Pittsburgh Labor Attorney Peter Ennis Elected President of the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force
Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC shareholder Peter J. Ennis was elected to serve as president of the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force for a one-year term. Mr. Ennis has been involved with the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force as a lawyer and board member for five years, and most recently served as a member of its Executive Committee.

Established in 1985, the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force is dedicated to saving, sustaining, and empowering the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS and preventing the spread of infections. As president of the organization, Ennis seeks to continue the organization's mission of "providing direct services to individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS and delivering preventative education programs to those at risk of infection.

Baker & McKenzie Advises CCMP Capital Asia on its Acquisition of the Yellow Pages Unit of New Zealand Telecom Corporation for in Excess of NZ$2 Billion
Baker & McKenzie has continued its long and successful association with key client, CCMP Capital Asia, by advising the private equity firm in relation to the acquisition of New Zealand Telecom Corporation's Yellow Pages Unit.

CCMP Capital Asia teamed with a unit of the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan to make the purchase.

One of Baker & McKenzie private equity specialists, partner Brendan Wykes, has been advising CCMP on the acquisition, together with Buddle Findlay in New Zealand. Baker & McKenzie have been working closely with CCMP in recent times, including on another New Zealand deal, the acquisition of Independent Liquor (NZ) Limited.

Mr Wykes said: "We are delighted to have assisted CCMP to successfully agree several significant acquisitions in the region, particularly on a deal of such magnitude in the New Zealand market.

"We are also very pleased to extend Baker & McKenzie's association with Ontario Teachers Pension Plan to this region. We are fortunate to be able to draw on our cross jurisdictional skills and private equity expertise to assist and influence outcomes in competitive deal environments across the region.

Baker & McKenzie Nominated Law Firm of the Year Three Consecutive Years By Institutional Investor
For the third consecutive year, Baker & McKenzie was nominated as “Law Firm of the Year” by Institutional Investor’s Total Securitization Awards. The nomination honors the Firm’s U.S. securitization team as “the ‘go-to firm’ for developing legal innovations in various areas of the securitization markets--including complex and cross-border deals.”

The Firm is also recognized for its “thought leadership” and “groundbreaking” structures and its extensive work in intellectual property financings, CDOs, timeshare loan financings, cross-border DPRs, cross-border CMBS, government lease receivables and many other esoteric asset transactions.

The Total Securitization Awards credit the top institutions in the securitization industry. Nominations are based on feedback from leading industry professionals and an advisory board comprised of industry leaders, whose recommendations, along with the results of a survey of rating agencies, bankers and financial firms conducted by the publication, are reviewed by the editorial staff for a final determination of winners. Award winners will be announced in New York on April 26, 2007.

Commenting on the nomination, Richard D. Rudder, co-head of the Global Securitization Practice Group, said: “This is the third year in a row that we have been recognized by Institutional Investor for our securitization capabilities. It is a great honor, and a testament to the fact that members of our team have been pioneers in the development of a variety of important asset classes.

National Indian Gaming Commission Director of Enforcement Joins Sonnenschein in Washington, D.C.
Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP announced today that Alan R. Fedman has joined the firm as of counsel. Fedman, who will reside in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, will work extensively with the multi-disciplinary Indian Law and Tribal Representation Group, which has attorneys in offices throughout the firm.

“Alan will be an integral player in the firm’s growing Indian Law and Tribal Representation Group and we are delighted that he is joining us,” said Elliott Portnoy, Sonnenschein’s chairman. “His experience as supervisor of federal oversight of the $23 billion Indian gaming industry and work with federal enforcement agencies will be an invaluable asset to our clients.”

For the past 15 years, Fedman directed a national staff responsible for regulating 400 Indian gaming operations. In addition to coordinating investigations with federal, state and tribal law enforcement agencies, he was responsible for protecting the gaming operations from criminal influence and coordinating the National Indian Gaming Commission’s regulatory compliance activities. Fedman also previously served on a U.S. Senate special committee on investigations looking into the federal government’s management of Indian-owned natural resources.

“Tribes are experiencing unprecedented economic growth,” Fedman said. “And with that, the need for sophisticated legal representation is also growing. I look forward to serving those needs as part of the highly-respected group at Sonnenschein.”

Fedman earned a J.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He received a an M.A. degree in comparative politics from University of Sussex in England and a B.A. degree in political science from Brown University.

Higgins Re-elected to Second Term
Dave Higgins will be re-elected to serve on Charleston's City Council this May. Dave had no opposition in the primary nor does he have any opposition in the general election. This will be his second four year term as the councilman from Ward 15 which is the South Hills area of Charleston.
