Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Attorney Coauthors "How To" Book on Brownfields Law for New Jersey Law Journal
Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney shareholder Mary Sue Henifin contributed to a comprehensive update of the "how to" manual for redevelopment of contaminated properties, titled New Jersey Brownfields Law. The update, recently published by the New Jersey Law Journal Press, includes new information on how to successfully plan and carry out brownfields redevelopment.

Brownfields are known to cause economic stagnation, threats of fires and increased health risks to urban communities. Thus, the remediation and reuse of brownfields sites has become a priority and a centerpiece of New Jersey's efforts to control sprawl and promote redevelopment in urbanized areas of the State. At any one time, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) oversees some 23,000 contaminated sites. An estimated 10,000 of these are potential brownfield sites.

Henifin acknowledged Buchanan associate Todd Wojtowicz and paralegal Jonathan Cutty, who also contributed to the book.

About Henifin

Located in Buchanan's Princeton office, Henifin is a member of the firm's Litigation Section and Environmental Practice Group. She served as chair and is a member of the Lawyers Advisory Committee to the Federal District Court for the District of New Jersey. She is a trustee of the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey. Henifin received a J.D. degree with honors from Rutgers University School of Law, where she served as research editor of the Law Review. She graduated from Harvard College, cum laude, with a bachelor of arts degree in biology, and she holds a master's of public health from Columbia University.

Former Congresswoman Nancy Johnson to Join Baker Donelson
Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC is pleased to announce that former Congresswoman Nancy Johnson will be joining the Firm's Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Johnson will join Baker Donelson as a member of the Firm's Federal Public Policy Group.

"We are pleased that Representative Nancy Johnson has agreed to become a member of our Firm," said former Senator Howard Baker, who founded Baker Donelson's Federal Public Policy Group. "In her more than 20 years of service in the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy established a solid reputation for civility and bi-partisanship, which is in keeping with the nature and commitment of Baker Donelson's Federal Public Policy Group. Her reputation and experience will serve the Firm and our clients well."

Ms. Johnson was first elected in 1982 and served longer in the House of Representatives than anyone in Connecticut's history. A senior member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, she most recently chaired the Health Subcommittee, making her the first woman to chair a House Ways and Means subcommittee. She is currently a fellow for the Institute of Politics associated with Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. As a member of the Firm's Federal Public Policy Group, Ms. Johnson will focus primarily on health care issues, but will also work actively on trade and tax matters on behalf of Baker Donelson clients.

"During her time in Congress, Representative Johnson worked tirelessly on issues related to health care, taxes and the economy," said Linda Daschle, chair of Baker Donelson's Federal Public Policy Group. "Her knowledge and demonstrated ability to work productively with members of both major parties is extremely valuable, and we are proud Nancy has chosen to share her experience with Baker Donelson and our clients."

"I am pleased to join Senator Baker and his highly respected firm," Ms. Johnson said. "At a time when Congress and the President have put health care issues at the top of the nation's agenda, I am happy to have the opportunity to continue to work to find solutions to complex health care, tax, and trade issues with a firm as established and capable as Baker Donelson."

Baker Donelson's Federal Public Policy Group was founded in October 1988 by Senator Baker, whose distinguished career includes service as Senate Majority Leader, Chief of Staff to the President of the United States and Ambassador to Japan. The Firm's government relations/public policy practice strives to embody the bi-partisanship and integrity that Senator Baker brought to his work both in Congress and as Chief of Staff to President Reagan. Baker Donelson's Federal Public Policy Group and Health Law Group are nationally recognized, with both being ranked among the top 10 in the country by leading industry publications.
