Bass Joins Lewis and Roca as an Associate
Lewis and Roca LLP is proud to announce that Joice Bass has joined the firm as an associate. Bass joins the Commercial Litigation practice group. She will assist the firm in expanding its capabilities to serve clients with litigation needs in the areas of general business, employment and intellectual property disputes.

Prior to joining Lewis and Roca, Bass was an associate in the Litigation department at Lionel Sawyer & Collins in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her practice has encompassed eminent domain and civil and business litigation matters. She also has practice experience in the areas of employment litigation and corporate and health care transactions.

Bass has published articles with the Association of Business Trial Lawyers of San Diego titled, “Locating John Doe on the World Wide Web” and “Fraud on the FDA: U.S. Supreme Court Rejects New Application of a Familiar Theory.” She was previously awarded the Wiley M. Manuel Services Award by the State Bar of California for her pro bono services.

Bass received her J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law in 2000, her M.B.A from California State University, Fresno in 1994 and her B.S. from California State University, Fresno, Business Administration and Information Systems in 1991.

James Ho Testifies on Birthright Citizenship Before Texas Representatives
Dallas of counsel James C. Ho testified at a joint committee hearing of the Texas House of Representatives in Austin. The Committee on State Affairs and the Committee on Border and International Affairs convened a joint hearing to consider various immigration and border security issues. Ho was invited by Committee Chairmen David Swinford and Tracy King, at the request of the ACLU of Texas, to testify as a legal expert on the constitutional guarantee of birthright citizenship and House Bill 28, which would deny all state and local government services to the U.S.-born children of undocumented persons in the state of Texas.

Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge Receive Denis McGuire Award at Annual Meeting of the Volunteer Lawyer's Project
"Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge and Associate Stephanie Bruce received the Denis McGuire Award last evening at the John Adams Courthouse in Pemberton Square at the Annual Meeting of the Volunteer Lawyers Project.

The firm was recognized for their work in handling approximately 35 unemployment pro bono cases for the Volunteer Lawyers Project. Stephanie A. Bruce organized and supervised the training of many EAPD associates who assisted with the cases.

The Denis McGuire Award is given annually to honor extraordinary commitment to equal access to justice and to representation of the indigent. Attendees at the award ceremony included Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice, Margaret H. Marshall, American Bar Association President-Elect, William Neukom, and Boston Bar Association President, Jack Cinquegrana.

Stephanie counsels and represents businesses, municipalities and educational institutions in a broad range of employment and labor law issues. Her practice includes litigation of employment-related claims in both state and federal courts, as well as administrative agencies. She has successfully represented clients in a variety of discrimination actions, including race, sex, disability, sexual harassment and age discrimination claims. She also routinely advises employers on personnel matters such as wage and hour compliance, individual terminations, non-competition agreements and employee handbooks.

A graduate of Harvard Law School and Brandeis University, Stephanie is licensed to practice in Massachusetts. She resides in Brighton, Massachusetts.

The Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association (VLP) is a legal aid program providing assistance in civil matters to low-income residents of Greater Boston, primarily through the pro bono services of private attorneys. Arent Fox Expands Construction Practice with Addition of McCarter & English Group

Beebe and Sensenbrenner Named “Leaders in Law” by New Orleans CityBusiness
"New Orleans CityBusiness has named Mark R. Beebe and E. Paige Sensenbrenner to its “Leaders in Law” listing for 2007. King & Spalding Successfully Represents NewPage Corporation in Test Case Of Countervailing Duty Law Before the Department of Commerce
"King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, has successfully represented NewPage Corporation before the U.S. Department of Commerce in a test case involving the application of the countervailing duty law to China. The Department of Commerce determined for the first time that the countervailing duty law applies to China. NewPage and the United Steelworkers responded today to the Department of Commerce’s preliminary determinations in the countervailing duty investigations of coated free sheet paper imports from China, Indonesia and South Korea. In these preliminary determinations, the Department found margins of 20.35 and 10.90 percent for the two Chinese producers, 21.24 percent for the Indonesian producers and margins ranging from 0.04 to 1.76 percent for the South Korean producers.
