SQUIRE SANDERS LAUNCHES PUBLIC ADVOCACY AFFILIATE
Global law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. today announced its creation of a lobbying affiliate, Squire Sanders Public Advocacy, LLC, that will significantly expand the firm’s legislative practice. The affiliate’s founding principals, Patrick E. O’Donnell, James T. Pitts and James George Jatras, join Squire Sanders from Venable.

“This well-respected team brings nearly 100 years’ collective public advocacy experience to Squire Sanders and will help our firm build on the federal legislative practice guided by former US Congressman Louis Stokes,” said Joseph P. Markoski, managing partner of the firm’s Washington DC office. “Pat O’Donnell, Jim Pitts and Jim Jatras are go-to advisers with experience in myriad industries and strong relationships with key decision-makers. Squire Sanders Public Advocacy will be a premier federal legislative practice.”

O’Donnell said Squire Sanders provides the international reach essential to provide representation for an increasingly international client base. “Squire Sanders’ global legal services platform provides an unbeatable combination of global reach, sophisticated legal counsel and expertise across a wide range of industries,” he said.

Patrick O’Donnell combines his legislative and government public policy practice with international and communications law. His career spans a variety of high-level governmental positions, including six years at the White House as special assistant to the president for legislative affairs, and terms as deputy assistant attorney general at the Department of Justice and as legal counsel to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. Upon leaving the White House, O’Donnell served as legislative counsel to General Electric Company and J. C. Penney Corporation. He then became a partner in the Washington DC and Minneapolis law firm of O’Connor and Hannan, LLP.

O’Donnell plays an ongoing role in campaigning for Republican Party federal candidates and has been active in presidential campaigns for more than 20 years.

James Pitts has specific expertise in legislative and regulatory issues that have an impact on the transportation industry and works on issues that come before Congress and the US Department of Transportation. He is a former assistant director of the Securities/Corporate Practices Division with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in the US Treasury Department and a former chief counsel to the Arkansas Securities Department.

James Jatras focuses his practice on political and legislative issues and international affairs including the impact of global terrorism. He has served as a senior staff member in the US Senate in several policy areas including global terrorism, international trade, immigration and social issues.
