LeBoeuf Lamb Offers Stipends and Internships to Brazilian Lawyers
The international law firm of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP is pleased to announce the establishment of two US$10,000 stipends for higher-degree study in the United States or United Kingdom during the 2007/2008 academic year. The stipends, available exclusively to Brazilian lawyers, will be supplemented upon graduation by internships tenable at the firm’s offices in New York or London. The internships will run from September 2008 for a period not exceeding 15 months and remuneration for interns currently stands at US$160,000 in New York and £75,000 in London.

The stipends and internships are offered jointly. Applications for the stipends and internships should be made by 1 May 2007. Applicants should be established legal practitioners, with outstanding technical skills, accepted for study in 2007/2008 by an institution of higher education in the United States or United Kingdom. Each application should be supported by the following documents in English:
— A short personal statement, not exceeding one page, explaining the applicant’s reasons for applying and describing the current nature of her/his practice as Articles Nexis lawyer.
— One letter of reference from an individual with a sound knowledge of the applicant’s practice and who can comment on her/his technical skills.
— The applicant’s resume.
— A certified copy of the applicant’s academic transcript.
— If already available, a certified copy of the letter of admission from the institution of higher education to be attended by the applicant. [If not available by 1 May 2007, the letter is to be provided as soon as possible thereafter. Please note that a certified copy of the admissions letter must be provided before the grant of a stipend may be made.]
— A list of the likely classes to be pursued by the applicant during the period of higher-degree study.

Milton J. (Jack) Miller, A Founding Partner Of Honigman Miller Schwartz And Cohn LLP, Dies
Milton J. (Jack) Miller, a founding partner in 1948 of Detroit-based law firm Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, died March 6, at the age of 94.

During his career with the firm, Miller served as a business lawyer and headed a prestigious matrimonial practice where he represented many of Detroit’s social elite, including Henry Ford II in his last divorce in the early 1980s.

“He was the very heart and soul of the firm and we will miss him deeply,” said Alan S. Schwartz, CEO of Honigman. “He was one of those amazing and fortunate men who remained mentally and physically vital throughout his lifetime, and he was an inspiration to us all.”

Miller advised business clients in corporate transactions, combinations and acquisitions and represented their interests in negotiations and trial. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1933 and his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Michigan Law School in 1935. He was a life-long member of the State Bar of Michigan as well as the International Society of Barristers.

A dedicated business leader and benefactor of Detroit institutions, Miller was deeply involved in both civic and Jewish causes, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.

Miller is survived by his wife of more than 70 years, Jeanette Miller, two sons, Fred and Doug Miller, a daughter, Daphna Feldman, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Timothy Devine Joins Honigman's Litigation Department
Timothy A. Devine joined Detroit-based law firm Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP on March 6th as a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department. Devine comes to Honigman from Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich., where he most recently served as managing counsel, leading Ford’s response to discovery in government inquiries and class actions.

Devine joined Ford in 1995. He has handled a variety of litigation, including product liability and class actions. His responsibilities also included providing legal compliance and risk management counsel to Ford’s Human Resources areas and Ford’s e-commerce business portfolio. Prior to joining Ford, Devine held teaching and coaching positions at the American International School of Luxembourg and University of Detroit Jesuit High School.
Devine received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School magna cum laude; his Master of Law and Diplomacy from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and his Bachelor of Arts in government from Harvard University. Devine lives with his family in Farmington Hills, Mich.

Attorney Inducted into American College of Trial Lawyers
Robert F. Rossiter Jr. has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in America, at in induction ceremony on March 10, 2007, during the Mid-Year Meeting of the College in La Quinta, California. Rossiter is a shareholder/director in the firm and has been practicing in Omaha for over 23 years. He specializes in the field of labor and employment law. Rossiter is an alumnus of Creighton University School of Law.

Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only, and only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility, and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen year's trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship. Membership in the College cannot exceed one percent of the local lawyer population of any state or province.

