Loeb & Loeb Enhances Intellectual Property Practice with Addition of Patent Litigation Team
Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that a patent litigation group is joining the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group. The group consists of three partners: Jordan A. Sigale, Edward H. Rice and Marina N. Saito, who will reside in the Chicago office. The patent litigation team joins from Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP.

The group’s primary focus is on patent litigation. Their experience will enhance Loeb’s intellectual property group, which currently focuses on copyright and trademark law, unfair trade practices and other cutting edge licensing and technology issues. Loeb’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group currently serves many high profile media, entertainment, pharmaceutical, high-tech and advertising industry clients.

Michael Beck, the Co-Chair of Loeb & Loeb in New York, said, “The addition of patent litigation capabilities rounds out our existing IP team, a core element of our practice mix in each of our four offices.”

“Over the past decade, the firm has successfully expanded our national practices in non-patent IP litigation, trade secret litigation, computer and advertising law and transactional licensing work,” said John Frankenheimer, Co-Chair of Loeb & Loeb in Los Angeles. “With Jordan, Ed and Marina’s experience, we are now in a position to directly serve our clients who have asked for counsel with respect to patent litigation matters.”

The group has experience in representing clients in the following industries: aerospace, computer hardware and systems, consumer products, cosmetics, e-commerce, medical devices, optics, packaging, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, telecommunications and toys. Jordan A. Sigale – Jordan Sigale has successfully represented both defendants and plaintiffs as lead litigation and trial counsel throughout the U.S. in a wide variety of patent infringement cases encompassing a diverse range of technologies, and in cases involving a variety of other intellectual property issues including computer intrusion, copyright infringement, false advertising, design and utility patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation and infringement. Jordan has extensive involvement in coordinating foreign intellectual property litigation strategy in Australia, China, Europe and Hong Kong. As a result of the breadth of Jordan’s experience, he frequently counsels clients on intellectual property acquisition and development, portfolio management, licensing, joint ventures, IP risk management and trade regulation issues.

Edward H. Rice – Ed Rice has successfully represented both defendants and plaintiffs in a wide variety of patent infringement cases, encompassing a diverse range of technologies. As lead counsel, he has won patent trials in federal district court, the International Trade Commission, and the Court of Federal Claims. He also has extensive appellate experience in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Before joining Sonnenschein, Ed worked for the Department of Justice (DOJ), trying patent suits filed against the Government.

Marina N. Saito – Marina Saito practices in all areas of intellectual property law including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and unfair competition. She has successfully represented both defendants and plaintiffs in a wide variety of IP litigation and is involved with prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, litigation, licensing, validity and infringement analysis.

Alonso Joins Empire Racing's Board of Directors as Independent Director Overseeing Corporate Integrity
Daniel R. Alonso, partner in Kaye Scholer's White Collar Litigation and Internal Investigations Group, has joined the Board of Directors of Empire Racing Associates as the newly appointed Chair of the Integrity Task Force, which will focus on corporate governance, transparency and compliance enforcement to ensure that the racing franchise is operated with the highest integrity and accountability standards.

Empire Racing, a group of New York horsemen and breeders, is seeking to replace the New York Racing Association (NYRA) as operators of New York state's three thoroughbred racetracks (Saratoga, Aqueduct, and Belmont). Before joining Kaye Scholer, Mr. Alonso was Chief of the Criminal Division in the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York.
