HILL WALLACK LPP PARTNER APPOINTED TO NJSBA SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON APPELLATE PRACTICE
Stephen M. Eisdorfer, partner of the Princeton law firm of Hill Wallack LLP, where he is partner of the firm's Land Use Division, was recently appointed by the President of the New Jersey State Bar Association to the Bar Association’s Special Committee on Appellate Practice. The Special Committee on Appellate Practice is the Bar Association’s liaison with the Supreme Court and Appellate Division of Superior Court. They address all issues which affect practices and procedures in the Appellate Division and Supreme Court of New Jersey, including, but not limited to, commenting on proposed amendments to court rules; promoting an open and ongoing exchange of views with appellate judges and court administrators and sponsoring cooperative efforts between the Bench and the Association in order to enhance the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of justice at the appropriate level.

Mr. Eisdorfer has a practice concentration on litigation in the state and federal courts and applications and proceedings before public agencies involving land use - including residential, commercial, industrial, and health-care-related projects - civil rights and consumer fraud. He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of New Jersey. A distinguished scholar, Mr. Eisdorfer has argued significant cases concerning anti-exclusionary zoning litigation, municipal zoning which discriminates against housing for the non-traditional households, and racial discrimination in selection of occupants for low-income housing.

GR&R hosts Intellectual Property Rights and Enforcement, A Project for Kosovo
Gottlieb, Rackman & Reisman hosted a delegation of law enforcement professionals from Kosovo to discuss intellectual property rights protection and enforcement. The delegation was sponsored by the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program and the program was arranged by Delphi International Program of World Learning.

The program, Intellectual Property Rights and Enforcement, A Project for Kosovo, aimed to illustrate the U.S. intellectual property rights (IPR) legal, regulatory and judicial framework; expose participants to private sector IPR advocacy groups that draft laws and lobby Congress and the U.S. Government on IPR protection and enforcement; offer participants a better understanding of IPR protection and enforcement issues; give participants a better knowledge of how local, state and federal policies interact on IPR protection and enforcement; and provide exposure to the latest law enforcement measures, investigative techniques and use of technology to crack down on copyright and trademark infringement.

Gide Loyrette Nouel Paris and Riyadh, legal counsel on two projects linked to the King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, for an estimated combined amount of USD 300 million
Gide Loyrette Nouel advised IFC (the private sector arm of the World Bank Group) and the recently created General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia (formerly the Presidency of Civil Aviation) on a BTO project relating to the Hajj Terminal Complex at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, as well as a BOT project for new facilities supplying desalinated water to the Airport and its associated facilities. The Hajj Terminal Project is the first airport PPP project in the Kingdom.

The new Hajj Terminal Complex will have a capacity of about 9 million passengers per year and will be essentially dedicated to processing the Mecca pilgrim traffic. Following an international bidding process, the Saudi Binladin Group has been awarded the project with technical assistance from Aéroport de Paris Management (ADPM). In addition, the project of new desalination facilities (with a capacity of 45,000 m³ / day) has been awarded through an international bidding process to a consortium comprised of SETE Energy, Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co. Ltd., Aquatech and WTD S.R.L.

Gide Loyrette Nouel Paris and Riyadh offices have acted as lead counsel for both projects (John D. Crothers, partner, Antoine Cousin, Charles-Henri Arminjon and Robert Willets, associates). The estimated combined amount of the two projects is USD 300 million.

Gide Loyrette Nouel advised the Monnoyeur Group, a machinery sales and vehicle after market specialist, on the sale of Cofidim to funds managed by CDC Capital Investissement and to the company's management.

Cofidim controls the Feu Vert (vehicle maintenance and repair services), Impex (spare parts distribution) and Mondial Pare-Brise (windscreen repairs) businesses.

The Monnoyeur Group will retain a 34% stake in Cofidim.

Ackdon Investment Management, assisted by Gide Loyrette Nouel, has been licensed by the Autorité des Marchés Financiers, as a management company for the management of offshore funds.

Gide is also the legal advisor of Ackdon Investment Management for the structuring and setting-up of its first offshore fund.

The dedicated team, which was composed of partner Stéphane Puel and Esther Boujard, has a strong expertise in asset management law and in the structuring of offshore funds. This transaction confirms the presence of Gide Loyrette Nouel in this fast-expending area and the expertise on the structuring of hedge funds of the Fund Practice Group set up between the Paris, London and New York offices.

Gide Loyrette Nouel advised Groupama International on its acquisition of the entire share capital in Phoenix Metrolife Emporiki Hellenic Insurance Company SA, the second largest damage insurance company in Greece, from Emporiki Bank of Greece SA, a Crédit Agricole subsidiary.

This acquisition is subject to supervisory authority approval.

Sonia Miller-Van Oort Participates in ABA Bar Leadership Institute
Joining some 300 other emerging leaders of lawyer organizations from across the country at the American Bar Association’s Bar Leadership Institute (BLI), March 15-17 was Sonia Miller-Van Oort of
Minneapolis, MN, President-Elect of the Hennepin County Bar Association.

The BLI is held annually in Chicago for incoming officials of local and state bars, special focus lawyer organizations, and bar foundations. The seminar provides the opportunity to confer with ABA officials, bar leader colleagues, executive staff, and other experts on the operation of such associations.

Miller-Van Oort joined ABA President Karen J. Mathis of Denver, Colorado, and ABA President-Elect William H. Neukom of Seattle, Washington, in sessions on bar governance, finance, communications, and planning for a presidential term.

Various ABA entities briefed the participants on resources available from the ABA for local, state, national, and specialty bar associations and foundations.

The BLI is sponsored by the ABA Standing Committee on Bar Activities and Services and the ABA Division for Bar Services as part of the Association’s long-standing goal of fostering partnerships with state and local bars and related organizations.
