"The international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP announced today that Thomas I. Dupuis has joined the Firm’s renewable energy practice as a partner in the Los Angeles office. The move marks the third lateral partner hire and seventh overall hire in Los Angeles for this practice in 2007, expanding Chadbourne’s global presence in the renewable energy area.

Chadbourne Managing Partner Charles K. O’Neill said, ""We are pleased to bring Tom on board. His skills complement and deepen the capabilities we offer our energy clients on the West Coast and elsewhere.""

Mr. Dupuis joins Chadbourne from the Los Angeles law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. In addition to his work in renewable energy, Mr. Dupuis’ substantial experience in commercial real estate will complement Chadbourne’s practice in that area as well.

In renewable energy, Mr. Dupuis will be working closely with Edward Zaelke and Adam Umanoff, two other partners who in February joined Chadbourne’s renewable energy practice in Los Angeles from Morgan Lewis. Mr. Zaelke and Mr. Umanoff are both widely recognized as leading attorneys involved in renewable energy development. In addition, associates John Ha, Lloyd MacNeil and Chris Pelliccioni and paralegal Lois LeBar have either joined or are in the process of joining Chadbourne, all from Morgan Lewis. Chadbourne’s Los Angeles office continues to actively recruit associates.

On March 7, former New York Governor George Pataki and his Chief of Staff John Cahill joined Chadbourne’s New York office to focus on energy, environmental and corporate matters. Messrs. Dupuis, Zaelke and Umanoff expect to collaborate with them on a range of projects.

In his previous position, Mr. Dupuis, 38, was a member of the Business and Finance Practice Group. His practice there included the development, purchase and sale of energy projects, with a focus on wind power. His work in the area included siting (including wind park and transmission easements and ground leases), acquiring governmental approvals and permits, construction, and negotiating and documenting turbine purchase and warranty agreements, agreements to engineer, procure and construct projects, and agreements for the purchase and sale of wind power projects.

In addition to his energy background, Mr. Dupuis comes to Chadbourne with over 12 years of legal experience in a range of real estate and commercial transactions. His work includes real estate acquisitions and sales, development, construction, leasing, debt and equity financing, joint ventures, land use matters, project development and project finance and corporate transactions.

Mr. Dupuis holds a B.S. from Northwestern University and a J.D. from the University of Southern California Law Center, where he received Order of the Coif honors, was a member of the Southern California Law Review and was associate editor of the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal. "

AKIN GUMP OPENS BEIJING OFFICE
"Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, one of the world’s largest international law firms, formally announced today the opening of an office in the People’s Republic of China. Located in Beijing, the office furthers Akin Gump’s expansion into major markets and enables the firm to support Chinese companies expanding into overseas markets, as well as to support foreign companies entering or expanding their investments or operations in China.

With 15 offices around the world, Akin Gump advises international, regional and local clients in more than 50 practice areas. In Mainland China, practices will include business transactions; private equity and funds; environment, natural resources and energy; intellectual property; and international trade. The firm also offers one of the world’s largest and most respected public policy practices helping clients with the resources necessary to overcome regulatory obstacles anywhere in the world.

Commenting on the launch, Eliot Cutler, partner in charge of Akin Gump’s Beijing office, said, “As Chinese companies move increasingly into overseas markets, they will require a broad array of legal, policy and regulatory services. Akin Gump is one of only a few law firms that can provide an entire range of those services in one firm.”

In addition to supporting Chinese outbound investment, Akin Gump will help foreign companies overcome their hurdles in the China market by navigating legal and regulatory landscapes and addressing risks that stand in the way of commercial success.

Akin Gump played an important role in supporting foreign trade and investment in China prior to receiving its license in December 2006. Founder Robert Strauss helped establish formal commercial and diplomatic relations between the United States and the People’s Republic of China. Appointed as special trade representative by President Jimmy Carter, Ambassador Strauss negotiated the first trade agreement between the United States and China.

R. Bruce McLean, Akin Gump's chairman, said, “Establishing a presence on the Chinese Mainland will enable us to further Ambassador Strauss’ vision of strong and robust trade and investment ties between the People’s Republic of China and the United States, and indeed now other major world economies. We are looking forward to proactively working with clients to best address their business and legal needs across a variety of industries, and are excited by the tremendous opportunities here.”