The College strives to improve and elevate the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice and the ethics of the trial profession. Qualified lawyers are called to Fellowship in the College from all branches of trial practice. They are carefully selected from among those who customarily represent plaintiffs in civil cases and those who customarily represent defendants, those who prosecute persons accused of crime and those who defend them. The College is thus able to speak with a balanced voice on important issues affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice.

Other members of the firm who are Fellows in the College are Joseph K. Meusey and Wayne J. Mark.

Rossiter is also a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Attorneys

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer dominates IFLR European Awards
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer won nine awards at the International Financial Law Review European Awards 2007, held in London on March 14.

As well as being named European Law Firm of the Year, the firm was recognised for advising on four award-winning deals, and also won awards for Equity Team of the Year, Debt and Equity-Linked Team of the Year, Private Equity Team of the Year and Restructuring Team of the Year.

The awards were:

* Equity Deal of the Year for the $5 billion listing of KKR Private Equity Investors on Euronext Amsterdam
* Securitisation Deal of the Year for representing the lead manager in Emerald, HSBC's Covered Bond Programme
* Private Equity Deal of the Year for representing Grupo Ferrovial in its £12 billion acquisition of British airports group BAA

* Equity Team of the Year in recognition of our work on behalf of KKR, Xstrata, Gagfah and many others. We were involved in half of the IFLR short-listed equity deals of the year
* Debt and Equity-Linked Team of the Year in recognition of our work in a number of high-profile transactions, including the iesy and ish high-yield issuance, the Siemens hybrid bond issuance and DVB's €5 billion debt issuance program

Fenwick & West Makes Two-Year Commitment to Pride Law Fund

New Chicago Partners Strengthen Corporate Finance, Tax, Lending Practicesq
Daniel F. Cullen and Donal M. O’Brien have joined the international law firm Bryan Cave LLP as partners in the firm’s Chicago office. Cullen and O’Brien join Bryan Cave from the Chicago office of an international law firm where Cullen served as co-chair of the firm’s Real Estate Capital Markets Group and O’Brien was a member of the firm’s corporate group. Cullen and O’Brien both will join Bryan Cave’s Corporate Finance Group. In addition, Cullen will be a member of the firm’s Tax Advice and Controversy Group, and O’Brien will be a member of the firm’s Banking, Business and Public Finance Group.

“Daniel Cullen and Donal O’Brien will help Bryan Cave further expand the firm’s corporate finance, tax and lending practices,” said Jeffrey Morof, managing partner of Bryan Cave’s Chicago office. “With Daniel’s specialties in corporate finance and tax law and Donal’s extensive network within the Irish community in the U.S. and U.K., we look forward their assistance in continuing to strengthen the firm’s capabilities both domestically and internationally.”

Cullen’s practice has focused on U.S. federal income taxation of real estate transactions, international and domestic partnerships, joint ventures and structured finance transactions. He has experience in all aspects of tax planning for U.S. real estate projects, with a specialty in structuring and executing Section 1031 tenancy-in-common offerings.

Cullen is a member of the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation, Committee on Partnerships, and is the former chair of the Partnerships and Pass-through Entities Division of the Chicago Bar Association’s Federal Tax Committee. He currently is serving as adjunct professor at DePaul University College of Law. Cullen received his LL.M. in 1998 from New York University School of Law, his J.D., cum laude, in 1997 from American University Washington College of Law and his B.A., magna come laude, in 1994 from the State University of New York at Binghamton.

O’Brien’s practice has focused on a broad range of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, securities and commercial finance matters. He has been involved in numerous private offerings for U.S. real estate projects and has experience in Section 1031 matters. He primarily represents Anglo-Irish entities in the United States.

O’Brien is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the American Bar Association and is the founder and president of the Ireland Network, the largest Irish professional network in North America. He is currently an adjunct professor of law at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. O’Brien received his J.D. in 1998 from Loyola University and his B.A. in 1995 from The University College Dublin.
