T&K Strengthens Tax Practice
The global law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP is pleased to announce Tyree C. Collier has joined the Firm as a Partner in the Dallas office.

Mr. Collier focuses his practice on the representation of nonprofit organizations, including large and small private foundations, hospitals and health systems, university-affiliated organizations, private schools, fundraising organizations, other types of public charities, and non-charitable tax exempt organizations.

"Tyree's skill, knowledge, and experience with nonprofit organizations will give our Firm an even stronger presence in this field, and we are excited for him to join our Thompson & Knight team," says David M. Rosenberg, Tax Practice Group Leader who also specializes in representation of nonprofit organizations.

Mr. Collier received a J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law, with honors, in 1994 and a B.B.A., cum laude, from Baylor University in 1988. He is also a Certified Public Accountant in Texas.

Ropes & Gray maintains top ranking in fund formation
For the third consecutive year, Ropes & Gray is the top-ranked U.S. law firm in private equity fund formation. The firm earned the top ranking in Private Equity Analyst's 2006 list of the "most active law firms by number of funds," advising general partners and limited partners in the formation of 504 funds.

The same survey ranked Ropes & Gray 11th for private equity and venture capital deals negotiated and closed in 2006. One such deal was the firm's representation of Bain Capital and the Blackstone Group in their $6.2 billion acquisition of Michaels Stores in October 2006.

Ropes & Gray regularly scores at or near the top of the Private Equity Analyst rankings. The firm's strength in private equity was affirmed by the recent selection of David Chapin as a 2007 "Dealmaker of the Year" by The American Lawyer.

Kelley joins DLA Piper’s Intellectual Property practice in East Palo Alto
DLA Piper US LLP has announced that Christopher Kelley has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group in its East Palo Alto office. He comes to DLA Piper from Howrey LLP.

Kelley is a patent litigator who has managed significant patent cases across the country and at the Federal Circuit. He also handles patent matters before the International Trade Commission. He has a broad range of technical experience, including in the semiconductor, cell phone, wireless networking, network switching, microprocessor architectures, system prototyping, Internet software and encryption arts.

“With Chris’s vast knowledge and technical experience, he will add even more depth to our patent litigation practice,” said Andrew Valentine, co-chair of DLA Piper’s Patent Litigation practice group. “He is an outstanding attorney who will also provide excellent new business opportunities both throughout the U.S. and internationally.”

“Chris is an experienced patent litigator with a well-deserved national reputation for excellence,” added John C. Dougherty, co-chair of the firm’s Patent Litigation practice group. “We are delighted to have him join our team. He will be a valuable asset to the practice.”

Kelley also counsels clients regarding issues surrounding patent portfolios, patent claim coverage, patent acquisition/licensing decisions and potential infringement liability and related defenses.

Previously, Kelley worked as an engineer at Stanford Telecom and served as a staff attorney for both The Proposition 103 Enforcement Project and the Environmental Defense Center, two public interest organizations. Prior to that, he worked as a staff engineer for Electromagnetic Systems Division.

He received a J.D. from the University of California-Los Angeles and a B.S.E.E. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Personal Services Attorney Richard Siriani Joins Miller Canfield
The law firm of Miller Canfield announces that Richard J. Siriani has joined the firm as senior counsel in the Troy office. He will focus his practice on probate and trust administration and litigation, as well as estate planning.

He is council member of the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan, and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and Oakland County Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in Michigan, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Tax Court.

Siriani received his J.D. from the Detroit College of Law, and his B.S. from Wayne State University, majoring in Political Science.

He resides in Farmington Hills, Mich.

Manatt’s Daniel T. Gryczman Appointed Co-Chair Of Los Angeles Area Chamber Of Commerce Land Use Committee
Daniel T. Gryczman, an attorney in Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP's Real Estate and Land Use practice group, has been appointed co-chair of the Land Use, Construction and Housing Committee of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Land Use, Construction and Housing Committee works with lawmakers and officials to promote more livable and economically sustainable communities, an improved development and permitting process, more affordable housing and a balance between environmental and growth concerns.

"Daniel's broad experience in land use and affordable housing issues, coupled with his commitment to the community, makes him an outstanding choice to help lead the Land Use Committee," said Lisa Specht, Chair of Manatt's Los Angeles Land Use Group. "The Chamber of Commerce, and all those affected by land use policy in the region, will be well served by Daniel's talent and vision."

A specialist in land use, infrastructure, redevelopment and housing law, Mr. Gryczman is former chairperson and commissioner of the City of Los Angeles Rent Adjustment Commission.

Mr. Gryczman has held numerous leadership positions in community organizations, including serving as the vice president of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats, chairing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) New Leadership Division and serving as a member of AIPAC's national Executive Committee, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles/United Jewish Fund.

Prior to joining Manatt, Mr. Gryczman was a judicial clerk to the Honorable Ferdinand F. Fernandez of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. During his academic career, Mr. Gryczman worked in media relations in the Office of the Prime Minister of the State of Israel and served as the Student Member of the Board of Education of the City of Los Angeles.

Mr. Gryczman holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he served as senior production editor for the NYU Annual Survey of American Law, and a B.A., cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he received the Chancellor Charles E. Young Service Award. He also attended Charles University Faculty of Law in Prague, Czech Republic, and Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, and University of Haifa, Israel.

Loeb & Loeb Enhances Intellectual Property Practice with Addition of Patent Litigator Laura Wytsma
Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that Laura A. Wytsma, a patent litigator, is joining the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group. She joins the Los Angeles office of Loeb & Loeb as a partner. She was previously a partner with Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP.

Wytsma’s practice focuses on intellectual property proceedings in federal court, with an emphasis on patent litigation. In addition to intellectual property matters, Wytsma’s broad litigation experience includes representations involving claims for antitrust violations and unfair competition; false advertising and Lanham Act violations; defamation and violation of privacy and publicity rights; breach of contract; and other complex commercial disputes. She has significant trial and appellate experience in federal proceedings. In addition to her litigation practice, Wytsma provides clients with pre-litigation counseling on intellectual property issues.

John Frankenheimer, the Co-Chair of Loeb & Loeb in Los Angeles, said, “Laura’s extensive experience in patent litigation is a major asset to our national IP practice and underscores our commitment to investing in building out our resources in the technology sector as well as the biotech, nanotech and pharmaceutical industries.”

Wytsma is the latest in a series of additions in 2007 that have expanded Loeb’s intellectual property practice, and its patent litigation practice in particular.

Wytsma provides pro bono legal services on a regular basis and has represented refugees seeking asylum from Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Iran, Russia and Syria, as well as victims of domestic violence, in immigration proceedings, circuit courts and the United States Supreme Court. Her pro bono accomplishments have been recognized repeatedly by her peers and the community with the following awards.

* Inaugural Angel Award from California Lawyer magazine (2006)
* Sonnenschein Pro Bono Leadership Award and Rothschild Award (2005)
* Pro Bono Advocate of the Year from Public Counsel’s Immigrants’ Rights Project (2004)

Wytsma was a member of the Litigation Section Executive Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association from 2001-2006, and served as the Programs Chair from 2004-2006.

Wytsma began her legal career in the Attorney General’s Honors Program at the United States Department of Justice. She received her J.D., with distinction, from George Mason University School of Law (1996) and her B.S. in Public Administration, with high distinction, from George Mason University (1993).

Whealdon-Haught Joins Lewis and Roca as an Associate