The office opens with a dynamic team of local and foreign qualified lawyers:

* Eliot Cutler is partner-in-charge in the Beijing office. Before relocating with the firm to Beijing, Mr. Cutler was based in Washington, D.C., where he helped corporate and government clients grapple with complicated legal and public policy problems. His career spans government service, law and politics.
* Ying White joins as senior counsel. A dual-qualified lawyer in the People’s Republic of China and the United States, Ms. Ying was the lead attorney advising the World Bank’s Pension Fund while she was counsel at the Bank.
* Zhao Xiaohua (Sarah) is a partner in the firm’s Washington and Beijing offices, where she works on transactional and project finance matters for both Chinese and foreign clients.
* Zheng Xilin joins as an associate following two years at the World Bank. Mr. Zheng previously worked in the Law and Treaty Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and assisted in the negotiation of the Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR agreements.
* Stephen Kho joins from the Office of the Special Trade Representative of the United States, where he was the top lawyer on China matters and worked extensively on World Trade Organization matters related to China.

In addition to this team of in-house legal professionals, the firm’s public policy and government relations work will be supported by a highly distinguished group of senior advisors with extensive experience in the China market. The initial members of this team of advisors include—

* Chen Ying, who joins Akin Gump as a senior advisor. Ms. Chen is deputy director general of China Enterprises Confederation (CEC), the principal industry association of more than 500,000 Chinese employer entities. She has served as an alternate delegate from China to the International Labor Organization in Geneva and has been one of China’s principal spokespersons on CSR matters.
* Ma Lianyuan, widely recognized as a leading expert on patent law in China, who joins as a senior advisor. He is the former deputy commissioner of China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and will serve for the next three years as the elected president of the All China Association of Patent Attorneys.

Akin Gump’s Beijing office will be supported by the firm’s extensive capabilities in offices around the world, including in major political and commercial centers such as New York, Washington, D.C., London, Moscow and Dubai.

The office opening corresponds with Akin Gump’s ongoing sponsorship of the Guggenheim Foundation’s “Art in America: 300 Years of Innovation” exhibition that is currently being held in Beijing at the National Museum of Art and will soon open in Shanghai at the Shanghai Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art. AKERMAN SENTERFITT'S MIAMI OFFICE REACHES 25th ANNIVERSARY
"Akerman Senterfitt, the largest full-service law firm in Florida, marks 25 years of success in its Miami office, and announces continued expansion of its office space to more than 125,000 square feet. The firm now occupies eight floors of the 31-story landmark SunTrust building downtown, where it has been located for the past 12 years. The firm recently built out the entire 25th floor, which is dominated by a 2,600 square foot high-tech conference room, boardroom and catering facility. The 25th floor will now serve as the main reception area for the entire office.

""Since its opening, this has consistently been the fastest growing of all the firm's offices,"" noted Jim Miller, who has been with the Miami office for 20 years, and is now its Managing Shareholder. ""Our clients are based everywhere from Miami to Chile, Australia and Europe, but Miami's dynamic marketplace has certainly contributed to the steadily increasing demand for our services.""

Akerman Senterfitt opened its Miami office – its first 'branch' outside its founding Orlando office – in 1982, with one attorney. The office quickly grew to be the firm's largest, and today remains the largest of Akerman's 12 offices. The Miami office houses more than 360 total employees including 162 attorneys and consultants in eight main practice areas. Four attorneys serving on the nine-member Board of Directors practice out of the firm's Miami office.

""The success of this office has been driven by attracting top-tier lawyers who service our clients well,"" said Robert Zinn, Chief Operating Shareholder of the firm.

The Miami office currently includes Edward B. Davis, former Chief Judge, United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and now the firmwide chair of the firm's Litigation practice; former Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Michael B. Chavies; Jorge Arrizurieta, former president of the Florida FTAA; Alex Villalobos, currently a member of the Florida Senate; Daniel S. Gelber, currently the minority leader of the Florida House of Representatives; and Neisen Kasdin, former Mayor of Miami Beach.

The rapid growth of the Miami office has helped propel Akerman Senterfitt to national recognition as the 85th largest law firm in the U.S., as listed in The National Law Journal's Top 250. In addition to several national diversity awards, the firm was recognized locally in 2006 by the Greater Miami Society for Human Resource Management (GMSHRM) with a diversity award in recognition of its inclusive work environment in which all employees are inspired to contribute their best, strengthened by their different perspectives, backgrounds and life experiences.

The firm will host a reception for firm clients and guests to celebrate the Miami Office's 25th Anniversary, on its new 25th floor."
