Baker & McKenzie LLP Corporate Partner Speaks at ABA Business Law Spring Meeting
Kandace Watson, Corporate & Securities Partner in Baker & McKenzie’s San Diego office, recently spoke at the ABA Section of Business Law Spring Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Watson served as the moderator for a panel on “Securities Law Hot Topics,” which was presented by the Business Law Fellows and Ambassadors and the Committee on Federal Regulation of Securities. Topics covered by the panel included the new executive compensation and corporate governance rules, option back-dating, majority voting, and parallel litigation, among others.

Watson commented, “Shareholders are very interested in understanding the total compensation available to executives.” She continued, “San Diego-based public-reporting companies must be ready to explain how their executive officers’ compensation relates to company performance. Simply stating that $500,000 buys a lot less in Southern California will not suffice”

Watson concentrates her practice in SEC reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, domestic and cross-border capital raising transactions, initial public offerings, collaborations, strategic alliances, private equity fund formation and commercial transactions. Corporate boards and executive management teams seek her advice regarding all aspects of their strategic planning and ongoing operations, from corporate formation and restructuring, through global private and public offerings.

Watson was recognized as one of the “Forty under 40” for 2006 by The Business Journal in Phoenix, Arizona. She is active in the American Bar Association, National Bar Association, and State Bars of California and Arizona. Watson is also a member of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association, where she previously served on the Board. She also regularly presents and writes on corporate issues to industry, trade and legal organizations.

Ami Setright Longstreet Receives One of the Highest Honors for Estate Attorneys
Only the 13th Estate Attorney in Onondaga County Elected to Prestigious National Organization

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Ami Setright Longstreet, an attorney at Mackenzie Hughes LLP, was recently elected to join the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) as a fellow, one of the most prestigious honors for a trust and estate attorney.

Longstreet becomes one of only 13 attorneys in Onondaga County to be elected to the national organization and the fourth attorney to be elected from Mackenzie Hughes. She joins fellow Mackenzie Hughes attorney, Elizabeth A. Hartnett as one of only three female attorneys elected from the region.

“Ami is one of the premier elder law and trust and estate attorneys in the region, and she more than deserves this honor,” said Art Wentlandt, partner and chairman of the Mackenzie Hughes Executive Committee. “She joins Gay Pomeroy, Betsy Hartnett, and John Morrissey as members of this great national organization—proving that our trust and estate practice is one of the most competent, knowledgeable and experienced in the region.”

The ACTEC’s admission standards are rigorous, requiring candidates to: practice for a minimum of ten years in the trust and estate field, receive an “AV” rating by Martindale-Hubbell (“AV” level means being ranked by peers for the highest level of excellence), speak before groups of attorneys on important trust and estate topics, publish in national journals or bar association books, and serve on a variety of boards. Candidates cannot be nominated by attorneys within the same law firm.

Longstreet specializes in helping clients understand estate and trust planning and administration, as well as elder law. With over 20 years of practicing law, her practice includes estate planning and estate administration, long term care and asset protection planning, and planning for individuals with disabilities.

In addition to her membership to the ACTEC, Longstreet was named as one of the preeminent elder law attorneys in Central New York by the 2006 and 2007 edition of the book, “The Best Lawyers in America.” She is a member of the Onondaga, Central New York Women’s Bar, New York State and American Bar Associations and is currently the chair-elect of the Elder Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.

Longstreet is a volunteer speaker for the New York State, Onondaga County and Central New York Women’s Bar Associations, as well as the American Lung Association and Arc of Onondaga County. She is also a board member on the Estate Planning Council of Central New York, the Mental Health Association of Onondaga County and serves as the vice chair of the Women’s Fund of Central New York.

About the ACTEC
The ACTEC is an organization of more than 2,500 trusts and estates lawyers and law professors from the United States and Canada who have been affirmed by their peers as having made outstanding contributions to the practice of trust and estate law. The areas of expertise and experience represented in the ACTEC include: estate planning, probate and trust and estate administration, protective intervention and guardianship administration, transfer tax laws, income tax laws that affect individuals and trusts, elder law, charitable planning, employee benefit planning, and fiduciary litigation.
