K&L Gates San Francisco Further Expands Intellectual Property Presence with Addition of Former Taiwan Semiconductor IP Director
Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis LLP (K&L Gates) welcomes Chris Chou to its intellectual property practice. Chou comes to the firm from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Ltd. (TSMC).

Chris' addition further develops K&L Gates San Francisco’s focus on providing and facilitating services between Chinese and U.S. markets.

Chou focuses his practice on patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret counseling. His experience includes preparation of patent applications, patent portfolio management, patent prosecution, and patent infringement/validity analysis in the areas of electronics, microprocessor, computer software, computer system/architecture and semiconductor devices/fabrication technologies.

“Chris’ extensive connection with leading Asian businesses throughout the electronic and computer industry will enhance K&L Gates’ exposure in a region that is seeing a demand for deep intellectual property litigation experience,” said Michael J. Bettinger, who leads the firm’s patent and trade secret practice in San Francisco.

Kari Glover, K&L Gates’ Global Integration Partner, said: “Chris joins the firm at a time of significant change in the intellectual property landscape, from international intellectual property challenges in a global economy to an emerging trend of foreign-based companies filing patent suits on U.S. soil. His experience practicing IP law in both China and the United States well-positions him to counsel clients in this new era.

Eni is making this investment - which is the third largest foreign acquisition in Russia's oil & gas sector to date - together with minority partner Enel S.p.A. of Italy. Russia's Gazprom also has rights of significant participation in the venture, under a related set of agreements reached with Eni in the context of the two companies' Strategic Partnership Agreement signed last November.

The LeBoeuf Lamb team advising Eni on the deal was led by partners Jon Hines (Moscow) and Lynn McCaw (London).
