hodgson Russ

Mr. Cournot is a French-born and U.S.-trained business lawyer. He advises foreign corporations and high-net-worth individuals at every stage of their presence in the United States.
