Epstein Becker & Green Expands National Real Estate Practice With Team of Seven Lawyers
Epstein Becker & Green announced today the addition of seven lawyers to its nationally recognized real estate practice, further expanding one of the Firm’s core practice areas.

Adrian Zuckerman, formerly head of the New York real estate practice at Lowenstein Sandler PC, and former deputy general counsel of Helmsley Spear Inc., and six additional lawyers from the Lowenstein firm have joined EBG, where they will continue to focus on complex real estate transactions and litigation. Zuckerman will lead the efforts of the Firm’s New York-based real estate attorneys and become co-chair of the National Real Estate Steering Committee.

Maxine Hicks, managing partner of the Atlanta office and chair of the National Real Estate Steering Committee, said: “We are all very enthusiastic about Adrian and his team joining the real estate group. They will provide even greater breadth and depth to our real estate legal services, both in New York and across the country. Moreover, as co-chair of the steering committee, Adrian will help guide the Firm’s National Real Estate Practice.”

George Sape, EBG’s managing partner, remarked: “The addition of Adrian Zuckerman and his team of real estate lawyers represents a significant expansion of EBG's ability to service its existing clients’ real estate needs, and provides an important boost to the Firm's national initiative to provide that area of expertise as part of its larger business strategy to be the ‘go to’ firm in this area. EBG has embarked upon a multi-year strategy to expand its practice capabilities nationally into five core practice areas, of which real estate is one of the key components. Adrian's proven track-record of both building and managing a significant real estate practice at his former firm will now be part of EBG's growing presence in this field."

In addition to Real Estate, EBG’s five core practice groups also include Business Law, Health Care and Life Sciences, Labor and Employment, and Litigation.

EBG’s National Real Estate Law Practice Group represents clients in transactions involving the acquisition, sale, development, leasing, and financing of commercial and multi-family real estate throughout the United States. Real estate projects include office buildings, retail centers, large-scale residential and mixed-use developments, apartment and condominium complexes, hotels, hospitals, assisted-living facilities, industrial facilities, warehouses, restaurants and timberlands.

The group is recognized nationally for expertise in representing developers and lenders of large, master-planned communities, resorts and golf course developments in projects throughout the United States and abroad. The group also handles the real estate-related litigation, including acquisition and development disputes, title claims, construction issues, landlord/tenant disputes, bankruptcy claims, and eminent domain matters.

“My colleagues and I are very excited to be joining Epstein Becker & Green and be a part of its outstanding real estate practice,” said Zuckerman. “With offices across the country, we are ideally positioned to offer clients matchless legal services.”

In addition to Zuckerman, joining EBG from Lowenstein Sandler as Members of the Firm are Ralph Berman and Linda Bielik. Brian L. Ullman, Andrew R. Tulloch and Steven M. Ziolkowski are joining as Senior Counsel. Samantha E. Friedman is joining as an associate.

Corruption Cases Going International Focus of Miller's NLJ Article
issue of the National Law Journal, Firm Partner Mark Miller discusses some of the issues companies face when corruption cases involve multijurisdictional investigations.

In his article, Miller states that "One of the clearest trends in Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) enforcement today is increased cooperation between the authorities of the United States and those of other nations -- and the consequent rise of multijurisdictional investigations."

Cross-border cooperation and multijurisdictional investigations are likely to increase in the future," Miller writes, "which will in turn create new difficulties for counsel representing companies in FCPA investigations."

Hodgson Russ partner Lawrence R. Bailey receives St. John’s University Heritage Circle Pin awarded posthumously to Cora T. Walker
Lawrence R. Bailey, Jr., a partner in Hodgson Russ's Torts, Insurance & Products Liability Practice Group, recently accepted St. John's University's Heritage Circle Pin Award on behalf of his mother, the late Cora T. Walker. Ms. Walker was one of the first black women to practice law in New York.

The award is presented to alumni who have graduated more than 40 years ago and maintained a close association with the university in a unique and extraordinary way. Ms. Walker established the Cora T. Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. John's and she received several honors from the university, including an honorary PhD in 1992 and a medal of honor in 2000.

Ms. Walker, who passed away in July 2006 at age 84, earned her bachelor's and law degrees from St. John's University and was admitted to the New York bar in 1947. She ran her own private practice until 1976, when she became senior partner in Walker & Bailey, a firm she founded with her son. Walker & Bailey's clients included Ford Motor Company and other large corporations, but Ms. Walker always remained dedicated to the people of her Harlem community, maintaining her offices there and continuing to assist them with legal matters.

Ms. Walker was the first woman president of the Harlem Lawyers Association and helped found the National Bar Association's Corporate Counsel Conference, an annual meeting of African-American attorneys and corporate clients. She retired in 1999.

Mr. Bailey concentrates his practice in products liability, civil litigation, transportation (including Federal Employers' Liability Act and other railroad matters), personal injury defense, and corporate litigation. He is president, executive committee member, and former eastern vice-president of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel as well as a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel.
