McGlinchey Attorneys Donna Klein and Beth Abramson Elected To New Positions
Donna Klein was recently elected Vice-Chair of the Committee for Better New Orleans/Metropolitan Area Committee (CBNO/MAC), succeeding Boysie Bollinger. CBNO/MAC is a diverse community organization, a catalyst and convener, working to bring all voices to the table to build a better future for all New Orleanians.


Beth Abramson was recently elected to the Louisiana State Bar Association Board of Governors from the Orleans Parish area.

Zachary M. Rubinich Publishes Article for PSIA
Zachary M. Rubinich, a partner in the Firm's Philadelphia office, has published an article entitled "Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Addresses 'Employer-Employee Relationship' Scenario Under the Act" in the Pennsylvania Self-Insurers' Association's (PSIA) recent newsletter.

In its March 2007 newsletter, PSIA published Mr. Rubinich's article, which analyzed the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's December 27, 2006 decision of Brookhaven Baptist Church v. Workers' Compensation Appeal Board (Halvorson). In his article, Mr. Rubinich reviewed the Court's decision concerning a clarification of the term "employer-employee relationship" as utilized in the Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Act. He also cited the Court's seven key elements for consideration to determine whether an "employer-employee relationship" existed at the time of the injury or death in order to determine the potential existence of a legal defense to payment of compensation benefits pursuant to the Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Act.

Prominent Commercial Real Estate Attorney Joins Sonnenschein
Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced the addition of Barbara E. Champoux as a partner in its national Real Estate Group. Champoux will reside in the law firm’s New York office.

“Barbara will be a great addition to our group, complementing the work of our lodging and hospitality partners in Phoenix and Brussels,” said Gary A. Goodman, chair of Sonnenschein’s New York Real Estate Group. “With her national reputation, we are very excited about Barbara joining the firm and by the abilities she brings to help broaden our existing client base.”

Champoux has handled a wide variety of transactional, leasing and security matters for a diverse client base. She concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial real estate transactions, securitization and structured finance, and joint ventures. Champoux is particularly active in the leisure and lodging industries; she currently represents the world’s largest regional theme park operator, and is intimately involved in aspects related to its operations, acquisitions, development, construction, financing and ancillary matters.

Champoux received a J.D. degree from New York Law School, where she currently teaches real estate transactions and finance as an adjunct professor, and a B.A. degree from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. Champoux is also an adjunct professor at New York University’s Real Estate Institute, and a frequent lecturer at professional events and seminars covering such topics as financing, lodging, development, acquisition of distressed assets, and commercial leasing.

“I am eager to expand my practice and Sonnenschein has the resources that will enable me to do it successfully,” said Champoux. “The national platform and depth that the firm provides will be of great benefit to my clients. Furthermore, the firm’s commitment to diversity echoes my own passion on the subject.”

Champoux joins Sonnenschein from Sullivan & Worcester LLP. She was previously a partner at Nixon Peabody LLP. Champoux is the past president and current board member of the New York Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), a member of the CREW Foundation Grant Making Committee, and an original member of the Women in Hospitality Investment Network.

MORGAN & FINNEGAN OBTAINS SUMMARY JUDGMENTS FOR HEIDELBERGER DRUCKMASCHINEN AG
Judge Steven J. McAuliffe of the U.S. District Court of New Hampshire granted Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG's motion for summary judgment dismissing the remaining MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AG antitrust claims for alleged violations of §§1 and 2 of the Sherman Act, based upon Walker Process fraud and sham litigation. The decision resolved all of MAN Roland’s claims against Heidelberger. Earlier in the case, MAN Roland’s claims of unlawful merger based upon alleged violations of the Clayton Act, as well as other alleged Sherman Act violations, were dismissed on summary judgment. The Morgan & Finnegan attorneys representing Heidelberger were John F. Sweeney, Seth J. Atlas, Mark J. Abate, Steven F. Meyer, Tony V. Pezzano, Steven Purdy, Pankaj Soni and Sean Jackson.
