Schnader Attorneys Named ‘New Jersey Super Lawyers’
Three Schnader attorneys have been named ‘New Jersey Super Lawyers’ for 2007 by the publishers of Law & Politics for outstanding achievement in their respective practice areas: John M. Armstrong (Environmental/Land Use); Jeanne Schubert Barnum (Construction Litigation); Michael J. Wietrzychowski (Labor & Employment). The full listing of named attorneys will be included as a special supplement in the April 2007 issue of New Jersey Monthly.

“It is an honor to have our firm and these individuals recognized for their exceptional talent and outstanding professional achievements,” said Chairman Ralph Wellington. “It is especially exciting that Mr. Armstrong has been honored in this way for three years in a row, and that Ms. Schubert Barnum and Mr. Wietrzychowski have been honored in this way for two years in a row. On behalf of the entire firm, I’d like to congratulate each of them for this notable accomplishment.”

It is a notable achievement to be named to the list – only 5 percent of the lawyers in each state or region are recognized as ‘Super Lawyers’ annually. The ‘Super Lawyers’ supplement is a publication of Law & Politics. Each year, the editors conduct extensive polling, rigorous research and an exhaustive review of potential nominees in order to identify those lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The result is a comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys, representing a wide range of practice areas, firm sizes and geographic locations.

Friedman Says Difficult to Predict Court of Appeals's Decision on Gay Marriage
Dan Friedman, Special Counsel in the Litigation Department and author of The Maryland Constitution: A Reference Guide, was quoted in this article about the anticipated Maryland Court of Appeals ruling that could overturn a state law banning same-sex marriage.

Nineteen plaintiffs asked the court to review a lower court's decision that struck down a 1973 state law allowing marriage of opposite-sex couples only. The decision in the case, known as Conaway v. Deane, could be reached any day now.

“I always caution folks about reading too much into the questioning of the bench,” Mr. Friedman said in reference to the uncertainty of how the court will rule. “So I would caution reading too much into the lack of questions.”

Mr. Friedman, who teaches constitutional law at the University of Maryland School of Law, was one of more than 50 local law professors and faculty members who filed a brief with the high court reviewing previous decisions that support overturning Maryland's ban on same-sex marriage. The brief states that the ban is unconstitutional and presents "an unjustified sex-based classification that rests on impermissible gender stereotypes and enforces state-mandated gender roles.

Salans Paris wins 5 awards at the "Trophées du Droit et du Contentieux"
Salans received 5 awards at the ceremony "Trophées du Droit et du Contentieux": the Golden Trophy "Healthcare and Pharmaceutical" and 4 Silver Trophies.

Salans' Healthcare Group (Pascale Poupelin, Mélanie Thill-Tayara and François Vignaud) was honoured as the best "Healthcare and Pharmaceutical" team of the year before an audience of over 700 legal professionals (legal counsel and law firms).

This trophy was granted by a jury composed of the Cercle Montesquieu, Pfizer, MSD-Chibret, GlaxoSmithKline, Bristol Myers Squibb laboratories and GE Healthcare.

The "Trophées du Droit et du Contentieux" are awarded every two years by the magazine Décideurs Stratégie and reward innovations, success and quality of advice, as well as litigation expertise of leading law firms and in-house legal and tax departments.
