Roberta Kaplan Profiled as an "Outstanding Woman" in Financial Services Law 360
Litigation partner Roberta Kaplan is featured as an "Outstanding Woman" in Financial Services Law 360 (http://financialservices.law360.com). The article discusses Robbie's successes as a litigator involved in complex, high-profile matters like AIG. Robbie is quoted as explaining that, "I actually love it. I find these kinds of cases fascinating. You need to understand how one set of facts interplays with others, and how a regulatory action or a criminal case will impact a civil case. You have to keep all the balls in the air at the same time." In the piece, Robbie discusses the role of role models during the course of her career, but notes that, "No one can pick up another person's style and try it on off the rack like a ready-to-wear suit. Instead, the suit has to be tailored so that it fits you. I think I've 'borrowed' articles of clothing from all of the lawyers who have taught me, while at the same time adopting them to my own style . . . ." The author of the article observes that this style seems to be working for Robbie's clients -- "I try to talk to a judge and a jury using common sense in order to cut through to the core issues in the case. It helps when your position makes more sense than the position of the other side. And it also doesn't hurt when you have the equities on your side and when your client has acted in good faith.
