Susan Cohen to Speak on Immigration Options for Working and Remaining in the U.S.
Susan Cohen, a member in the firm's Boston office and manager of the Immigration Section will speak on Immigration Options for Working and Remaining in the U.S. at the MIT Sloan School of Management on March 7, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.

Susan is a member in the firm's Boston office and manages the Immigration Section which she developed. The Section is composed of nine attorneys and thirteen immigration specialists and assistants who service the immigration needs both of Mintz Levin's existing corporate and individual clients and of new clients who choose the firm precisely for its expertise in the field of immigration and nationality law. Mintz Levin also is committed to handling political asylum cases, most of which are taken on a pro bono basis.

Business Tax Group Adds International Experience
Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Revital Ben-Zaken has joined the Firm as an Associate in the business tax group. Ms. Ben-Zaken will be based in Blank Rome’s New York office.

Ms. Ben-Zaken joins Blank Rome after serving as an International Tax Services Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in New York where she advised clients on tax issues, at times focusing on liquidations, divestitures, mergers, and recapitalization of multinational companies. Immediately after law school, Ms. Ben-Zaken served for three years as a member of the Israel Defense Forces Judge Advocate General, where she attained the rank of captain. She served as a military prosecutor and authored legal opinions relied upon by top Israeli officials concerning the pardon requests and appeals from Israeli soldiers. After her service in the Israel Defense Forces, she gained additional legal experience as an Associate Solicitor at Joseph Samuel & Co. Law Offices and Notaries in Tel Aviv, Israel, where she managed tax related issues. She also formulated appeals and petitions against government agencies in connection with urban planning and estate expropriation. Prior to serving in the Israel Defense Force, she worked at Joseph Samuel & Co. as a legal assistant, researching tax issues.

Actively involved within the legal community, Ms. Ben-Zaken is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Israeli Bar Association. She is fluent in Hebrew.

Admitted to practice in New York, Ms. Ben-Zaken was awarded a Master of Laws in Taxation, with distinction, from the Georgetown University Law Center, with a focus on international taxation. Ms. Ben-Zaken also graduated, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Laws from Bar Ilan University in Israel.

Ms. Ben-Zaken is also part of a group at Blank Rome which provides services to the Israeli market.

Litigator Brings Experience in Journalism and Pennsylvania Supreme Court
Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Michael Thomas Murphy has joined the Firm as an Associate in the Litigation Department. Mr. Murphy will be based in Blank Rome’s Philadelphia office.

Mr. Murphy comes to Blank Rome after serving as a staff attorney for Justice Sandra Schultz Newman of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. During this time, Mr. Murphy’s responsibilities included drafting and editing opinions, and writing internal memoranda. Prior to serving the Court as a staff attorney, Mr. Murphy worked as a research assistant for Professor John A.E. Pottow at the University of Michigan Law School, where he assisted in the creation of source material for a first-year Contracts course and the drafting of several international bankruptcy articles. Mr. Murphy also worked as a Summer Associate with Blank Rome in 2005, where he researched and wrote memoranda in the areas of intellectual property, litigation, and legal ethics.

Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Mr. Murphy earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Res Gestae, one of the country’s oldest law school student newspapers. He also served as the Executive Notes Editor of the Michigan Journal of Race & Law. As a law student and a freelance journalist, Mr. Murphy has authored articles in several trade publications and newspapers. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, magna cum laude, from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Mr. Murphy is a member of the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers, the Pen and Pencil Club in Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Real Estate Counsel Brings City Planning Experience
Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Thomas Chapman has joined the Firm as Of Counsel in the institutional real estate group. Mr. Chapman comes to Blank Rome after nearly 30 years of service with the City of Philadelphia's Planning Commission, and will be based in Blank Rome’s Philadelphia office.

Prior to joining Blank Rome, Mr. Chapman served as the Acting Executive Director and Secretary for Strategic Planning of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission. In this capacity, Mr. Chapman was responsible for all functions of the Philadelphia municipal planning agency, including managing the capital program and budget, reviewing zoning legislation, and preparing and implementing the city’s land use and environmental laws and regulations. Mr. Chapman reported directly to the Mayor of Philadelphia.

Before being named acting executive director, Mr. Chapman worked in various positions within the Philadelphia City Planning Commission for more than 25 years. He gained extensive experience in city, state and federal zoning and development controls; municipal land use and zoning process, and reviewing development plans for regulatory compliance.

A resident of Philadelphia, Mr. Chapman is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Mr. Chapman received his Doctor of Law from Widener University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from LaSalle University.

Ronald S. Gellert of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, has been recognized as a leader in bankruptcy law by being selected as an author in the recently released book The Roles and Motivations of Key Players in Bankruptcy Cases: Leading Lawyers on Overseeing Bankruptcy, Financial Restructuring, and Reorganization Proceedings, published by Aspatore Books. The book is an authoritative, insider’s perspective on the responsibilities and liabilities of the various constituents involved in bankruptcy, financial restructuring, and reorganization proceedings. Ronald S. Gellert is member at Eckert Seamans and practices in the Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Department, where he concentrates in debtor/creditor matters, primarily in the “mega” Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases pending in Delaware and throughout the nation. In addition, he practices in general commercial law and commercial litigation, and he is a resident of both the Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware offices of the firm. Ron was named a 2005 and 2006 Rising Star by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers. Mr. Gellert earned his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in 1997 and his bachelor of arts degree, graduating with High Honors, from Rutgers College in 1993. Following graduation from law school, Mr. Gellert served as a law clerk to the Honorable Judith H. Wizmur and the Honorable Gloria M. Burns of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. He is a member of the Delaware Bankruptcy American Inn of Court, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference, and he is admitted to practice in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He resides in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
