Former Second in Command to New York Attorney General Joins Paul, Weiss as a Litigation Partner
Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP announced today that Michele Hirshman will join Paul, Weiss as a partner in the firm’s litigation department, where she will focus her practice on internal investigations and white collar defense matters. Ms. Hirshman will be resident in the firm’s New York office.

Ms. Hirshman comes to Paul, Weiss from the Office of the Attorney General of New York where she served as First Deputy Attorney General under then Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Ms. Hirshman served for eleven years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York. In the course of her tenure, she served as Chief of the Public Corruption Unit, where she led major investigations and prosecutions of government fraud and political and police corruption.

Ms. Hirshman received her J.D. in 1983 from Yale Law School where she was articles editor of the Yale Law Journal. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers College in 1980, summa cum laude. Upon completing law school, Ms. Hirshman clerked from 1983-1985 for the Honorable Pierre N. Leval, then on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Judge Leval now sits on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Cozen O’Connor Attorney Sponsors Panel on Independent Film Distribution at 2007 Philadelphia Film Festival
Cozen O’Connor recently sponsored a panel discussion entitled, “My Film is Done…Now What: The Down and Dirty of Film Distribution,” Held in conjunction with the Philadelphia Film Festival, the panel was organized by the Greater Philadelphia Film Office and the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Panel members included moderator Justin Wineburgh, a member in Cozen O’Connor’s Philadelphia office, Richard Wolfe of TLA Releasing, Debra Fisher of Cinetics Media, Inc., and filmmakers Don Argott and Sheena Joyce (Rock School) and Nick Briscoe of (Blur). Panelists discussed many of the practical and legal issues involved in the marketing, sale, delivery and distribution of independent films.

Cozen O’Connor Attorney Justin B. Wineburgh Moderates Discussion on Independent Film Distribution
Cozen O’Connor member Justin B. Wineburgh recently moderated a panel discussion entitled “I Am Done My Film…Now What: The Down and Dirty of Film Distribution.” Sponsored by the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, in partnership with the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, the panel took place during the Philadelphia Film Festival and focused on the practical and legal issues involved in the marketing, sale, delivery and distribution of independent films. Panel members included directors and producers, film and content acquisition executives, and film sales agents.

Resident in the Philadelphia office, Wineburgh counsels clients in the entertainment industry in the U.S. and abroad. He represents clients in the film, television, music, new media and sports industries in complex tort, commercial, defamation, privacy, corporate, employment and intellectual property matters. Wineburgh has represented talent, writers, distributors, retailers, managers, agents, producers, music engineers, production companies and artists in a variety of matters, including litigation, contract negotiations, transactional matters and pre-litigation counseling, and has also served as production counsel for a number of independent films.

Wineburgh is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida, and before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, Supreme Court of Florida, Supreme Court of New Jersey and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey. He has also been specially admitted to handle cases in New York, California, Illinois, Virginia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Michigan and the District of Columbia, as well as before the California Labor Commission.

Wineburgh is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Florida bar associations, young lawyers' division of the Philadelphia Bar Association, sports and entertainment law section of The Florida Bar, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Philadelphia VIP and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. He is active in numerous civic organizations, serves as a mentor to law students and newly admitted attorneys, and regularly handles pro bono matters for a variety of organizations.

In 2006, Wineburgh was selected as a Pennsylvania “Lawyer on the Fast Track” by American Lawyer Media and was also selected as a Widener University School of Law Alumni Spotlight Honoree, an award given to four alumni of the law school each year.

Wineburgh earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Lafayette College (B.A., 1994) and his law degree from Widener University School of Law (J.D., 1997), where he was editor/administrative board member of the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law, a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and a member of Phi Delta Phi, Harrington Inn, Honor Chapter. He served as a judicial intern to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and as a law clerk for the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania.

Senior Public Affairs Adviser Holly Fechner Joins Covington
Covington & Burling LLP announced today that Holly Fechner has joined the firm as Of Counsel. Ms. Fechner will be resident in the firm’s Washington office.

Ms. Fechner most recently served as Policy Director for Senator Edward M. Kennedy. She also served as Chief Labor & Pensions Counsel to the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee. Ms. Fechner was responsible for developing policy initiatives on a broad range of domestic and international issues including the economy, retirement security, health care, education, labor, and globalization. She served as chief negotiator on legislation to reform pensions, increase the federal minimum wage, extend unemployment insurance benefits, and prevent genetic discrimination.

“We are very pleased to welcome Holly to Covington,” said Stuart Stock, chair of the firm’s management committee. “Her long experience on Capitol Hill and deep knowledge of the legislative process will make her an important and valuable addition to our Government Affairs practice."

Landmark Financing by SABIC Wins 'Middle East Petrochemicals Deal of the Year 2006'
Baker & McKenzie has announced that the financing of Saudi Arabia's largest project financing to date has been named the 'Middle East Petrochemicals Deal of the Year 2006' by Project Finance magazine. Baker & McKenzie acted for the sponsor, Saudi Basic Industry Corporation (SABIC) and the project company Yanbu National Petrochemical Company (Yansab), in connection with the transaction, which closed on 18 June 2006.

The transaction involved the US$3.5 billion financing for the Yansab project comprising a US$847 million Islamic tranche, an U$1,067 million PIF facility, two ECA supported facilities (totalling US$700 million), involving ECGD and SACE, and commercial term loan and revolving credit facilities totalling US$886 million.

The transaction featured the biggest single bank project debt underwriting in the MENA region, the largest Islamic tranche in any multi-sourced financing and the first successful close of a project IPO prior to debt financing.

The Baker & McKenzie team who advised SABIC and Yansab was led by Bahrain partner Ian Siddell and inclu+ded Julie Alexander, Karim Nassar (Riyadh), Rhonda Laws (Bahrain), Atif Hanif (London) and Fatima Ghaith (Bahrain).

This recognition follows on from Baker & McKenzie's involvement with the debt financing of Panda Ethanol Inc's 100 million gallon per year ethanol facility, which was named by Project Finance as the 'North American Ethanol Deal of the Year'.

McDonald Appointed to Board of Corporate Council on Africa
Washington, D.C., partner Tom McDonald, who was the U.S. Ambassador to Zimbabwe from 1997-2001, has been appointed to the Board of the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA). The Board also includes senior officials from ExxonMobil, Chevron, Marathon Oil, Boeing, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson Corp., and Mars, Inc.

CCA is a trade association which is at the forefront of strengthening and facilitating the commercial relationship between the United States and the African continent. CCA works closely with governments, multilateral groups and business to improve the African continent's trade and investment climate, and to raise the profile of Africa in the U.S. business community.

Three Defense Verdicts for Automobile Warranty Division
Sutter, O’Connell & Farchione is pleased to congratulate several of its Associates in the Products Liability Practice Group, Lemon Law/Automobile Warranty Division, for obtaining three defense verdicts in 2007, all before the month of April. Marco Bocciarelli and Adam Martin successfully tried the case of Leann Kapp v. DaimlerChrysler Corporation in February and obtained a defense verdict on behalf of DaimlerChrysler Company, LLC in Licking County, Ohio. The following week, Stuart Baker and John Leach obtained the same great result in Greene County, Ohio in the case of Tiesha Pollard v. DaimlerChrysler Corporation. Most recently, Marc Amos and John Leach obtained a defense verdict in the case of Brian Nelson v. DaimlerChrysler Corporation in Allen County, Ohio.
